Apple TV Bluetooth Support Could Mean App Store is on its Way

The Apple TV has always had one glaring downfall: there's no bluetooth support. Up until now you had to jailbreak the Apple TV to obtain this feature, but it looks like that could change this Fall.

9to5Mac is reporting that iOS 5 contains hidden code (above) that enables bluetooth in the Apple TV2. While the new function is more than likely for connecting bluetooth keyboards, it does suggest that Apple could have bigger things in store for their TV set-top box...

China Telecom Will Offer iPhone Before Year’s End

China Telecom, a carrier in the world's largest mobile market, plans to offer the iPhone before the end of this year. Rumors are that Apple has been talking behind closed doors with China Telecom execs for months about bringing the iPhone to the Chinese market, and Apple's acting CEO, Tim Cook, was recently spotted at China Mobile HQ.

It's unclear as to when China Telecom will sell the iPhone exactly, but it's expected that we'll see Apple's flagship device on the carrier by at least December...

AT&T Memo Hints at an October 4th iPhone 5 Launch Date

If you think iPhone rumors are bad now, just wait until we get into August and September. Until Apple unveils its next smartphone, the entire tech industry is in a game of "guess what and when" for Apple's next announcement.

While the answer to the first question seems to vary depending on who you ask, most folks tend to agree that the device will launch sometime this Fall. Now the exact date is anybody's guess, but 9to5Mac just received an interesting tip that could suggest we'll see the new iPhone launch on October 4th...

Witricity: Could This be the Way Future iDevices Charge?

A few days ago, we mentioned that The Wall Street Journal and other publications were noting that Apple was working on a new way to charge iDevices. From the details, it sounded like some form of inductive method, similar to Palm's Touchstone charger.

However, MacRumors has discovered something interesting in a recently-revealed patent application that suggests the Cupertino company might be going a different route. Have you ever heard of WiTricity?

Apple’s Two New iPhone Ads: FaceTime and AirPlay

In an attempt to get even more iPhone 4s shipped out the door before the supposed iPhone 5/4S release later this year, Apple has released two new ads, showing off two of the handset's marquee features.

Apple's iconic iPhone ads are no doubt on a par with the much-loved 'Get a Mac' ads, and the two new additions follow the same theme....

Apple Steps Up Enterprise Marketing as RIM Self-Destructs

There were 2 major arenas that RIM had all to itself for the better part of a decade, and that was the government and enterprise users. And why wouldn't they? BlackBerries were secure and had a solid email system- it seemed like a no-brainer.

It looks like years of falling behind the curve, among other mistakes, have cost RIM their place at the top in those 2 markets. We've already seen the U.S. government drop their aging BlackBerries in favor of iPhones, and now it looks like Apple is prepared to move onto the enterprise space...

Happy 3rd Birthday, App Store

On this very day back in 2008, Steve Jobs announced the App Store. It was the day before the iPhone 3G launch, and nobody, perhaps not even Jobs himself, could foresee the amazing successes the App Store would have collected in the coming years.

I don’t want to bore you by saying how many apps were available and downloaded at any given moment, so I’ll just point out the most important ciphers. At the time of its launch, only 500 apps were available for download, but not even a year later, in April 2009, the number had increased to 35,000, with more than one billion downloads...

Apple Forced to Pay Personal Audio $8 Million Over iPod Patent

Apple is no stranger to the courtroom these days; with patents, copyright claims, and counterclaims becoming as closely related to the Cupertino outfit as its iconic iPods.

Ironically, though, it seems that those very same iPods have landed Apple in trouble this time around, with the company being forced to stump up $8 million to a company that claims the iPod infringes on its patents...

Apple Store iPad Display Gets Jailbroken [Video]

Comex's new exploit is easily the best jailbreaking tool ever developed. Not only is it much faster than previous methods, it's as easy to use as downloading an app.

Another reason JailbreakMe comes out on top is that you don't need a computer to run the software. Everything is done from the device. This creates an interesting dynamic for jailbreaking, because now you can do it almost anywhere. Even in an Apple Store...

Interesting Theory: Next iPod Touch to Come with 3G

Ok, for those of you that made it past the oh-no-not-again rumor-esque title, I have an interesting theory to throw your way. No, this isn't another article regarding next-gen iPhone rumors, though it is undoubtedly related.

9to5Mac passed along an intriguing report coming from a Dutch publication known as AppleSpot. The blog is claiming that Apple is looking to change the handheld electronics market again this fall, by adding 3G data connectivity to their iPod Touch line. I know this must sound crazy, but humor me for a minute...

iPad Link Clicking Patterns Prove it’s a Whole New Device Category

When Apple first announced the magical and revolutionary iPad back in early 2010, Steve Jobs made a point of saying that the new device was a category on its own - filling a gap between the smartphone and laptop computer.

This niche made ReadWriteWeb wonder if iPad usage is actually any different to that of traditional computers, such as, laptops and desktop machines. Do users tend to use iPads at different times of day, or does usage change over the weekend?

The results, gleaned by studying a week's worth of Bitly click data, make an interesting read, and it turns out that yes, we do use our tablet devices differently....

Patent Suggests New ‘File Sharing Gestures’ Coming to iOS

Apple is known for registering patents for everything they think of, just in case it becomes useful, or indeed feasible, at a later date.

A new patent to come out of Cupertuno suggests the company is working on a new way of sharing files between devices, similar to the way HP's new TouchPad and accompanying smartphones do.

The HP way involves touching the two devices together in order to initiate the connection and subsequent transfer of files and data. If that sounds familiar, it's because the whole process is very similar to contact sharing app, Bump.

What Apple's patent suggests, is a more metaphorical way of establishing the connection...
