Purported iPhone 7 pricing leaks: 256GB version across all models, ‘iPhone 7 Pro’ mentioned

Citing a post on Chinese social network Weibo, PocketNow reported this morning that the flagship 256-gigabyte version of the iPhone 7 Plus could price-match the top-of-the-line 128-gigabyte iPhone 6s Plus model. According to the leaked pricing, the next iPhone lineup would include 32/64/256GB models for the 4.7-inch iPhone 7.

Its bigger brother, the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus, somewhat strangely gets listed with 32/128/256GB storage choices. The Chinese price list also mentions a brand new model for the upcoming iPhone refresh, referred to as 'iPhone 7 Pro'.

Responding to Nilay Patel's controversial article on The Verge, titled “Taking the Headphone Jack Off Phones Is User-Hostile and Stupid”, Daring Fireball's John Gruber pulls out the floppy drive analogy.

As you know, the next iPhone is rumored to ditch the industry-standard 3.5mm jack in favor of Bluetooth and Lightning-based headphones.

Gruber goes on to compare Nilay's arguments against removing the century-old analog jack from mobile devices to the similar arguments that had been made in response to Apple's decision to ditch the good ol' floppy drive from the iMac in 1998 for USB.

Apple's next-generation handset may include dual-SIM trays allowing it to be used with multiple carriers more easily, if photos of alleged iPhone 7 components posted on Chinese microblogging service Weibo are anything to go by.

The ability to use two SIM cards at the same time, a first for iPhone, would let users send and receive cellular phone calls and text messages from two phone numbers, via two carriers. The iPhone 7 may also keep the headphone jack and include a 256-gigabyte model, a leakster said.

Many sources are adamant that we'll have to wait until a tenth anniversary iPhone next year for a bezel-less device with an integrated Touch ID sensor and no Home button. As for the upcoming iPhone 7 revision, the most recent leak from MobiPicker suggests that the iPhone 7 might come outfitted with a touch-sensitive Home button that sits flush with the surrounding bezel, requiring users to perform tapping actions due to the absence of any moving parts.

It looks like Apple has turned to LG's Innotek division as a source of dual-camera modules for its upcoming iPhone 7 refresh. Industry sources told Business Korea that “LG Innotek will exclusively supply dual camera module to Apple's iPhone 7 Plus, which will come out in September this year”.

Leaked components and sketchy rumors have led us to take for granted the theory that only the flagship, pricier iPhone 7 Plus model will exclusively include a new capacious 256-gigabyte model.

That assumption is now being challenged by researchers at TrendForce.

The research firm reported on Wednesday that the rumored 256GB SKU will actually extend to both iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models, possibly even replacing the most popular 64GB storage model.

Mentioned as a side-note in today's Nikkei report about Apple ostensibly switching to a three-year upgrade cycle for the iPhone is a brief mention of a supposed iPhone 7 enhancement that we haven't seen detailed in prior reports and rumors: a “high-performance motor” that should enable richer tactile vibrations throughout the system.

Purported iPhone 7 schematics, leaked by Czech website LetemSvetem Applem, suggest that neither the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 nor its 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus counterpart may get any thinner than their present-generation iPhone 6s/Plus counterparts.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed last September that Apple's next iPhone would be iPod touch-thin, measuring between 6-6.5mm for the 4.7-inch model.

With the next iPhone, this imaging gap between the regular-sized model and its 5.5-inch brethren is expected to widen by a significant margin.

Apple's next smartphone refresh may or may not bring a major design overhaul to the iPhone that fans have been holding their breath for, but we still fully expect the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus to be worthwhile upgrades in terms of both the looks and the features.

The rumor-mill does think, however, the device could have a cleaner look and feel due to the antenna lines being relocated to the very top and bottom.

The rear camera is said to protrude less from the housing and have a bevelled look and we might even get a pair of grilles at the bottom for stereo speakers. Taking it all in, Dutch 3D artist Jermaine Smit has imagined the iPhone 7 Plus in a concept video.

A claimed photo of an alleged 4.7-inch iPhone 7 backplate, which surfaced on a Weibo account this morning, gives us a closer look at the handset's protruding camera, cleaner antenna lines and more. Prior leaks showed a camera design not flush with the housing, but the new photo suggests that the rear camera could be slightly bevelled, too.
