Sparrow push notifications reportedly working for some users? [Updated]

It looks like the folks at Sparrow have started to enable push notifications for a handful of users. Perhaps this is a part of a larger rollout?

YouTube personality Duncan33303 has reported that push notifications are now working on his 1.1 installation of Sparrow, as have others.

According to a blog post on Sparrow's website, the push update was supposed to be available in the next released of Sparrow, that being version 1.2. It appears, however, that the developers of the highly popular Mail app alternative may have included code in the 1.1 update to make push notifications work without the need for Apple's approval...

Sparrow, once only a third-party email client for the Mac, landed on iOS last month with a splash. The $2.99 software provides users with an excellent alternative to the native Mail option.

Well the app received an update today, bringing it to version 1.1. It includes a handful of new additions and features, and the developers say that more is on the way...

Earlier we reported that a new jailbreak tweak was on its way to Cydia to enable push notifications in Sparrow. That tweak has finally touched down on Cydia's BigBoss repo for free, and we've taken it for a thorough spin.

Sparrow for iPhone would surely file as a dream come true for mobile email addicts if it weren't for its lack of push notifications for incoming email messages, as we noted in our video review. Enter Sparrow Push, a handy little Cydia tweak for jailbroken devices that adds this useful feature to the otherwise awesome email client.

Once installed, Sparrow Push will enable notifications for incoming email messages even when the program is in the background, allowing you to stay on top of important email messages as they hit the server...

iOS' stock email app is lacking in the user experience area, and the folks behind Sparrow have successfully capitalized on the default app's shortcomings.

Unfortunately, while it succeeds with flying colors in a multitude of areas where the Mail app stumbles, it's still not quite ready for primetime due to a few essential issues.

‘FastStatus’ lets you tweet, text, and email using Activator

With everything going the route of iOS 5's Notification Center, we're seeing less and less tweaks that use Activator as a means for invoking, but FastStatus bucks that trend.
