Prism adds a visualizer to the stock Music app in iOS 8.4

Want to feel more connected to your music? Prism, a new visualizer jailbreak tweak for the iOS 8.4 Music app, can help you do just that.

Not only does the Prism visualizer work with the music that you have stored locally on device, but it also works with Apple Music if you happen to subscribe to Apple's recently launched streaming music service.

Apple and Dr. Dre address the rapper’s contentious past

Apple and Beats co-founder Dr. Dre released statements on Friday regarding the rapper's contentious past. With the recent opening of the film "Straight Outta Compton," which tells the origin story of Dre's hip-hop group N.W.A., several questions have arisen regarding abuse allegations from the 1990's.

During the decade, Dr. Dre was accused of assaulting several women, including his girlfriend at the time and former television host Denise "Dee" Barnes. Since its debut, members of the media have been questioning why the events were missing from the Compton film, and today, Dre commented on the matter.

Study suggests that one in ten iOS users listens to Apple Music

Roughly one in ten iOS users is listening to Apple Music, according to a new research study conducted by MusicWatch. The company, which provides consumer research for the music industry, collected data from the surveys of 5,000 U.S. consumers, aged 13 and older.

According to the research, a little over three quarters (77%) of iOS users in the United States are aware of Apple Music. Only 11%, however, of the group surveyed said they are actually using the service, and 48% of those who have tried it out said they are no longer using it.

Apple Music Festival running September 19-28 in London with Pharrell Williams and other headliners

The iTunes Music Festival, an annual 30-day event hosted and organized by Apple, is back this year in a bit changed form. Taking advantage of the buzz surrounding Apple Music, the event is now called Apple Music Festival and will run 10 consecutive nights at London’s Roundhouse, starting on September 19.

“Apple hosted the iTunes Festival in London for eight years, and now in honor of the launch of Apple Music, has renamed the event the Apple Music Festival,” explains the iPhone maker.

According to Apple, some of the headline acts include Pharrell Williams, One Direction, Florence + The Machine and Disclosure.

Apple posts three new Apple Music ads to YouTube

One week after posting the latest "If it's not an iPhone" advertisement to YouTube, Apple is back with three brand new ads that all center around its recently launched Apple Music service.

In the first ad, aptly named Discovery, several Apple Music features are touted—the fact that you have nearly every song and album available at your finger tips, the listener and artist discovery aspects, radio, and more.

In that spot and the others, several known artists and up and coming artists are highlighted, which makes Apple's tagline—All the artists you love and are about to love—even more relevant.

Apple releases iTunes 12.2 with Beats 1 and Apple Music fixes and enhancements

In addition to releasing the iOS 8.4.1 software update for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad with Apple Music fixes and enhancements, and the OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 software update with a crucial patch for the dangerous DYLD exploit and more, Apple today also posted a new version of iTunes with a bunch of fixes and improvements.

Among other things, iTunes 12.2 for Mac and Windows contains improvements for Beats 1, Apple Music and Connect features while fixing a few issues with the software.

Apple releases iOS 8.4.1: here is what’s new

Apple just released iOS 8.4.1 to the public. If you're jailbroken, it's highly recommended that you stay away from this update. We'll post an update once we have details of what the iOS 8.4.1 release contains, but rumors have swirled for weeks that it may fix the exploits used for the latest iOS 8.3 and iOS 8.4 jailbreak.

So far, we have not found any indication that this is so, but hold off just in case if you're interested in jailbreaking. If you're not interested in jailbreaking, feel free to update.

This was the most played music on Beats 1 last month

As Apple and its executives continue to point out, what sets Beats 1 apart from other streaming radio services is its human curation. Instead of software algorithms, Beats 1 features real-life DJs that play whatever song they are feeling at any given moment.

But that doesn't mean you won't hear music get repeated. Quartz tracked the Beats 1 playlist throughout the month of July, and according to its data, out of 12,445 songs, only 3,371 were unique. This means that each song was played an average of 3.7 times.

Why are iTunes Store music links now redirecting to Apple Music?

It appears that Apple has changed the way iTunes Store music links work. Instead of opening the corresponding artist, song or album pages in the iTunes Store application on the iPhone, iPod touch or iPad (or the iTunes Store section within desktop iTunes), these links now redirect to the Apple Music section in the stock Music app or within desktop iTunes, as first reported by Kirk McElhearn.

Jimmy Iovine talks Apple Music, Taylor Swift and more in new interview

Newly-acquired Apple executive Jimmy Iovine sat down with Evening Standard's Jimi Famurewa to talk about Apple Music this week. As you'd imagine, the former record label chairman-turned-Beats-co-founder has a lot to say about Apple's new streaming service.

Perhaps one of the most interesting tidbits from the interview have to do with Taylor Swift's infamous open letter to Apple. Iovine says that he woke up to the letter early that Sunday morning and immediately hopped on the phone to try and get the issue sorted out.

Apple confirms 11 million Apple Music signups

Ending weeks of speculation, Apple on Thursday at last gave us a number: Apple Music has signed up eleven million people for its three-month free trial, one month after the new music service debuted. The number was officially revealed by Eddy Cue, Apple's Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services in a statement to USA Today, who said "We're thrilled with the numbers so far."

How to replay a Beats 1 DJ’s entire show, including commentary

Beats 1 is a great, but what if you're not available to listen to your favorite DJ's show at the time it initially airs? Good news: Beats 1 nowallows users to replay entire shows.

Since Beat 1's inception, it's always been possible to replay a DJ's playlist, but being able to replay an entire show, complete with commentary, wasn't possible. Thanks to the recent change, this is no longer the case.

Users can now easily replay a show from their favorite DJ just by following a few steps. Admittedly, the steps aren't as straightforward as one might expect from a company that prides itself on dead-simple usage, but it seems to be a running theme with iTunes and the Music app to make things more muddled than need be.
