Aliens, jetpack and more in Gameloft’s latest Gangstar Vegas update

French games maker Gameloft has released an interesting new content pack for Gangstar Vegas, the latest installment in its Grand Theft Auto series which hit the App Store in June of last year.

Available in the App Store as a free update for existing users, the Gangstar vs. Aliens content pack pits you against - what do you know - aliens! The game is still set in the City of Sin and this update brings back the jetpack while adding additional missions, weapons, costumes and vehicles.

If you live Gangstar Vegas, strap on your jetpack and kick some alien butt in the Gangstar vs. Aliens update...

Sketchy rumor claims iPhablet won’t use iPhone branding

A new report out of Taiwan reiterates that Apple is working on two new iPhone models, one with a display measuring 4.7 inches diagonally and the other sporting a 5.6-inch screen. However, the story surprisingly claims Apple won't use iPhone branding for the 5.6-inch model because this "non-iPhone" is apparently an "experimental" device.

We're not sure what to think about this as Apple has always branded all of its smartphone models as iPhones. The claim reminds me of an old rumor which said Apple would release a new kind of iOS device, a cross of sorts between the iPhone and the MacBook Air that would justify a completely new branding...

Microsoft relaunches SkyDrive as OneDrive, adds referral bonus storage

Microsoft announced a few weeks ago that it would be changing the name of its SkyDrive cloud service to OneDrive, and this morning the full rebrand went into effect. This doesn't mean much, as existing apps will continue to work with the service.

In fact, the iOS app has already been rebranded, and it looks like Windows, Mac and Android apps will be updated today with the new name. But there are a few changes being made that are worth noting, like the new Dropbbox-like referral bonuses...

Echofon Pro update adds new profile design, photo filters and more

When you talk about third-party Twitter clients, two offerings tend to come up first: Tweetbot and Twitterrific. But there are several other good options available, including Echofon, which just received a significant update today.

Released as version 7.2.5, the update brings about a number of improvements including an all-new profile design, with profile headers and better support for viewing push notifications. And it brings back photo filters to the iPhone...

Google Translate updated with iOS 7 keyboard, support for more languages

Google posted an update for its popular Translate iOS client today, bringing the app to version 2.1. The update includes various UI improvements, including the new iOS 7 keyboard and status bar, as well as support for new languages.

The new keyboard is great, as it brings the app in line with other iOS 7 apps, and the same goes for the transparent status bar. And as for the additional handwriting languages support, it includes Arabic, Hebrew, Maltese, and more...

iOS 7.1 said to be launching ‘around March 15’ with improved device management

Apple has seeded 5 developer betas of iOS 7.1, and it's expected to push it to the public within the next month. It'll be the largest update to the mobile operating system since iOS 7 landed last fall, and will feature a number of improvements.

Now just what those will be, we don't know yet. We've seen minor performance and UI tweaks in the betas, but not much in the way of new features. A new report, however, says 7.1 could bring about new mobile device management tools...

Apple posts update for iTunes Connect web portal

Apple has posted an update for its iTunes Connect portal this evening. Developers use this portal to track and manager their App Store apps, and tonight's update has brought about a new Sales and Trends sections that allows them to better parse sales data.

The move should appease developers, who have long-complained that the iTunes Connect portal lacked useful reporting tools. In fact, many developers have forgone using iTunes Connect entirely for app figures, opting for other analytics services like App Annie...

Huawei video teases new devices by slamming iPhone and Siri

Chinese handset vendor Huawei's video is teasing new smartphones, tablets and phablets coming. The clip has an iPhone owner conversing with Siri, Apple's digital personal assistant.

The narrator asks Siri about new things coming to Mobile World Congress this year, which runs February 24-27 in Barcelona, Spain. To this, Siri responds in a rather robotic, slow-talking voice that there will be “a new tablet with a beautiful slim design” with a “huge battery” that "gives you days of use," likely referring to new Huawei devices.

She also says: “One more thing: this device can even support the next generation LTE network.” Not sure about the 'even'. It's 2014 and LTE compatibility is hardly worth getting excited about in your talking points.

The video closes with the narrator asking, “Wow! What are they Fruit or Some Song?” Siri replies: “No. They are Huawei. It looks like Huawei is ready to amaze the world again”. I've included the video right after the break so give it a watch and meet us in comments...

BlackBerry diehards pan T-Mobile over iPhone offer

After T-Mobile CEO John Legere recently advised BlackBerry fans to switch to Apple's iPhone 5s, all hell broke loose as diehard fans deemed the offer insulting and took to social media to express their distaste for T-Mobile's sleezy direct marketing tactics.

The carrier invited customers via email to switch to an iPhone 5s for $0 down as a “great offer for BlackBerry customers” because the Apple handset has the right tools "to do more".

Judging by the amount and the intensity of backlash, it wasn't T-Mobile's finest moment: after all, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the struggling Canadian smartphone maker owns one of the most loyal and ardent following out there, the types of people who are especially sensitive to anything related to Apple...

Twitterrific users will be happy to hear that the iOS Twitter client has been updated this morning, bringing the app to version 5.6.1. The update brings about a handful of new features, as well as several improvements and bug fixes.

On the new feature front, The Iconfactory has added both streaming searches and conversation views (over wi-fi), as well as the ability to customize navigation tabs by tapping and holding. Keep reading for the full release notes...

T-Mobile making changes to its ‘Jump’ upgrade program this month

TmoNews is reporting that T-Mobile plans to make some changes to its early upgrade program 'Jump' in the near future. The site says that the carrier will soon get rid of the 6 month waiting period, essentially allowing customers to upgrade their devices as often as they want.

But don't get too excited yet. In addition to eliminating its equipment upgrade waiting periods, T-Mobile is also going to raise the amount that customers have to pay off before they can trade in their device for a new one to 50%, or half of their old handset's full retail price...

Apple to update iPad Air this year, no 12.9-inch iPad or new mini until 2015

KGI Securities' Ming-Chi Kuo is out with a new research note this weekend, offering predictions on Apple's tablet plans for the next two years. The analyst, who has a strong track record in tech predictions, believes that 2014 will be the year of the iPad Air.

Kuo sees Apple updating the full-sized iPad this year with an A8 processor, Touch ID fingerprint sensor, and possibly a few other improvements. But as for a new iPad mini and the oft-rumored 12.9-inch iPad "pro," he believes we wont see them until 2015...
