iTranslate goes universal, adds native iOS 7 iPad UI

I generally dig software by German developer Sonico Mobile. As I'm not a native English speaker, you could imagine Sonico's free translator and dictionary program called iTranslate is one of the apps I always keep on my Home screen no matter what. I'm happy to report that the team has now produced a universal binary which perfectly adopts to iOS 7 by functionality and design.

The new iTranslate for iPhone and iPad is now available free in the App Store, bringing with it the native iPad interface featuring revamped appearance for iOS 7 aesthetics. Check out the screenshots and additional tidbits right after the break...

It looks like Apple's suppliers and manufacturers in Taiwan in China are finally catching up with demand. First we learned that Foxconn is finally ramping up iPhone 5s production, with handset ship times being lowered earlier this week to three to five days for online orders.

And now, despite the initial rumors of shortages concerning the new iPad mini with Retina display it would appear that production bottlenecks are easing quickly, with the Cupertino company reportedly having ordered a total of nearly four million Retina iPad minis in the month of November...

Popular cloud storage service Mega launches iOS app

In January of last year, the US Department of Justice sent a shockwave through the cloud storage industry by shutting down MegaUpload. The hosting site allowed users to upload and store large files, and at one point was the 13th most visited site on the Internet.

This year, exactly 12 months after MegaUpload shut down, founder Kim Dotcom reincarnated his cloud storage service as simply 'Mega.' The new service is more secure than its predecessor, includes 50 GB of free storage space, and now [finally] has an iOS app...

Delivery Status touch update adds support for iCloud Keychain and more

We're big fans of Junecloud's package-tracking app Delivery Status touch. It's what most of us here at iDB use to track our new iPhones, iPads and other gear when we order online, and it even made our list of Best iPhone apps.

And today, Delivery Status touch received a significant update, bringing the app to version 5.0.1. The update includes a number of improvements, such as support for iCloud Keychain, French shipping outfit Chronopost and more...

Microsoft doubles down on iPad bashing with a pair of new Surface ads

In what's now become a recurring theme, Windows maker Microsoft just fired the latest salvo of television commercials that predictably portray Apple's iPad as a lesser tablet. Posted on the official Surface blog, a pair of holiday-themed advertisements highlight one hardware and one software feature of the Microsoft tablet: a built-in kickstand and multi-account support.

The Redmond giant doesn't shy away from mentioning the iPad brand name in the videos. "Free apps on the iPad don’t offer the same hands-free technology," says the voiceover in the first ad that highlights a Food & Drink app which come preloaded with Windows 8.1. The other ad lambasts Apple's device because it "doesn’t allow for multiple accounts and does not have the ability to monitor usage"...

Japan’s NTT DoCoMo to land iPad Air real soon

NTT DoCoMo, Japan's top wireless carrier with about sixty million subscribers, accounts for more than half of that country's market for cell phones. Apple products - the iPhone in particular - are tremendously popular with the Japanese so fans will be delighted to learn that NTT will soon open sales for Apple's new iPad Air.

The confirmation came via a senior DoCoMo executive who said in Tokyo that his company will start carrying the iPad Air "in the not-too-distant future". I guess you could say the development's been in the cards ever since Apple announced an iPhone distribution agreement with the carrier in September...

Great news gamers! Rockstar announced this morning that it is working on a port for its popular Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas title, and it will be landing on iOS (and Android) in December. Additionally, it will support new MFi controllers.

Digital scrapbook app Ember coming to iPhone and iPad in December

Ember, a digital scrapbook app from the Clear to-do app's creator Realmac Software, arrived back in July as a rather pricey $49.99 Mac App Store download. Despite its punishing price tag, I wrote that Ember struck me as an Evernote replacement I’ve long been yearning for. The team has since added a few new features such as Smart Drawing, Colours and iCloud sync, while squashing dozens of bugs.

And now, they've confirmed that the iOS version will be available in December. This is great news as I can now introduce Ember into my daily workflow, hopefully being able to jot down notes, create journals and manage my notebooks on whatever device I happen to be using, be it a Mac, iPad, iPhone or iPod touch...

Procreate 2 brings GPU-accelerated filters, 64-bit support, 4K canvas size

Procreate, the Apple Design Award winning illustration app for the iPad, is a seriously addictive and immensely powerful piece of software which turns your iPad into a digital painting canvas, thanks to the incredibly accurate and smooth Silica painting engine.

The team back in August enhanced Procreate by adding support for Wacom’s Intuos Creative Stylus along with the ability to make canvas recordings in full HD (1080p).

In a major iOS 7 focused update today, Procreate version 2.0 introduces full support for iOS 7 and Apple's 64-bit A7 processor, with additional optimizations for the new iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display. More importantly, Procreate 2 now includes new filters and adjustments which take advantage of your tablet's GPU through a hardware-accelerated engine, a first for Procreate...
