Gadget Resellers Eagerly Await the iPhone 5

As the announcement of Apple's next iPhone draws near, online resellers are gearing up for an influx in older iPhone models for sale.

When Apple introduced the iPhone 4 at WWDC last year, online gadget buyback service Gazelle bought back 10,000 old iPhone models the very same day, with the site buying back 32,000 iPhones total last year. Sites like Gazelle expect a larger increase in older generation iPhone sales when Apple unveils the iPhone 5 this Fall...

Whoopsie! Nokia Uses iPhone 4 in Advertisement

This post could have been titled "How to lose your job at Nokia in just one advertisement," and that's probably what will happen to one, or several, Nokia employees that definitely have no attention for detail.

This ad was spotted in an Australian mall. As you can tell, the woman in this picture is actually using an iPhone 4...

Gizmodo iPhone 4 Case Finally Coming to an End

I think most of you folks will recall the infamous iPhone 4 debacle that occurred last Spring. Months before the device's official release, an Apple engineer left his test unit at a bar in San Jose, California.

Not only did someone pick it up, but they negotiated a deal to sell the thing to Gizmodo. As serious as Apple is about secrecy, and given Steve Jobs' passionate temper, a lot of folks figured this kid wouldn't live through the weekend...

Compass for Maps Fleshes Out the iPhone’s Stock Maps App

Last week we showcased Speed for Maps, a Speedometer jailbreak add-on for the iPhone's stock maps app. This week, the same developer has followed up with a sequel of sorts, a compass add-on that looks and feels just like his previous work.

The main difference here, is that you must use an iOS device equipped with a digital compass. In other words, when it comes to the iPhone, only the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4 qualify.

Check inside for a video demonstration of Compass for Maps in action...

BookBook iPhone 4 Case Video Review

Rarely do I find myself getting overly excited about something as mundane as a phone accessory, a case no less.

The thing is, this isn't just any accessory, it's the accessory. In fact, it might just be my favorite iPhone accessory of all time. It's elegant, it's functional, and it lends peace of mind and simplicity to a life that can seem overly complicated at times.

In my opinion, the hallmark of a great product isn't merely based on its technical merit, its precision, or its beauty. It's a combination of all of those; but most importantly, a great product is one that you don't have to think about, it's just there for you when you need it to be.

That's what makes the Twelve South BookBook case so good. It's extremely practical and functional. It has that old school organic class that's so hard to come by in the silicon world that we've found ourselves forced into. Dare I say it's the James Dean of iPhone accessories; strikingly handsome, a bit gritty, with Oscar winning capabilities. Check out our full video review after the break...

China Mobile and Apple Reportedly Ink Deal for iPhone 4 Launch this Fall

China Mobile is the world's largest wireless carrier with 600+ million subscribers, and it doesn't have the iPhone yet. While we've heard a lot of speculation that Apple will soon be joining forces with the provider, we haven't really known when to expect a done deal.

We recently heard rumors that the two companies had agreed on a TD-LTE smartphone, but that's not likely until sometime next year. So will Apple tap China Mobile's enormous customer base before then? RBC Capital Markets' Mike Abramsky seems to think so...

Why We Could See a Retooled iPhone 4 This Fall

BGR picked up on some interesting comments made by Brian White of Ticonderoga Securities yesterday. In a note to investors, the analyst cited a report from Sohu.com claiming that Apple and China Telecom were putting the finishing touches on an iPhone 5 partnership.

We've known for quite some time that Apple was working on closing a deal with China's 3rd largest carrier, but we didn't know how soon it'd be finished. White told shareholders yesterday that China Telecom would have 2 iPhone models by October of this year — 2 very different models...

All signs have been pointing to a September release of the iPhone 5, and retail outlets have begun to offer discounts for the iPhone 4 in anticipation of Apple's upcoming device.

In the US, Radio Shack and Target have already cut prices for the iPhone 4. If you're not interested in getting Apple's next generation smartphone this Fall, now would be an excellent time to pick up a new iPhone 4.
