iOS Virus Lurking Behind Shady Jailbreak and Unlock Ads?

Those of us who enjoy Apple products also enjoy a sense of security. In the 4 years I've been carrying an iPhone, I've yet to have to worry about security on my phone, other than maybe a passcode. Apple's tight grip on iOS and 3rd party developers has actually done well to keep security threats at bay.

I'm not saying those days are over, but there is an interesting story floating around the internet that surfaced sometime over the weekend. I brushed it off at first, but when a Google search returned over 100 results, I started reading. Smooth Blog, among many others, is reporting that a virus has been infecting iPhone users around the globe...

Rumor: iPhone 5 Production Won’t Start Until September

The latest in iPhone 5 rumors claims that Apple won't be starting mass production of the iPhone 5 until September, which corroborates previous reports that Apple won't be unveiling the device at WWDC this summer.

If production doesn't start until September, Apple could be waiting to unveil and announce ship dates for the next gen iPhone at their annual September event. Although iOS 5 will be previewed this summer, there could be an official launch of Apple's new software alongside an iPhone 5 announcement later this year...

Will We See Carbon Fiber on Future iDevices?

Apple made some big splashes with their all aluminum MacBook designs a couple of years ago. The original iPhone was even covered in the popular metal. It appears that aluminum is so 2007, as reports are circulating this morning that Apple is looking to go carbon fiber.

It's certainly not anything new, Apple has been rumored to be experimenting with carbon-fiber enclosures for quite some time. Back in 2010, Apple won a patent on improved composite materials that hinted that they were researching the use of carbon-fiber composites in electronic devices. Could we see the light weight material in future Apple products?

Apple Snags Major Gaming PR Executives

It's no secret that Apple sees their iPhone and iPod touch products as gaming devices. Their unique combination of power and portability make them serious contenders in the handheld gaming market. But if you remember back to last fall, major console heavy weight Sony took some shots at Apple in a marketing campaign.

The popular TV ad referred to an iPhone-like device as "not built for big boy games." Well it looks as though Apple is planning something for the gaming community to put some points back up on the board. MCV, an overseas gaming site, reported yesterday that Apple has hired 2 high profile PR executives from the gaming community...

Toys R' Us to Begin Selling the iPad 2 Next Month?

The iPad 2 has been quite the success story. The device that had to live up to the name "magical," continues to do so with analysts predicting iPad 2 sales beyond 40 million units.

It appears like Apple is looking to meet the high expectations by making the device available almost anywhere. The iPad 2 has been sold in several retail chains so far, such as Target and Walmart. It even turned up at RadioShack late last month.

Now Apple could be looking to target a younger demographic by offering the iPad 2 at Toys R' Us retail stores across the country. ModMyi is reporting that they received a tip a few days ago from a Toys R' Us employee that the chain had been training its entire staff on the device.

The employee even sent the blog a picture (see below) of the iPad 2 training material as proof. The move would certainly be a logical one on Apple's part. Toys R' Us already sells iPod products, this would be a way for Apple to market their tablet to a different audience.

As the iPad 2 story continues, we will keep you updated on the latest place to buy the popular tablet, as we all await a jailbreak solution.

Surprise! The Wall Street Journal posted some more gossip about the iPhone 5 this morning, and I think it's safe to say that at this point, no one really knows when the iPhone 5 is going to launch.

Will it be June? Will it be September? Anyone's guess is as good as mine, but be rest assured that Apple has a plan in place at this point in the game

In fact, one analyst quoted in today's Wall Street Journal tidbit seemed to reiterate the fact that no one really knows. Due to a variety of factors, including the recent launch of the Verizon iPhone 4, Apple is holding its cards tightly this go round...

Apple Patent Hints at Possible Hybrid Electronic Paper Display in iPhone

Patents are extremely interesting. They tend to show what a company's capable of. We generally don't get to see this in consumer products, as they are derived from marketing research and cost effectiveness calculations. But it would certainly be interesting to see all of the crazy ideas that get flung around Cupertino's campus and never hit retail stores.

Luckily, Apple's patent filings give us a glimpse of what they've been working on. Their latest filing, uncovered by Patently Apple, describes a display that can switch between high resolution color and electronic paper for reading books. This would certainly entice iDevice hold-outs that just couldn't ditch their e-reader's ink print...

iPhone 5 Pics Leaked Again

Take this one with a grain a salt, as most of these leaked photos are proven to be fake. For Apple's sake, let's hope the case follows suit. These leaked pictures depict a very iPhone 4-looking device with some minor differences.

These photos were posted early this morning on BGR's website. They are supposedly snapshots of the up and coming iPhone 5 and have been making some noise around the internet today. They were said to have been sourced from a Vietnamese forum post, but that is anything but confirmed....

One of the things Apple is most known for is its innovation. They haven't reinvented the wheel with any of their products, they've just made the wheel sexy and easy to use. Patents are a good resource for information on Apple's past and future innovations. Although patents don't always make it to the assembly line, they do shed some light on what Apple's been working on.

Patently Apple is an expert at keeping up with Apple's latest ideas. After the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPT) makes Apple's patent filings public, Patently Apple posts them on their website with a pretty good break down of all the tech talk. Their latest gossip is on a filing from late 2009 by the Cupertino company, concerning a "Smart Bezel." I know it sounds unusual, but Apple is looking to completely change how we interact with our devices...

Report: iOS 4.3.2 Coming in Two Weeks?

It's been less than three weeks since Apple officially released iOS 4.3.1, and now there are already reports coming in that iOS 4.3.2 is just around the corner.

According to Boy Genius Report, Apple is scheduled to release iOS 4.3.2 "within the next two weeks." BGR's source claims that the update will bring a few enhancements, address security issues, and it will also fix several bugs that have affected users.

Apple Orders 12 Petabytes for Cloud-Based iTunes, MobileMe?

Apple's plans for their MobileMe revamp and cloud-based media services are starting to take shape. Although no official announcement regarding either of the services has been made, we are almost positive we will see them at some point this year.

Apple's been relatively quiet about the purposed functions, but tech blogs are happily churning out rumors and speculation on the upcoming features. The latest gossip is that Apple has ordered as much as 12 Petabytes, which is equal to about 1000 Terabytes, from a global leader in scale-out storage services. What could they be planning?
