Chrome for iOS updated with improved search, data savings feature, and more

Good news Chrome users! Google has posted an update for the iOS version of the popular browser this afternoon, bringing the app to version 29 and in line with its Desktop and Android counterparts.

Among the usual performance improvements are 3 new features: a faster back button for returning to search results, a new Bandwidth Management Settings option, and pronoun support in voice search...

Radio Shack also offering iPhone 5c pre-orders, discounts on various legacy models

In addition to Verizon, Sprint, Walmart and other retailers, it appears that Radio Shack will also be offering iPhone 5c pre-orders tomorrow. The company will be offering every available color: red, blue, pink, green and yellow, on the top 3 carriers.

Additionally, the electronics dealer is also offering discounts on a wide variety of iPhone 5, 4s and 4 handsets—you can get an iPhone 5 on Sprint for $149 on contract. You can also trade-in your old iPhone for up $250, depending on various factors...

Poll: will you get a new iPhone?

Now that Apple has told us everything there's to know about its new iPhone 5c for the colorful and the flagship fingerprint-scanning iPhone 5s that runs Apple's advanced, in-house designed, two times faster 64-bit A7 chip with M7 motion coprocessor, would-be shoppers will have a chance to pre-order the former starting tomorrow.

Even though the company won't provide pre-orders for the top-line iPhone 5s, both handsets are scheduled to simultaneously land on store shelves next Friday, September 20. Folks who frequent this blog by now have learned additional tidbits about the handsets in order to make an informed purchasing decision.

With that in mind, we've decided to put together a little non-scientific poll asking a simple question: which new iPhone are you planning on buying come September 20, if any...

How secret China flights bring iPhones to Apple Stores

Apple's fine-tuned supply chain is legendary, but we are just now getting a glimpse into its inner workings. As supply side wonk turned CEO Tim Cook Tuesday unveiled a new line of iPhones, an intriguing report revealed the coordination required to get the handsets to your local Apple store.

Using mammoth chartered jets and schedules so elaborate they almost make D-Day seem like a Girl Scouts delivery route, iDevices designed in California and built in China arrive in the US without a second to spare. A former FedEx executive likens it all to a Hollywood movie premiere...

Stronger battery inside iPhone 5s/5c detailed

Apple's marketing honcho Phil Schiller noted during Tuesday's iPhone 5s/5c keynote that both new iPhones feature a slightly bigger battery though he stopped short of giving us specifics. Now, Apple's specs page would have us believe that both new iPhones feature essentially the same battery, though that's not true.

Per Apple's stats, both devices provide ten hours of talk time on 3G, 250 hours standby time, 8 hours of Internet use on 3G (10 hours on LTE or Wi-Fi), 10 hours of video playback and 40 hours of audio playback.

What Apple didn't tell us is how it's managed to boost the iPhone 5s battery capacity by as much as ten percent. The iPhone 5c battery life gains are more modest at a respectable five percent compared to the iPhone 5...

Jumbo-sized ‘iPhad’ would be huge in China, but…

In astronomy, it is known as the 'Goldilocks Principle,' where Earth is located not too close to the Sun but not too far away. The 'just right' thinking needs to be applied to calls for a larger-screen iPhone, according to one analyst. While an iPhone with a larger screen is needed to increase demand in China, anything larger than a five-inch display risks creating an 'iPhad' that's part iPhone and part iPad...

Walmart to sell new iPhones with a discount, take iPhone 5c pre-orders tomorrow

Just as Apple's U.S. carrier partners Verizon and Sprint announced iPhone 5c pre-orders beginning Friday at 12:01am Pacific, the U.S. retail chain Walmart said Thursday it too will start taking pre-orders for the device tomorrow.

The retailer typically carries iPhones at prices lower than other stores and new iPhones are no different: an iPhone 5s with sixteen gigabytes of storage will cost you $189 after a two-year contract, which is $10 cheaper from standard $199 downpayment...

Apple stock takes a hit after Wall Street hammers iPhone 5c ‘iPhlop’

Wall Street is a curious bunch. Apple shares dropped by five percent Wednesday morning after analysts piled on with disappointment over the iPhone 5c.

Expecting an inexpensive smartphone costing $400 without a contract, Apple instead unveiled a device priced at $549 unsubsidized.

The departure from the expected script caused some industry observers to downgrade Apple's shares, citing worries the iPhone maker may have shot itself in the foot when it comes to inexpensive Android alternatives selling in places like China...

Reeder 2 is out with refreshed UI, iPad support and more

It's been a rough couple of months for Reeder, the app largely believed to be the most popular RSS client on iOS. With the shutdown of Google Reader this summer, developer Silvio Rizzi was forced to add support for other RSS services like Feedly and Feedbin.

But for whatever reason, Rizzi was only able to update the iPhone version of the app with third-party RSS support, leaving tablet users out in the cold. So Reeder for iPad essentially died alongside Google Reader. But don't worry, it's been brought back to life...

New iPhone 5s OtterBox cases built to accommodate Touch ID

It looks like folks hoping to find a case that offers full device protection for their iPhone 5s may not have to wait very long to get one. Popular case-maker OtterBox announced this week that it has 4 cases ready to go for the handset.

More specifically, the company says that all of its new cases are "designed specifically to accommodate the new Touch ID fingerprint identity sensor technology," and all device functionality remains uninhibited by the accessories...

Looking to grab Apple's new iPhone 5c? Then you better keep your credit card handy. It appears that pre-orders for the new handset are set to begin Friday, September 13—that's tomorrow—at 12:01 am Pacific Time.

The information comes from U.S. carrier partners Verizon and Sprint, who have both posted pre-order info on their websites. Apple hasn't confirmed the time yet, but it has in year's past coordinated with the providers...

Download the new iOS 7 wallpapers now

In addition to unveiling the new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c yesterday, Apple also seeded the Golden Master of iOS 7. It should be the final beta we see of the big software update, before it gets released to the public on September 18.

As we've already pointed out, iOS 7 GM doesn't include much in the way of changes. It does, however, feature several new wallpapers, which we went hands-on with yesterday. And since everyone seemed to like them so much, we thought we'd do something about it by posting all the new iOS 7 wallpapers for download...
