Turn in your old iPhone and iPad for Walmart credit

Retail giant Walmart is putting its own spin on the growing trend toward trade-ins. Ahead of the expected September 10 unveiling of Apple's next smartphone, the retailer is offering credit toward in-store purchases.

The 'Gadgets to Gift Cards' program lets you trade your iPhone or iPad in for a quick gift card for Walmart products either in-store or online. However, unlike strictly cash for your iPhone, the retailer is essentially turning your gadgets into grocery money by offering you a line of credit, bringing some reservations to the offer...

Syfy brings its top TV shows to iOS with Syfy Now

Television channel Syfy announced today that it is relaunching its Syfy for iPhone app as 'Syfy Now' and its iPad app as 'Syfy Sync,' in an effort to compartmentalize their respective features. Sync, for example, will now be a dedicated second-screen title.

But as for Syfy Now, it's been completely redesigned with more features like iCloud sync, iPad compatibility, and access to more content. Users can now watch full episodes of their favorite Syfy shows and can find new episodes in the app a day after they air...

Revered analyst calls for iPhone 5S with gold colorway,128GB option

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has sent out a note to investors this evening, updating his previous predictions for Apple's next smartphone. Kuo's track record with Apple product predictions is good, so what he says carries a fair amount of weight.

In the note, Kuo says he is expecting the iPhone 5S to feature the new A7 chip, 1GB of RAM, and a sapphire-covered Home button with a built-in fingerprint sensor—pretty standard stuff. But he also expects a gold colorway and a 128GB storage option...

China’s Meizu to unleash its next-gen iPhone clone on September 2

China’s handset maker Meizu has made a name for itself by mimicking Apple aesthetics with its inexpensive yet nicely spec'd MX handsets.

With local brands such as Huawei, ZTE and Xiaomi halving Apple's market share in the important 1.33 billion people market, Meizu is hoping to steal spotlight from Apple's upcoming September 10 iPhone event by scheduling a major media event of its own on September 2.

The company is apparently gearing up to introduce the third-generation MX handset, the MX3. If a series of leaked press shots and the 'Think Big' tagline are anything to go by, the phablet will be a crossover between HTC's One V and Apple's iPhone. And as per usual, Meizu shouldn't disappoint in the hardware and design departments...

Popular todo list app Finish receives big 2.0 update

Back in January of this year, we reviewed Finish, a timeframe-focused todo list app that promised to help users "overcome the clutches of procrastination." We liked it for its UI design and unique features, and it even went on to win an Apple Design Award.

Well today, the app gets even better with a major 2.0 update. The new version of Finish includes design improvements and a number of new features such as task-by-task time setting, optional 'Bother Me' reminders, and real-life rewards for completing tasks...

Best Buy offering $200 iPhone trade-in through Sunday

The United States consumer electronics retailer Best Buy has launched another noteworthy iPhone trade-in promotion (all over again) which offers a minimum $200 credit in exchange for your iPhone 4S in working condition. Own an iPhone 4 instead? No problem, Best Buy will treat you to a $100 credit.

In both instances your Best Buy Gift Card credit is only good toward the purchase of an iPhone 5 with a two-year carrier agreement with Verizon Wireless, AT&T or Sprint. Now you can get rid off your iPhone 4/4S and get a brand spanking new entry-level 16GB iPhone 5 for zero bucks, normally a $199 value with a two-year contract...

China Mobile Chairman says iPhone talks with Apple are progressing

China Mobile has more than an astounding 740 million subscribers, making it the world's largest wireless carrier. It is also a rare major carrier without Apple's iconic smartphone. Part of it is politics - Chinese carriers reluctantly agree to revenue-sharing schemes with foreign companies.

China is also moving away from high phone subsidies that impact short-term profitability, but there surely must be some plain stubbornness as both Apple and China Mobile reportedly repeatedly bring onerous terms to the negotiating table.

Although we heard multiple times in the past that the two sides were about to reach some sort of resolution, the iPhone distribution deal never came to be. Apple's boss Tim Cook recently met with China Mobile Chairman Xi Guohua and now Reuters reports that a China Mobile tie-up is closer than ever...

There’s more to Apple’s rumored budget iPhone than just the price

Are you ready for a break from the usual headlines concerning Apple's likely introduction of a low-cost iPhone? The perception of low-cost smartphones as some technological game of limbo between the iPhone maker and Google's Android is all wrong, says one analyst. Those thinking Apple needs to join the race to the bottom misunderstand that hardware price is not the overriding factor for every consumer shopping for a handset...

iDoorCam shows you who’s at your door, even when you’re not home

The introduction of smartphones and tablets has really helped bring 'connected home' technology mainstream. Actions that used to require a large, expensive in-home setup, can now be done with an iPhone, an app, and a relatively cheap accessory.

And the new iDoorCam is the perfect example of this. The camera-equipped, smart doorbell connects to your home Wi-Fi network to stream video of your visitors to all of your connected iOS gadgets, regardless of whether you're at home or not...

Plants vs. Zombies 2 now available for download

At this point, it seems like we've been waiting on 'Plants vs. Zombies 2' for forever now. First previewed back in March of this year, the sequel to PopCap's popular tower defense game was supposed to launch in July, but was delayed until 'late summer.'

Then a few weeks ago, the title was soft-launched in two countries: Australia and New Zealand, with no explanation when we would see the title stateside. But never fear, the wait is over. 'Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time' just hit App Stores worldwide...

Resellers say the time is ripe to unload your old iPhone

We've long anticipated Apple unveiling a new iPhone this fall, we just weren't sure exactly when it would do it. Then over the weekend, a report surfaced claiming the company was planning an event for September 10, and it's since been all but confirmed.

For the folks looking to sell their old models, that gives you a little less than a month to do so before the next iPhone is introduced. By then, your current-model iPhone will be worth a lot less than it is now—in fact, its value is already swiftly depreciating...
