App Picks of the Week: Ego, Shorelines, Mega Man X

It’s that time of the week! We frequently comb the far reaches of the App Store to bring you awesome apps for your downloading pleasure.

This week, we’ve got a tool for tracking your online presence, a little holiday cheer, and a SNES classic game. We hope you enjoy this week’s picks!

Ego

Ego is a useful tool for tracking your online presence, whether it be on a social network or website, in one place. This sleek and elegant app offers you quick facts about your online analytics and followers, while the iPad version of Ego gives you more details, like the ability to reply to mentions on Twitter, see Google Analytics referring sources, etc.

The app integrates with Ember, Feedburner, Google Analytics, Mint, Squarespace, Tumblr, Twitter, and Vimeo to give you a dashboard-like view of your stats. Instead of having to login into a bunch of websites or use different apps to see separate reports from Google Analytics and Squarespace, you can see it all in Ego.

Ego for iPhone is a great buy for $1.99 in the App Store. If you have an iPad, you may be interested in just downloading the iPad-only version for $2.99, as it has more features.

Shorelines

It’s the holiday season, and some of us aren’t lucky enough to have snow. If you miss the beauty that is falling snow, you may want to check out Shorelines. The app offers beautiful winter scenes with snow, mist, and trees.

Shorelines is a little gimmicky, but it’s got some neat features, like the ability to tilt your iOS device and watch the snow fall in the direction of gravity. Shaking your iOS device will cause the app to shake the snow off the tree branches.

This app is basically just a screensaver for your iPhone or iPad, but it’s downright beautiful. The animations are gorgeous, and you cant beat the price of free in the App Store.

Mega Man X

Another SNES classic has hit the App Store, and this time it’s Mega Man. Capcom has released Mega Man X for iOS with updated visuals and fluid gameplay.

If you remember playing Mega Man, then you’ll know that the game takes precision. The task of making Mega Man enjoyable on the iPhone’s 3.5-inch screen isn’t an easy one, but Capcom seems to have done a pretty good job. The same music and sound effects from the original are still in the iOS version, and the game is fun to play for nostalgia’s sake alone.

You can buy Mega Man X as a universal download for $4.99 in the App Store.

That’s it for this week’s picks. Let us know what you think of these apps in the comments below!
