Sun is an awesome new weather web app for iOS

Developers are doing some downright amazing things with HTML5 as a late, and Sun is just the latest example of the ongoing trend.

First noted by 9to5 Mac, Sun is an HTML5 based web app for weather forecasts. It can handle up to 4 different cities at once, including a city based on your current location.

For fans of Clear — the popular task app for the iPhone, you'll feel immediately at home with Sun, because it too relies on simple gestures for navigation.

Needless to say, I came away mighty impressed with Sun. I've always said that one way to tell a good web app is if you can't tell it's a web app. With Sun, you'd be hard pressed to do so...

Homescreen.me lets you share your iOS device setup with the world

After nearly five months of cutting through red tap, Apple finally launched its third-generation iPad in mainland China today. To much surprise, the tablet made a quiet landing, with only a handful of shoppers in lines spotted around the country's signature Apple Stores.

The lack of noise can probably be attributed to Apple's pre-registration system. In an effort to avoid the chaotic scenes of previous product launches, the company restricted new iPad purchases to pre-order only. But it could also be because many fans already have the tablet...

NotiPad makes its way to Cydia

NotiPad — the Growl inspired tweak for the iPad — has just appeared on Cydia's BigBoss repo for $1.00. The iPad exclusive tweak replaces the standard banner notifications in favor of Growl styled pop up notifications.

There are a variety of different options built in with NotiPad, including the ability to alter the animations, and switch the side of the iPad's screen that the notifications appear on.

Poll: how do you feel about Sparrow now?

Sparrow for iPhone debuted in February of 2011 and remains to date known as a kick-ass email client for both desktop and mobile. Those that love Sparrow appreciate its best-in-class Gmail support, clean and minimalistic interface and just the right set of features.

But Sparrow got snapped up by the Internet giant Google today (looks like this is becoming somewhat of a pattern for Google). From what we know so far, the Sparrow development team will be “working on new things at Google” and they "do not plan to release new features for the Sparrow apps".

This likely means 'no' to the promised iPad version and another 'no' to push alerts for incoming messages. It's assumably a sad day for Sparrow die-hards, so I just put together a little poll to gauge your feelings on the subject of today's unexpected acquisition...

iPad 3 makes a quiet landing in China

As promised, Apple today began selling its Retina iPad in China, having paved the way for the long-awaited launch with a recent $60 million trademark settlement with the struggling Chinese monitor vendor ProView.

News reports describe the launch as low-key, lacking the usual long lines and media frenzy like elsewhere. Apple is also seen taking additional steps to fight scalpers with an imposed three-hour window for reservations...

Doodle puts an end to meeting scheduling nightmares

Among a myriad of things I despise, trying to plan a meeting with several busy people is a nightmare. All of the back-and-forth emails about who is in town, or not, or who can meet after lunch, before lunch, catch me after the staff meeting... Yikes!

Fox films now available for re-download via iTunes in the Cloud

Earlier today, Apple rolled out iTunes Match, and movies for iTunes in the Cloud, to a number of new countries. And it looks like it's still not finished with the updates.

Tonight, reports are coming in that Fox movies are finally showing up in the Purchased tab of iTunes, meaning that users can now re-download them via iCloud...

After months of waiting, Apple's third-generation iPad is going to go on sale in mainland China tomorrow. But don't expect overnight campouts or long lines. Word is that Apple has implemented a pre-register buying system to handle tomorrow's tablets sales.

And you can't blame them. Especially after what happened back in January at the iPhone 4S launch in Beijing. As you may recall, an Apple Store was forced to close down due to a mob of angry shoppers. But Apple has a plan this time to avoid the crowds...
