iOS 7

The evad3rs are investigating iOS 7 for possible exploits

Now that iOS 7 GM has been officially released, the evad3rs — the team responsible for bringing us the iOS 6 evasi0n jailbreak last winter — have started looking into iOS 7. The team, according to prominent iOS hacker and team member @planetbeing, are now in a reconnaissance phase to see which exploits, if any, still work with iOS 7.

This is being done on existing devices like the iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, etc. The new devices, especially the iPhone 5S with its 64-bit processor, will presumably be another massive hurdle to overcome once they launch later this month. Regardless of what the final outcome may eventually be, this is great news for those of us who would like a jailbreak for iOS 7.

Hands on with iOS 7 new ringtones and alerts sounds

Apple had at least one surprise that wasn't totally exposed prior to its keynote this morning — new ringtones and alerts for the final iOS 7 release. These ringtones and alerts are only available with the GM version of iOS 7 that just went live for developers, so current beta users won't see these yet.

We've taken the liberty to video all of the new alerts for iOS 7 so that you can hear them for yourself. To our surprise, there's quite a few new ringtones and a lot of them are really good. Of course, Apple has kept all of the old ringtones as well, making them available in a new classic folder in the Sounds > Ringtone section of the stock Settings app.

Take a look inside to hear all of the new iOS 7 ringtones and alerts in their glory.

Apple seeds iOS 7 GM to developers: this is what’s new

In a not-so-surprising move, Apple has released iOS 7 GM to developers this afternoon. The release follows Apple's big iPhone event this morning, where it went over major features from the software and unveiled two new handsets.

The GM, or Golden Master, release should be the final one before the update is rolled out to the public next week. And it's available now to all registered app developers through Apple's dev center—no sign of over-the-air just yet...

iOS 7 will be available on September 18

Apple's keynote is underway at the Town Hall campus in Cupertino, California and the company has just confirmed the software will be released for public consumption next wednesday, September 18, 2013. There are over two hundred new features in iOS 7, including Control Center, better multitasking, improved notifications, iTunes Radio and of course a brand new flattened interface. Apple also surprised journalists by playing a few new ringtones and alert tones that are not present in Beta builds...

Apple invites developers to submit their iOS 7 apps

With the recent release of iOS 7 GM to developers, it is not surprising that Apple has now been sending emails inviting them to submit their iOS 7 apps. With an official public release set for September 18, developers can finally submit their updated apps.

Along with the usual "improvements and bug fixes," many apps updated for iOS 7 will probably take into account the radical design change introduced by Apple's latest mobile Operating System.

Here is Apple's email to developers:

Amazon posts ‘required’ Kindle app update for users upgrading to iOS 7

With the public release of iOS 7 on the horizon, users should expect to have to install a number of app updates over the next several weeks. Developers have a lot of work to do to prepare their apps for the big upcoming change.

Amazon took the first step this weekend, issuing what it is calling a 'required' update for its Kindle app. The company says that users of the popular e-book service must download the new version prior to upgrading to iOS 7...

Saurik: there’s “very little hope” that WinterBoard will support iOS 7 [updated]

When iOS 7 drops later this month, it will mark the largest and most radical update in the platform's history. In addition to its number of new features, the software's UI has been rebuilt from the ground up, bringing about new colors, fonts and other elements.

And while most people—at least those who have seen it—seem to be ok with the changes, others are counting on an iOS 7 jailbreak to get rid of the makeover. But that may be easier said than done, because according to Saurik, the future looks bleak for theming...

iOS in the Car cannot come soon enough

I recently purchased a new top of the line 2013 Nissan Pathfinder and am very pleased with the family decision. Everything is exactly what my wife was looking for in a vehicle, sleek exterior, beautiful interior, mandatory leather seats, and room for future 2.2 kids and a Great Dane. The size, we felt, was a little lacking, but it stood up to its rivals with a bit of finesse.

We get our new, fresh smelling, SUV home and start playing with it in the driveway like two kids and a new toy on Christmas morning. But, we obviously are attracted to different things. My wife wanted to climb all over the back seats, adjust the driver seat, and set the memory locks for her key fob. I go straight for the dashboard entertainment center.

I took a fairly hard look at the infotainment center on our various test drives, but once I had my iPod classic freshly synced and plugged into the Pathfinder, I quickly grew upset. Below the fold is a personal reaction to the system in our new vehicle and a highlight of how things could be done in a more fluid way...

Apple ‘on hiring binge’ to strengthen iAd team ahead of iRadio Launch

Apple is seemingly scrambling to hire a number of key iAd executives in preparation for the launch of its streaming music service iTunes Radio. The Cupertino company is "on a hiring binge," placing job offers for more than two dozen positions, according to reports Wednesday.

At the head of Apple's talent search is for a creative design manager who would oversee rich media ads for such brands as McDonald's, Pepsi and Proctor & Gamble. The iTunes Radio service is expected to be unveiled September 10 alongside iOS 7...

Ahead of September’s reveal, Apple now asking devs to submit app icons at new iOS 7 sizes

With less than two weeks left until the looming iPhone 5S/5C event, Apple is now reportedly asking developers to submit larger app icons optimized for the new iOS 7 resolutions. Because Apple has slightly enlarged app icons in iOS 7, third-party applications which support only iOS 6 icon sizes appear with a small white border on the iOS 7 Home screen.

The company wants to avoid this so it's now demanding that developers submit app icons in the new iOS 7 120-by-120 pixel resolution for the iPhone and 152-by-152 pixels for the iPad...

AppleCare employee training commences ahead of iOS 7 launch

Apple today has reportedly begun educating its support army on the intricacies of iOS 7 and iTunes Radio and is training AppleCare employees to efficiently handle customer queries and help them transition to its revamped operating system, a reliable blogger has learned Thursday.

With iOS 7 now looming on the horizon and the software's official launch and public availability pegged for September 10, the AppleCare staff training is said to focus mostly on the visual changes in iOS 7, with specific emphasis on a few cherry-picked features. The company is also asking AppleCare employees to basically tell puzzled customers iOS 7 still works the same even though it looks significantly different than its predecessor...

iOS 7 general availability pegged for September 10

We've suspected for some time Apple will be holding its big iPhone event on September 10, with sources claiming a Gold Master iOS 7 build for developers will get released that same day. That's Apple's standard modus operandi as past Gold Master (GM) builds were seeded to the company's registered developers either at WWDC or at iPhone press conferences.

Alleged email communication Siri partner Nuance sent to devs now indicates iOS 7 GA will also be released the same day, on September 10. GA? GM?

There are some caveats here...
