Are you itching to get rid of your old iPhone to make room for the iPhone 5 this Fall? What about an extra iPad, iPod, or even computer lying around the house? Apple wants to buy back your old tech!
Apple's electronics recycling program allows you to mail in old Apple products in exchange for a gift card. If the device is in good enough shape, you'll get pretty decent compensation for that old iPhone that would have probably just sat on your desk otherwise.
For those of you who missed it, Samsung agreed to delay the launch of its Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia last week. The move was in direct response to an injunction filed by Apple, who's claiming that Samsung has infringed on some of their patents.
The legal feud has been going on for several months, but it has started to get interesting over the last few weeks. Not only has Apple delayed the Galaxy's Tab launch down under, reports are coming in that they've blocked the tablet in Europe, too...
Apple has always limited users to a certain number of devices for authorization with a specific Apple ID. The rules and terms of multiple device syncing with an Apple ID have always been a little confusing, with the introduction of iCloud posing an even bigger problem for how purchased content can be distributed and synced across multiple devices.
Apparently, the system of Apple ID authorization isn't as smooth as we all thought it was. You're actually limited to 10 total devices for one Apple ID...
Here's one giant kick in the teeth for Apple and its App Store policies.
Amazon has today launched its new Amazon Kindle Cloud Reader web app, which offers the full Kindle library as an HTML web page, offering the ability to read, and, more importantly, buy books from your browser. That's more important because it means Amazon no longer has to abide by Apple's laws for the selling of content inside an iOS app.
It also means Apple loses out on 30% of the revenue...
Way back when Apple first announced the iPad last year, the Cupertino outfit was very careful not to put its new device up against the notebook market. 'The iPad is a new class of device," it said, claiming that it fitted in-between the smartphone and notebook, filling the gap with a large, touchscreen display that filled our hearts with joy and wonder.
Fast-forward a year and a handful of months, and it's clear that the iPad has taken sales away from at least some notebook manufacturers. The netbook market is all but dead, and the same companies who tried to sell $300 laptops are now selling $500 iPad competitors...
As reported by the WSJ, Chinese Customs officials have cracked down on a group of smugglers who, apparently, have been moving iPads and iPhones across the Hong Kong/China border using an elaborate pulley system which included, wait for it... a crossbow.
The six smugglers used their crossbow to propel a cable across the Sha Tau Kok river, according to reports...
Things have taken a rather turn for the strange here at iDownloadBlog today, with news coming from the New York Post of a swanky new iPad cover being made available.
The new cover, offered for sale by Frederick James, are apparently fashioned out of the pants (that's trousers, for us Brits) of one Bernie Madoff...
Apple's replacement for MobileMe, iCloud, is set for a public launch this Fall. iCloud keeps all of your data wirelessly synced across all of your devices, and most of the service's features will be available for free to all Apple customers.
If you're eager to get your hands on iCloud, you'll have to wait until Apple opens it up to the public next month. In the meantime, you can show your excitement for iCloud by downloading this awesome wallpaper pack for iOS and the Mac...
Today, Boxee released its iPad app, which allows users to stream content to your iPad from your computer. Boxee first showed off its iPad app at CES, and it has finally made its way to the App Store.
Along with streaming content, the app also allows you to view featured videos from Boxee, as well as shared videos with your friends. Videos that are shared with and from your friends can be pulled from Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr...
Ready for another interesting way to "secure" your iPhone's app icons? The latest so-called security app on the block is IconLock, and it's a free download on Cydia's BigBoss repo.
While anyone who has any inkling about iPhone jailbreaking will easily compromise your plans to lock down your iPhone, it should be more than enough to keep grandma from accidentally ruining your app icon layout.
Check inside for a full video synopsis of IconLock...
As you're probably well aware of, we love it when criminals get their comeuppance. It's even a little extra entertaining if the crooks get nabbed due to a lack of common sense. Such is the case for our next 2 villains.
KPLCTV is reporting that 2 men have been arrested in Jennings, Louisiana in connection with multiple 'forged iPad deliveries'. Apparently, over the last few months, a FedEx driver has been stealing iPads from his truck and forging customers' signatures...
Even though it seems like the new car smell has kind of worn off, Google+ is still seeing tons of traffic. The company took the social networking space by storm last month, and Google+ still consists of 20 million+ members.
It's had a native iPhone app for weeks, but for some reason the software has been blocked from installing on both the iPad and iPod touch. Users had to go through several steps to install the application on their tablets, and half the time it didn't work...
