New report details iPhone 5S Home button, suggests delay in iOS 7 for iPad

As Apple's September 10th event—where it's expected to unveil its new iPhone(s)—draws near, we're beginning to learn new details about the handset. For instance, the latest rumblings seem certain that it'll feature a new gold color option.

And today we learn a few more particulars from the often-accurate Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac. Gurman has published a sweeping report, detailing everything from what the iPhone 5S Home button is going to look like, to the status of iOS 7...

WSJ: two new iPhones due in early-September

According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple has apparently asked Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. - better known in the Western world under its Foxconn moniker - to start shipping new iPhones early next month. It's going to be a crowded September: next month is IFA 2013 so expect gadget makers to flock to Berlin, Germany to talk new products.

And earlier in the morning, Bloomberg reminded us that Sony will be releasing a new Erisccon handset in September. Plus, we know from before that Samsung is gearing up to unveil a third-generation Note phablet and a rumored Galaxy Gear smarwatch at its own media event on September 4...

AllThingsD confirms gold iPhone coming

Folks still holding out hope that the gold iPhone rumors aren't true may want to brace themselves, the speculation has just been confirmed by the Wall Street Journal-owned blog AllThingsD. And given the site's near perfect (perfect?) track record with predicting future Apple plans, and corroborating evidence, we'd say Apple is indeed going for the gold...

Survey: Apple’s iPhone grabs 3 times as many Samsung owners

A new survey of iPhone and Samsung buyers includes both confirmation of what we suspected, as well as a few surprises. Topping the list: 20 percent of new iPhone owners previously used an Android smartphone, or one out of each five iPhone owners.

The South Korean Android handset wasn't capable of doing much damage to Apple, however - just seven percent of new Samsung owners switched from the iPhone. Overall, Apple does well at retaining iPhone owners, its largest group of buyers having owned a previous version of the smartphone.

For Samsung, its strength is in attracting other Android handset owners and first-time smartphone buyers, according to the survey released Monday...

Poll: are you going to buy your iPhone 5S in gold/champagne?

Everyone is complaining about Apple's rumored iPhone 5S allegedly being offered in gold / champagne color, but something tells me it's going to be hugely popular with guys who like to show off and the types who were offended by Samsung's ads and now want to let the world know they have a new iPhone.

But what about the others? Can you stomach the very though of the gold/champagne iPhone 5S?

Undecided people are probably keeping their fingers crossed that leaked images don't look nearly as good as the real thing. Can you picture a gold iPhone variant at all in your mind? More importantly, if the iPhone 5S will be indeed offered in several color choices, will you be buying the gold/champagne model?

It looks like there’s really a golden iPhone on the way

The next iPhone is definitely going to come in gold, according to a new report from TechCrunch this evening. The news follows several weeks of reports and purported part leaks suggesting that the iPhone 5S will be offered in the new color.

It's believed that Apple is adding the third color option, in addition to black and white, to its flagship handset line in an effort to differentiate the device from its predecessors. And don't worry, it's said to be more of a 'champagne,' than a gold...

Parrot unveils new AR.Drone 2.0 Power Edition

In January of last year, Parrot took the wraps off of its AR.Drone 2.0 at the Consumer Electronics Show. And needless to say, the easy-to-fly iPhone-controlled quadricopter, with its built-in 720p camera, wowed the crowds.

Unfortunately, though, the AR.Drone 2.0 suffered from a problem similar to its predecessor—battery life. The RC vehicle could only fly for about 15 mins on a single charge. But that's about change with the new Power Edition...

Old school gaming meets iPhone case

When I think of an iPhone case, I primarily worry about protection, looks, construction material, and practicality. Typically, these would be the standards by which I grade a case for review, after using them for about a week's time. Very rarely, if ever, do I worry about the level of fun my iPhone case can produce.

Call me a cynic, maybe a realist, but iPhone cases and fun do not typically mix. Sure, there are really cool and awesome cases out there that may invoke some sort of childish excitement by the user. However,  after running across the Retro Game Case lineup by Pure Gear, having fun may just be the new factor for favorite cases...

Is this Apple’s gold-colored iPhone 5S rear shell?

We first heard whispers of the iPhone 5S possibly including a bunch of color choices back in January. In the weeks and months leading up to Apple's upcoming September 10 announcement, the colorized iPhone 5S rumors intensified. Yesterday, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo analyst wrote in a note to clients that he has reasons to believe one of the several color choices includes a brand new golden colorway.

A French blog has posted interesting looking pictures which the website claims depict a gold-colored iPhone 5S casing. I've included the image and a few additional details after the break...

Leaked manual details Sony’s upcoming iPhone lens accessories

A Sony-focused blog called SonyAlphaRumors on Monday published a few interesting tidbits regarding upcoming Camera Live lens attachments for smartphones that incorporate a standalone sensor with Carl Zeiss optics and built-in processing chips, normally seen on $500 point-and-shoot cameras. Details were scarce initially, but now we're offered additional glimpses into the the entry-level DSC-QX10 and the high-end DSC-QX100.

Thanks to a leaked manual, we know the gadgets will include advanced features such as focus ring control and expansive storage via memory cards. Go past the fold for the full reveal...

128GB iPhone apparently surfaces in German retailer’s system

It was yesterday that the reliable KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo called for a new iPhone model sporting a whopping 128 gigabytes of built-in storage - twice as much as today's high-end 64GB iPhone 5 - and already a brand new SKU (Stock-Keeping Unit) reference has been spotted in a German retailer's sales system.

Though we can't vouch for the genuinity of the included screenshot, it looks legit seemingly depicting the retail system of Media Markt, a German chain of stores selling consumer electronics with numerous branches throughout Europe and Asia...

Flurry: moms use iPads, singles use iPhones

Some interesting research is out, indicating that some iOS users tend toward the iPhone, while others are more likely tapping away at the iPad. While mobile advertising analytics firm Flurry gathered the data to help companies better target their apps and ads, the findings are intriguing for us all.

Of the various 'personas' tracked, so-called 'Value Shoppers' (those bargain-hunting souls) are most strongly attached to their iPhones, while 'Pet Owners' prefer the iPad. Overall, 72 percent of iOS owners tend to use the iPhone most, while the iPad garners 28 percent of the mobile iDevice users...
