EA Launches Daily Deals Page for its iOS Games

With Christmas just two weeks away, developers are undoubtedly going to start rolling out their app specials soon. It's the holidays, and just as publishers hosted major app sales over Thanksgiving week, we expect to see tons of deals this month.

EA, or Electronic Arts rather, was at the forefront of the discounting in November, shaving up to 80% off of some of its most popular titles. And apparently it has even bigger plans in store for December, as the company has setup a dedicated Daily Deals site...

Instagram is definitely in danger of taking over the world. An Inside Look at Apple’s New In-Store Pickup Service

A few weeks ago, Apple updated its retail store app with multiple new features. The two that really stood out were the EasyPay self-checkout option and the new in-store pickup service.

Apple Expands App Subscriptions to Games

Apple unveiled its App Store subscription service in February of this year to mixed reviews. Publishers appreciated the opportunity to expand into the iOS ecosystem, and its millions of users, but they hated the terms.

The company has since revised its in-app subscription policy, and the service has grown to be moderately successful. So successful, in fact, that Apple has decided to open up the service to game developers as well...

Ever since our initial post that showed how to create shortcuts for some of the most used items in the Settings app, many have taken a lot of interest in the idea.

Considering that there is no jailbreak for the iPhone 4S, and no untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 in general, many are using Settings panel shortcuts as they wait for a jailbreak solution that works for them.

In the meantime, UI designer Jeff Broderick has taken things into his own hands, creating the most beautiful and detailed shortcuts icons we've seen to date...

Sent is a Gmail App for iPhone that Gets Things Right, But Not Perfect

It seems like iOS Gmail apps are a little bit like London buses: you wait an hour for one, and then three come along at once. Two notable Gmail apps have entered the App Store as of late.

Gmail users rejoiced when Google finally brought an official Gmail app to the App Store, but after downloading the app, it was clear that the bug-laden effort wasn't what it should be. Google pulled it and eventually made it available again after fixing some of the more glaring bugs. That said, it's still not great, and is missing some features that we hope Google will eventually get around to adding.

A new app to join the Gmail fray goes by the name of "Sent," and while it is indeed a more native experience than Google's solution, the app doesn't get everything right...

VoIP-Based Services Like iMessage Reportedly Eating Carriers’ Lunches

With third-party instant messaging apps, Apple's own iMessage, and VoIP services becoming more prevalent, it is to be expected that at some point mobile networks will see a reduction in revenue as people move away from using SMS and voice calling.

What we didn't really expect is the move to start happening so soon. But according to one report, carriers are already feeling the pinch.

Research carried out by infrastructure solutions provider Mavenir Systems on behalf of mobileSQUARED suggests that carriers are already finding that third-party solutions are beginning to impact their business, and it's only going to get worse for the bottom line...

Angry Birds Reaches 500 Million Downloads Worldwide

It seems we just can't get enough of those Angry Birds, with developer Rovio announcing that the game has been downloaded a whopping 500 million times worldwide.

The half a billion downloads are made up of the three Angry Birds games currently available: Angry Birds, Angry Birds Rio, and Angry Birds Seasons.

Key to the game's success is its cross-platform nature, with Angry Birds available to download on most platforms you could care to name, with iOS, Android, web, Mac, and Windows all present, and versions also set to come to the Nokia Asha 300 and 303 phones...
