iOS 4.3

Is an iPhone 4 Unlock For Basebands 3.10.01 and 2.10.04 Right on the Horizon?

If you've been using an iPhone 4 on basebands 3.10.01 or 2.10.04, your inability to unlock has undoubtedly been an issue of great concern.

Time and time again, we get our hopes up, only to come away disappointed.

Let's give Apple credit, they've done a decent job with keeping these basebands locked down for a significant amount of time, but the gates could be breached in the very near future...

iOS 4.3 Takes One More Step Closer to Reality

If you've been looking forward to some of the goodies contained in iOS 4.3 -- Apple's latest firmware for the iPhone and other devices -- then no doubt this will be music to your ears.

It appears that iOS 4.3 has finally gone gold, meaning that the firmware has been tested and finalized.

This indicates that we could see iOS 4.3 released to the public in the very near future -- next week, even...

Apple iPad Event to Take Place on March 2nd

Apple will be holding a press event next week at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Fransisco. The event is supposed to be focused on the iPad 2.

There have been reports that Apple's iPad announcement would be delayed, but multiple sources (including Apple) have recently confirmed that Apple will in fact hold an event next Wednesday.

Not much information has been leaked about the approaching Apple event besides specs for the next version of the iPad. Apple might update iOS as well, but there is no hard evidence to support that claim.

Apple Launches App Store Subscriptions for iOS

In a surprising move, Apple has launched its App Store subscription service without a co-release of iOS 4.3. In-app subscriptions will allow content producers to easily deliver content with a reoccurring purchase model, instead of a one-time, à la carte purchase system.

It was assumed that Apple would introduce its subscription service during a press event, but apparently a press release on Apple's website was all the announcement deserved.

Rupert Murdoch's "The Daily" news app was the first official peek at what Apple's subscription service would look like, but The Daily has been offered for free since its release. At the end of this month, The Daily will begin its paid subscriptions with Apple's new infrastructure...

Signs Point to a February 28 Release of iOS 4.3

If you've been patiently waiting for iOS 4.3, this might come as a good or bad news, depending on how you look at it. If that's any indication of the future iOS 4.3 release, the fine folks of this German website came across information that suggests Apple's latest iOS might be available to the general public on February 28.

This speculation is based on the fact that The Daily iPad app which was having a free trial until today, extended their trial period to February 28. Because The Daily is supposed to come on a subscription model which will be only available on iOS 4.3, it is safe to believe this firmware will come out on or around 2/28/11...

MyWi is an incredibly popular Cydia app that allows jailbreakers to have a heavily customizable mobile hotspot with their iPhone's 3G connection. We here at iDB love MyWi, and it's definitely been a staple of what the jailbreak scene has to offer for quite some time.

Intelliborn, the company behind MyWi, recently added a new feature to the popular hotspot app called "OnDemand." The purpose of MyWi OnDemand is to create a smarter mobile hotspot on the iPhone.

MyWi OnDemand will study the behavior of the devices connected to your hotspot, and connect or disconnect when you need it to...

iOS 4.3 Coming Very Soon, In-App Subscriptions, Personal Hotspot, and the iPad 2

All signs have been pointing to Apple releasing iOS 4.3 in the very near future, with speculation that Apple's 4.3 announcement could even come next week. Most speculation is centering on an Apple announcement taking place within the next 10 days.

Besides an iOS 4.3 announcement, Apple is rumored to be announcing the iPad 2, the Verizon iPhone's "Personal Hotspot" feature on AT&T, and an official release of in-app subscriptions.

Whether or not all of the speculation is accurate, it's evident that Apple will be holding an event in the near future...

New Feature in iOS 4.3: Canceling App Downloads

Apple recently seeded the newest iOS 4.3 beta to developers. We showed you a preview of the multitouch gestures that Apple is working on for iOS 4.3, but there haven't been many more features uncovered.

However, a new and nifty feature in iOS 4.3 has been unearthed by AppAdvice. In iOS 4.3, you will finally have the ability to cancel an app from downloading and installing. As of right now, you can only delete an app from your iPhone's home screen once it has fully downloaded and installed....

Apple Releases iOS 4.3 Beta 3 to Developers

Just about 2 weeks after releasing iOS 4.3 beta 2, Apple dropped iOS 4.3 beta 3 today to developers. This pre-release version of iOS 4.3 is for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPod Touch 3G and 4G, and the Apple TV.

Of course, you have to be a developer to be able to download iOS 4.3 beta 3 from Apple's website. At this point, we don't know if any major new feature was added to this beta release, but we shall find out soon.

Brand New Untethered Jailbreak Exploit Discovered By pod2g

Chronic Dev Team member @pod2g has been a busy man lately. Just a little over a week ago he unveiled a YouTube video showcasing the latest version of GreenPois0n, which is an untethered jailbreak tool for iOS 4.2.1.

Not one to rest on his laurels, the iPhone hacker tweeted yesterday that he's uncovered yet another exploit.

This latest exploit will also allow for a future untethered jailbreak, as the cat and mouse game between Apple and the jailbreak community carries on...

iPhone Dev Team Successfully Ports Untethered Jailbreak Back to 4.1 SHSH Blobs

Late last month, the iPhone Dev Team officially released their jailbreak “backup plan”, which was released because Comex was not able to meet his Christmas ETA. The new jailbreak method, called “Jailbreak Monte” used your saved iOS 4.2b3 SHSH blobs to give your iDevice the first untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.2.1.

The method required you to have an Apple developer account to get a hold of the 4.2 beta 3 IPSW (although the firmware could be pirated, the iPhone Dev Team is strictly against piracy).

Sunday, via Twitter @MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team announced that the untethered jailbreak Monte has been successfully ported back to the 4.1 kernel (SHSH blobs) for iOS 4.2.1.This means that you will now be able to use your saved iOS 4.1 SHSH blobs to get an untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.2.1...

iOS 4.3 Must Be Close as App Updates Featuring AirPlay Support Begin Appearing

Matt Gallagher -- the creator of StreamToMe -- is always on top of his game when it comes to app updates. Thus, the reason for StreamToMe's iOS 4.3-compatible App Store update could all be owed to his proactive nature.

Or it could be that iOS 4.3 is really just that close to an official deployment and release.

Why is this good news? Not only will it allow 3rd party apps to utilize AirPlay, which is awesome, it also provides promise for those waiting for an iPhone 4 unlock...
