Apple turning to Chinese suppliers for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus batteries

Tuesday, a fresh new report claimed Apple's been seeking additional battery providers for upcoming new iPhones, presumed to be marketed as ‘iPhone 6s’ and ‘iPhone 6s Plus’.

Apple is now sourcing more batteries for iOS devices from Chinese suppliers which have caught up with their Taiwanese competitors in terms of sufficient battery core supply and production capacity.

Apple, A123 Systems settling lawsuit over battery engineer poaching

Apple and A123 Systems, maker of advanced batteries, submitted a court filing this week saying they are nearing a settlement regarding their engineer poaching lawsuit, reports the Boston Globe. They've "reached an agreement, signed a term sheet, and are in the process of drafting a final agreement."

The lawsuit made headlines earlier this year, when A123 claimed that Apple was hiring away its top scientists and engineers to build a competing battery business. The news broke amidst reports that the Cupertino firm had taken an interest in electric cars, and had begun work on larger battery packs.

Mophie introduces new waterproof battery case for iPhone 6

On Tuesday, California-based accessory maker Mophie announced its first ever waterproof battery cased called the "Juice Pack H2PROTM." The case is made for the iPhone 6, and features a durable design to protect against drops, dust, dirt and of course, water damage.

The battery pack included in the case is of the 2,750mAh lithium-ion variety, which will allow users to enjoy up to 14 hours of additional talk time, 10 hours of web browsing and 50 hours of music. Mophie says overall, the H2PROTM more than doubles iPhone battery life.

How to check remaining battery life on Apple Watch

Although battery life has been much better than most anticipated with Apple Watch, you should still expect a day or, at tops, a day and a half of battery life after a full charge. For that reason, it's pretty important to keep a close eye on your Apple Watch battery throughout the day, especially if you decide to use battery hogging functions like phone calls and the workout app.

Fortunately, Apple makes it super easy to monitor battery life on Apple Watch. In fact, it's more verbose than it is on the iPhone since the watch shows you the full battery percentage by default. Inside, we'll show you two easy ways to monitor battery life on Apple Watch.

Is Apple Watch draining your iPhone’s battery too fast? This may help

Contrary to popular belief, the Apple Watch has a pretty remarkable battery, a notion driven home by even the toughest of critics and reviewers.

Now that first shipments have arrived into the hands of consumers, and people have spent a day or two with their device, reports are coming in that the wearable device is in some cases dramatically draining the battery of an iPhone it's paired to.

Our own Oliver Haslam has underscored the phenomenon in his hands-on with the Watch based on his first 24 hours with the device, as did others including former Engadget editor Ryan Block. What gives?

Apple Watch battery retains up to 80% of its original capacity at 1,000 complete charge cycles

The battery inside the Apple Watch will retain up to eighty percent of its original capacity at a full one-thousand charge cycles before its capacity starts depleting further, as revealed on the Batteries section of Apple's website.

In terms of daily use, the battery of any Apple Watch model will last up to eighteen hours based on mixed usage, as per Apple's official data.

In addition, you'll get up to 72 hours on a single charge if you run the device in Power Reserve mode. Pitting the Apple Watch battery against that inside the iPad, iPhone and MacBook reveals quite a technological achievement for such a comparatively small package.

i-Blason UnityPower for iPhone 6 charges while protecting

One thing I always have to remember when heading out for a day trip is to bring an external battery pack. I take a lot of pictures and videos, which always negatively affects the length of time my battery lasts.

The i-Blason UnityPower is a case that houses an external battery, so you can always have an extra charge with you, wherever you go. It is also MFi certified, so it is guaranteed to work with your iPhone 6, even after software updates.

Lithium: theme the battery indicator on iOS 8 sans WinterBoard

Lithium is a brand new jailbreak tweak that adds a themed battery indicator to iOS 8. A similar tweak with a similar name, Alkaline, already exists on the Cydia store, and Lithium pretty much replicates the feeling of that tweak.

While some users report that Alkaline works perfectly on their iOS 8 device, it's never worked without a visual glitch on my iPhone 6 Plus. For that reason, I'd be up for trying Lithium on an extended basis.

Apple confirms Watch battery is replaceable

Although Apple did not mention it during yesterday's “Spring Forward” media event, the Apple Watch has a completely replaceable battery, an Apple spokesperson told TechCrunch.

That's about all we know as the publication couldn't determine how much it will cost to send in your Watch to Apple and have it returned with a new battery in place.

Apple Watch battery life: here are the official details

Now that Apple has shared full details concerning its highly-anticipated Watch devices, which goes on sale in the United Stated and eight major international markets on April 24, starting at $349, the Cupertino company has posted additional details regarding its “all-day”18-hour battery.

Of course, the advertised battery life depends on how you use your Watch. If you're just going to do things like checking the time, receiving notifications, using apps and doing a 30-minute workout, the battery should last up to eighteen hours before needing to be charged again overnight.

Here is what Apple had to say about the Watch's battery performance.

‘Reserve Strap’ aims to extend the battery life of your Apple Watch

One of the biggest public concerns regarding the Apple Watch seems to be its battery life. While other smartwatches, such as the Pebble, claim life of up to 10 days, the Cupertino wearable is said to last for less than 24 hours.

But John Arrow and ex-Nike staffer Lane Musgrave are looking to change that with the 'Reserve Strap.' It features embedded lithium polymer cells and an inductive charging cradle to keep your Apple Watch going strong.
