Starborn Anarkist proves that recycling really pays off

This article isn’t about how important I think it is that consumers reduce their excessive use of plastic, paper, and glass. I’m not going to get on my soapbox and tell you that you should be composting your leftovers. I am talking about recycling, but not in the way you may think.

Starborn Anarkist is a dual stick shooter that features an intergalactic garbage collector who has finally flipped his lid. Players go on a laser-guided rampage, destroying every ship in sight. Then, use the debris from your destruction to upgrade your ship and show those waste-makers how to take out the trash (these puns are just getting out of hand)...

Viber announces new ‘Viber Out’ feature for making low-cost outgoing calls

Popular VoIP and messaging service Viber announced today the release of version 4.1 of its mobile app for Android and iPhone. The update includes the full global launch of Viber Out, a new feature that allows users to make low-cost calls to any mobile or landline phone number.

The service uses credit that can be purchased through in-app purchases, or via credit card, and the minutes can be used on Android, iOS or your desktop. It's actually a lot like how Skype works, except it looks like Viber's rates are much lower and it won't charge connection fees...

Apple updates ’12 Days of Gifts’ app for 2013 holiday season, opens it to US users

You know it's getting close to Christmas time when outlets start publishing gift guides, and Apple updates its '12 Days of Gifts' application. The 2013 version of Apple's free-download-a-day app went live this evening, ahead of its December 26 kickoff.

Folks in European countries have become accustom to this yearly ritual, but it's never been available to those of us here in the US. I'm happy to announce, though, that this year, Apple has finally opened up the program to iOS users in the United States...

Tank Domination rumbles through the App Store

When I was a little kid, I “played tanks.” That is, I drew a picture of a tank on one side of a blank piece of paper, and then drew another tank on the other side. Then, I’d “pew, pew, pew” as I drew dotted lies across the page, finishing with a nice, scribbly “ka-ploosh” as my Crayola-based ammunitions struck the armored vehicles.

Tank Domination is sort of like playing tanks. Except the paper is an iPad, the Crayola drawings are high-definition graphics, and the “pew, pew, pew” is awesome explosions that look so real it will melt your face off…

There are now 1 million apps available in the US App Store

During its October iPad event, Apple announced that it had crossed the 1 million app milestone in its worldwide App Store. This meant that, not counting duplicates, it had over 1 million apps available around the globe at that time.

This week, Apple passed the same milestone here in its US App Store. According to data from app discovery firm Appsfire, there are now more than 1 million live apps in the App Store. 1,006,557 to be exact at the time of this writing...

Apps of the week: Double Dragon Trilogy, Space Hulk, and more…

Around this time of the year, I tend to hide out in my nice warm house. Even if a cool band is playing right up the street from me, there has to be something more to convince me that suffering through the cold is worth it. I know I live in California and really don’t know the meaning of the word “cold.” But, I always argue that the reason I can’t stand the cold is because I live in California.

This weekend, I’ll be staying inside where I can play games on my iPad, watch cheesy holiday movies, and drink eggnog until I’m sick. If you are looking for apps and games to keep you inside this weekend, we’ve got a list of some of our favorites this week…

Infinity Blade II named IGN’s ‘Free Game of the Month’

Infinity Blade II was first announced in October of 2011, during Apple's iPhone 4S event, and was later released on December 1 of that year. It's powered by Epic’s Unreal Engine 3 tech and has the same addictive gameplay as the original...
