Apple to Thai government: next phone may not even be called iPhone 6

Soon after a Thai official tweeted that Thailand approved two new iPhone models for use in the country, Apple sent a few executives from South Asia to speak with Takorn Tantasith, the secretary of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), concerning the leak.

Although the Thai government's disclosure contained nothing more than the mention of the model numbers "A1524" and "A1586," as well as "iPhone 6," that apparently was enough to anger Apple into sending executives to reprimand Thai officials for releasing the information...

In late-July, a claimed iPhone 6 circuit board leaked on the web. As it lacked the actual chips (it only showed the pin layout), it left watchers guessing as to whether the handset might include much-rumored NFC capability for a rumored Apple-branded mobile payment service.

Today, a photo purportedly showing a fully assembled logic board of the iPhone 6 has surfaced. Published by a Taiwanese blog, it reveals several semiconductor components such as a Toshiba flash chip and a Wi-Fi module...

As production for the iPhone 6 begins to ramp up ahead of next month's unveiling, we're starting to see more and more part leaks for the highly anticipated handset. We've seen several over the last few days, and this afternoon, new photos of alleged components surfaced.

This latest batch gives us a close-up look at what is said to be the front panel and display assembly for the 4.7-inch model of the iPhone 6, with its very clearly tapered edges. The photos also show the new Power button, which is expected to be relocated, and its Mute Switch...

Thailand certifies two unreleased iPhone models

As the iPhone 6 enters the Product Validation Testing stage, typically a final step before full blown mass production ahead of the big reveal on September 9, news comes that regulators in Thailand have now approved two distinctly new iPhone models for use in the country.

One of the approved devices carries a model number of 'A1524'. The other is labeled as 'A1586'.

Apple is of course expected to release two new iPhone 6 models come this Fall, one with a 4.7-inch display and the other featuring a phablet-class screen measuring 5.5 inches diagonally...

According to a Chinese source, Apple's iPhone 6 has now entered the so-called Product Validation Test phase, indicating that mass production is looming around the corner.

Product Validation Test, or PVT, is typically carried out on first engineering prototypes in order to ensure that the basic unit performs to Apple's exacting design goals and specifications.

Apple along with its favorite contract manufacturer, Taiwan-based Foxconn, is now reportedly producing a very limited run of iPhone 6 units for a final quality control. During this phase, the assembly lines are running at full speed to detect any potential issues that may hinder the assembly process and ensure that quality control standards have been properly implemented ahead of mass production...

Although everyone's favorite parts leaker, Australia-born Sonny Dickson, has remained mostly mum in terms of iPhone 6 component leaks this year, Tuesday morning he took to Twitter to share high-resolution photos of an alleged iPhone 6 rear shell which seem to match up nicely with the leaks we recently saw.

In addition to the antenna breaks at the top and the bottom replacing the glass cutouts seen on the iPhone 5/5s, the images appear to depict an iPod touch-style protruding lens for the device. Also clearly visible on the photos: a circular dual-LED flash module that Apple calls 'True Tone' flash...

Virtually every major leak pertaining to Apple's upcoming iPhone 6 has depicted a round flash hole on the back rather than the pill-shaped opening seen on the iPhone 5s.

In turn, several watchers have speculated that Apple may have abandoned True Tone flash altogether and switched back to the inferior single LED flash design.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

True Tone flash is part of the iPhone 5s's improved camera performance. Can anyone in their right mind say that Apple engineers would be willing to forgo dual-LED flash design and therefore sacrifice better highlights and more natural-looking skin tones?

I consistently argued Apple must have instead found a way to engineer a round dual-LED flash. Indeed. Lo and behold, among a plethora of purported part leaks published earlier this morning by a French blog is a component featuring both white and amber LED lights packaged together in a round-shaped part...

Claimed photos showing fully assembled iPhone 6 faceplate surface

A Taiwanese blog has posted a series of images that allegedly picture fully assembled black and white faceplate options for a rumored 4.7-inch iPhone 6 variant.

The images offer perhaps the best depiction of the upcoming Apple handset thus far. The fully assembled 4.7-inch panel is shown off along with flex cables, mounting structures and cover glass.

As a quick reminder, the iPhone 6 should be unveiled alongside its bigger 5.5-inch counterpart at a media event on September 9.

Earlier this morning, we published a treasure trove of leaked part images that seemingly hint at the embedded Apple logo on the back, a protruding iPod touch-style rear camera and the slightly recessed volume button cutouts along the edges...

Several photographs of claimed iPhone 6 parts have led Apple bloggers to frantically speculate that a logo cutout on the rear would allow for a MacBook-style illumination serving as a notification light of sorts for missed calls, important messages and what not.

We even ran a poll asking whether the iPhone 6 should include a lit Apple logo on the rear and more than three out of each four respondents voted 'yes'.

Time for a reality check. If numerous photographs of supposed iPhone 6 parts that have leaked recently are anything to go by, this doesn’t seem to be the case after all...
