60beat’s $50 iOS GamePad Controller Brings the Console Experience to Mobile

iOS is growing to be a major player in the gaming space. When you are selling as many iPhones and iPads as Apple is, not to mention iPod touches, then it is almost an inevitability that your own App Store is going to become a mecca for all manner of games.

With its touch-based interface and huge screen, the iPad in particular has become something of a giant in the mobile gaming world, but the same touch screen that is is biggest strength can also be its biggest weakness. That's why this new accessory really caught our eye.

Coming from accessory company 60beat, this new controller gives gamers a more familiar way of controlling their games. If iOS gaming is to truly take over, then there needs to be a natural way to play traditional games, and that natural way involves a couple of thumbsticks and some hardware buttons.

This isn't the first time that Apple's Find my iPhone service has helped to recover a lost device, but with Christmas involved in this particular story (as well as a resoundingly happy ending) we thought we would share it.

At around 3:30am on Christmas morning, a Westlake Village man was awoken by the noise of a burglar stealing Christmas gifts from his house. Amongst them was an iPad, which had, thankfully, already been activated and set up with an Apple ID. After a short foot chase the thief got away, but not for long.

The next morning, the owner of the iPad set about tracking the device and discovered that it was only a few doors away...

Rumor: Apple to Release Two iPads in 2012, Better Battery Life Expected

An interesting rumor from overseas publication Digitimes this evening claims knowledge of Apple's iPad plans for 2012. The sometimes-accurate publication reports that Apple is planning to unveil two iPad models at once next year during the Macworld|iWorld conference in January.

Apple allegedly has two iPads for the low-end and high-end consumer markets, with the latter model boasting double the battery life of the iPad 2. This isn't the first time we've heard such claims, but this new report seems questionable.

By now you've probably read our earlier report that there is finally an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1. This is thanks to the amazing work of iOS hacker pod2g, but also thanks to GeoHot, who found some of these exploits a while back.

Tizi Turns an iPhone into a Siri-Powered iPad Remote

Some things still blow our minds, even with so much great technology and gadgetry being released every day. It takes a lot, but sometimes we just can't help bit sit there and say "wow, that's pretty cool." Tizi and the Tizi Remote app is one such situation.

Tizi is Germany's answer to Slingbox, allowing over-the-air content to be streamed to just about anything, including an iPad using the Tizi accessory. As if that wasn't cool enough, the company has now also released an app that allows an iPhone to act as a remote control for the iPad app, complete with Siri-powered voice control.

More Evidence Points to February iPad 3 Launch

We've been hearing rumors over the past few weeks that Apple is looking to launch its next-generation tablet in February of next year. The most recent chatter even points to a specific date — February 24 (Steve Jobs' birthday).

A February iPad 3 release is certainly feasible. The original iPad launched in April of 2010, and the iPad 2 debuted in March 2011. We've just uncovered more evidence that lends weight to the theory that the next iPad is coming in two months...
