Instagram update removes option to share likes and activity to Facebook

Instagram updated its iOS client last night, bringing the app to version 5.0.11. The update is small—the change log only mentions one alteration—but significant, as it takes away the auto-sharing of activity to Facebook.

More specifically, users will now only be able to share images deliberately to Facebook using the in-app share button. So the change should go a long way in decluttering News Feeds, a common complaint amongst users...

iTunes Connect app updated with new design for iOS 7

Continuing with its wave of updates today, Apple has posted a new build of iTunes Connect for iOS. The update brings the app to version 3.0, and includes a long-awaited UI redesign in-line with the new look of iOS 7.

For those unfamiliar with iTunes Connect, it's what allows developers to access sales data for their apps and e-books. And with today's update, artists can now use the app to access data for moves and other media as well...

Apple updates Podcasts app with Siri integration, CarPlay support and more

Following big updates for Mac OS X and iTunes, Apple has this afternoon published an update for its iOS Podcasts client. The update brings the app to version 2.1, and includes a handful of new features and improvements.

Among the new features are Siri integration and support for CarPlay. Users can now ask Siri to play specific podcasts by simply saying 'play' and then the name of the podcast file, and control the app using a CarPlay vehicle...

iTunes 11.2 hits: improves podcast browsing, fixes Genius unresponsiveness and more

To go along with the just-released OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 Software Update, Apple has also issued a second major update to iTunes 11. The new version 11.2 is now available for download and includes several improvements to the in-app podcast browsing experience.

For starters, there are now all-new Unplayed and Feed tabs which collate episodes you haven't listened to yet and new ones that have become available.

Foursquare updated ahead of Swarm app launch

Foursquare, the popular location-based social platform, is set to release a brand new Swarm app today which will "help people keep up and meet up with their friends".

As a result, the existing free iOS client has just been updated with some changes you should know about. Announced two weeks ago, Swarm combines new mayorships, introduces stickers, offers detailed insights about your life and much more.

Shazam updated with new results page, Line integration and more

Shazam updated its mobile app this afternoon, bringing the iOS client to version 7.6. The update brings about a handful of improvements for the song ID software, including a new results page and support for LINE messaging.

The new results page makes for a better experience while 'shazaming' TV shows, as you'll now be able to see a full cast list, as well as catch up on story lines and gossip. And you can then share those new results via the LINE app...

Facebook app gains offline posts, drafts/previews and snappier News Feed

Facebook has issued a major version 10.0 update to its free iOS client which now allows you to create posts even when you're without an Internet connection. Posts created in the offline mode will be saved as drafts and the app will automatically publish them when you're back online.

Moreover, the refreshed iPhone and iPad application now makes it easy to see what your posts will look like on Facebook before publishing.

Presentation Mode is now available in Evernote

Evernote, the hugely successful note-taking and productivity platform, today rolled out a new Presentation Mode to its mobile and desktop apps across Mac, Windows, iPhone and iPad devices.

Presentation mode allows you to connect your computer to an external monitor or projector to present your notes in style as beautiful full-screen scrollable layouts.

And if you're using Evernote for iOS, AirPlay will wirelessly beam the presentation to an external display through Apple's $99 Apple TV media-streaming box...

Google Search 4.0 is out with several Google Now improvements

Google today released an update for its popular Google Search app. The update brings the iOS client to version 4.0, and includes a number of improvements to the Google Now feature such as support for smarter conversations and faster load times.

With smarter conversations, users can now ask follow-up questions to their originally search queries. So for example, if you ask Google Now what the weather is like, you can follow that up with: 'what about tomorrow?' or 'how about this weekend?'

Castro podcast app gains better audio, continuous play, sleep timer, crisper UI and more

The high-fidelity Castro podcast player for the iPhone and iPod touch debuted last December and today got bumped to version 1.1. Despite the incremental change in version number, developers have added numerous new capabilities and refinements that will improve upon your already top-notch Castro experience.

There's now a new continuous play feature for episodic listening, a sleep timer, vastly improved audio quality of slow-speed playback, rich new options inside in-app settings, a cleaner user interface with nicer typography and much more.

Sonos revamps iOS app, adds tons of new features

Sonos has introduced a major new version of its app which allows you to control your Sonos hardware using an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.

Following the release of a redesigned Android app earlier in the year, Sonos has now refreshed its iOS counterpart with a revamped user interface, while adding dozens of new features, refinements and enhancements.

The all-new Sonos 5.0, in addition to the flattened interface, now supports VoiceOver (on iOS 7 devices only), lets you use the included Universal Search feature to search multiple music services at once (Google Play Music, MLB, Beats Music, Shuffler.fm and others) and more.
