Bluetooth SIG introduces Bluetooth 4.1 with new features, improved usability

It seems like it wasn't too long ago that Bluetooth only existed to connect tacky headsets to cell phones. But these days, the wireless technology is used for connecting peripherals, data transfers, and nearly everything in between.

This week, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) announced the latest update to the Bluetooth specification, bringing it to version 4.1. The update features a number of enhancements, like improved data transfers and more...

Fruit Ninja developer Halfbrick Studios releases new ‘Band Stars’ game

Band Stars is a simulation game, which tasks you with forming a band and spending time in the studio recording music. The goal of the game is to complete various challenges and reach the top of local, national and global music charts...

Assassin’s Creed: Pirates now available in the App Store

Great news for gamers this morning. Ubisoft's highly anticipated mobile game Assassin's Creed: Pirates is now available in the App Store. The release comes 3 months after the studio announced the title, which is exclusive for smartphones and tablets.

In Pirates, you'll play as Alonzo Batilla, a young and ambitious captain looking to take on the fiercest of enemies. You'll build up your crew and ship, and engage in real-time naval battles across the Caribbean Sea illustrated in "groundbreaking 3D visuals."

Square Enix posts screenshots of upcoming Final Fantasy VI iOS port

Back in October, Square Enix director Takashi Tokita announced that his team was working on a mobile version of its popular Final Fantasy VI title. The game, he said, will be landing on iOS and Android platforms "this winter."

Unfortunately, that's about all we know right now, and the winter timeframe means we may not see anything until mid-March. But luckily, Square Enix decided to throw FF fans a bone this week and has posted some screenshots...

Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio review: a thin, light and classy keyboard for iPad Air

Now that Apple has finally updated its full-sized tablet with completely new dimensions, iPad Air owners are forced to update their cases, covers, and sleeves, too. I have been using the same Solar Keyboard Folio from Logitech since 2011.

Luckily, Logitech has recently revamped their line of keyboards, folios and cases to fit the thinner iPad Air. The FabricSkin Keyboard Folio for iPad Air has been updated with more than just different dimensions. The case has been redesigned to be thinner, lighter and easier to use. Read on for our review of the Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio for iPad...

Crazy rumor (or is it?) claims 12.9-inch ‘iPad maxi’ will rock 4K Retina display

As the Wall Street Journal in July gave credence to 12.9-inch iPad speculation, which dates back to a sketchy report published in May 2013, we're now officially in the clear as far as crazy rumors go. The mythical iPad designed for real men - let's call it the 'iPad maxi' for the time being, shall we? - could give Retina a new meaning by incorporating an ultra high-resolution 4K screen.

If true, the device's advanced display will manage to squeeze 8+ million pixels typically found on desktop monitors - such as Dell's latest 27-incher or Sharp's 32-inch IGZO monitor - onto a canvas which measures less than thirteen inches diagonally.

Given that Amazon and Google now have tablets that outperform the iPad's 2,047-by-1,536 pixel resolution screen, I imagine Apple must be very interested to reclaim the Highest-Resolution Tablet crown it once held...

Some Apple Stores now matching iPhone 5c, iPad Air deals

Looking for a deal on an iPhone 5c or iPad Air for the holidays? Well it looks like your local Apple Store may be able to help out. According to a new report, a number of locations have started to price-match on these new products.

This means that if you see a sale going on at your nearby carrier store or electronics reseller, you might be able to get Apple to match their prices. It sounds like discounting will stop at 10% and of course other restrictions apply...

Slope review: magical tablet stand for Apple’s magical iPad

Following a round of a successful Kickstarter campaign I wrote about a year ago, the wonderful Slope iPad stand finally went on sale in early-November. Without sounding melodramatic, this is hands down one of the very finest tablet stands I have ever seen or tried.

A brainchild of Chicago-based designer Erik Kittlaus, the aluminum-clad Slope is wonderfully minimalistic. It resembles the base of an iMac stand and suspends your tablet mid-air using innovative technology which requires no moving parts.

Erik was kind enough to ship a review sample over. Having played with my Slope for the past week or so, I fell in love tremendously with it, so much so that it's quickly replaced Ozaki's iCarry Excavator as my primary iPad stand. Read my full review right below...

Artist uses iPad to paint amazing Morgan Freeman portrait

It's believed by some folks that the iPad can only be used as a consumption tool, and isn't capable of producing content. Well apparently no one has told artist Kyle Lambert this, as he uses the popular tablet to paint incredibly realistic celebrity portraits.

In the past he's done celebrities like Will Smith, David Beckham and Madonna, but his latest work of art, which is easily his best, is of famous actor Morgan Freeman. The textures, the intense detail. You just have to watch this video of Lambert at work...

Amazon takes on iPad, Jony Ive in new Kindle Fire HDX ad

They say the more successful you are, the bigger the target on your back gets. And that appears to be true with Apple and its iPad, as Amazon joins Microsoft and others in taking the popular tablet to task via TV spots.

In its latest commercial for the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9, the ecommerce giant compares its slate to the iPad Air. And if we're not mistaken, it sounds like the man with the smooth english accent is supposed to be Jony Ive...
