Apple details Touch ID: no on-device fingerprints, 48-hour wipe, doesn’t like moisture

Apple left a few important questions unanswered regarding its all-new fingerprint sensor implemented on the iPhone 5s, called Touch ID. The useful feature stems from Apple's 2012 purchase of Israeli-based biometric security experts AuthenTec. In a nutshell, Apple strives to easily and securely authenticate users into their device and approve purchases from the iTunes Store, App Store or iBookstore - simply by scanning their finger on the Home button.

What happens next is anyone's guess. Neither Apple's website nor available promotional material reveals much in way of detail. Perhaps sensing a privacy scare in the making, Apple dispatched its spokesperson to dispel any notion that the new iPhone might expose users to security risks...

iPhone 5s impresses in early graphics benchmarks

One of the big new features in the iPhone 5s is its A7 processor with '64-bit desktop-class architecture.' What these buzzwords essentially mean is that the thing is fast—Apple says the CPU is 40x faster and graphics are 56x faster than the original iPhone.

But that doesn't really tell us much in the way of performance, does it? Luckily, an early graphics benchmark for the handset surfaced this morning that gives us a better idea of how the 5s will perform. And the results show significant gains over the iPhone 5...

Some Apple Stores discount iPhone 5 stock

Yesterday's iPhone 5s/5c announcement has brought a few changes to the iPhone lineup. The 16/32/64GB iPhone 5s is now Apple's new top-of-the-line offering, respectively priced at $199/$299/$399 with a two-year contract. Apple has also discounted the iPhone 5 and reshuffled the iPhone 4s offering by introducing the 8GB iPhone 4s as the bargain option costing zero bucks after a two-year contract.

According to a new report, some of the California firm's retail stores in Canada have discounted existing stock of the unlocked iPhone 5 models with sixteen and thirty-two gigabytes by $100. The off-contract 16GB iPhone 5 has also been slashed by $100 to $599, down from $699 previously...

Infinity Blade III coming to iOS September 18 for $6.99

I'm not sure how it happened, but somewhere amidst all of the excitement yesterday, we completely neglected to talk about the new Infinity Blade game. For those who missed it, Apple brought Chair's Donald Mustard up on stage during its iPhone event to introduce Infinity Blade III.

The move, of course, was to help Apple show off the power of the iPhone 5s' new A7 processor, but it was a big moment for Infinity Blade fans as well. After the 'Dungeons' title was canceled, the future of the franchise was uncertain. But Chair put all those concerns to rest yesterday...

iPhone 5s/5c will support 4G LTE on UK’s O2 and Three, carriers confirm

Apple's new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c can work on more than thirteen different LTE bands, "more than any other single model of smartphone," per Apple. Whereas last year's iPhone 5 launched in a hundred countries across 240 different carriers, 2013 iPhones will be released on an additional 30 carriers, bringing the number of world carriers which carry Apple's device to 270. Now, there's been some commotion whether or not the handset's updated LTE capabilities support 4G LTE flavors of United Kingdom's O2 and Three carriers...

Apple posts iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c product videos to YouTube

Can't get enough of the new iPhones? Yeah, us either. So as you can imagine, we were excited to see that Apple has posted three new promotional videos for the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c on its YouTube channel this evening.

Ok so they're not new videos—Apple showed them during its media event earlier today. But for those who missed them, or just love watching Jony Ive talk against a white background, we've posted the clips after the break...

iPhone 5c photo gallery

While the iPhone 5s turned some heads today with its new 64-bit A7 processor, redesigned camera, and fingerprint-sensing Home button, the star of the show was clearly the iPhone 5c. After years of rumors and speculation, the more affordable plastic iPhone became a reality.

The device itself is essentially iPhone 5 hardware, repackaged in a polycarbonate plastic shell and priced at less than $100 (with contract). And with its chamfered edges and various bright colorways, it's actually a pretty sharp-looking device. Here, check out our 5c gallery...

As expected, Apple unveiled two new smartphones today. The first was the plastic iPhone 5c, and the second the iPhone 5s. And if you've been paying attention to the rumor mill over the past several months, there shouldn't have been any surprises.

The 5c comes in various bright colors, and is equipped with hardware comparable to that of the iPhone 5. And the 5s of course looks very similar to its predecessor, but it includes a faster processor, better camera and a built-in fingerprint sensor.

You have to admit that even though it sports the same design as last year, and new features were kept to a minimum, the iPhone 5s is still a very impressive handset–both from a design and performance standpoint. Here, take a look at this gallery...

Check out these gorgeous photos taken with the new iPhone 5s

Apple likely disappointed spec-watchers everywhere when it announced today that it kept the camera on the iPhone 5s at 8-megapixels. This means that, on paper at least, the handset is inferior to those with 12, 13 and 41mp sensors.

But as you'll see in these sample photos, taken with an actual iPhone 5s, that's just not the case. With its five-element Apple-designed lens, F2.2 aperture and 15% larger active sensor area, the 5s will hold its own among the best of them...

iPhone 5c tech specs

Those who dared saying the "the C in iPhone 5C is for Cheap" were proved to be wrong. As it stands, the iPhone 5c is anything but cheap. Pretty much an iPhone 5 in a new shell, the iPhone 5c is Apple's most colorful iPhone yet.

The iPhone 5c tech specs don't have anything very exciting, especially if you've already looked at the iPhone 5s specs, which we published not long ago. In an effort to document the release of the iPhone 5c, we will post the device's tech specs here for posterity...

iPhone 5s tech specs

The iPhone 5s might look like an iPhone 5 on the outside, but a few things have changed on the inside, making it, as you've probably guessed, the best iPhone yet.

Apple usually doesn't brag too much about specs because, as my wife says, "it's not about the size of your processor, it's about what you do with it." All jokes aside, even though Apple dropped a few tech specs today, we wanted to gather them up all under one roof.

More importantly, we have listed the iPhone 5s tech specs below for historical purposes. In several years from now, when the iPhone 5s is nowhere to be found on Apple's website, this post will help us have a look back on the iPhone 5s and its specs in one convenient place...
