Apple’s 30-Pin Dock Connector Could be Getting a Huge Upgrade

A new and interesting patent reveals a very interesting possibility for future iDevices. Apple's current proprietary connection technology has been in need of an update for a long time, and technologies like MagSafe have been considered as a replacement.

The current 30-pin connector is present on all of Apple's mobile devices. And, apparently, Apple is looking to upgrade the 30-pin architecture with multiple connection technologies...

More Evidence of “Photo Stream” in iOS 4.3, Possible iOS 5 Feature?

With an official demo still 2 months away, we can only rely on rumors and speculation to paint a picture of what iOS 5 might look like. Clues hidden inside iOS 4 can also help us predict future iOS characteristics. Some are found through hours of code searching, others are found by pure dumb luck.

9to5 Mac is reporting that one of their readers has stumbled upon some hidden clues in iOS 4.3 that once again point to the rumored Photo Stream feature. The reader uncovered the hidden references while browsing his photo library on his iPhone via a 3rd party editing app. What could these secret features possibly mean for iOS users?

iPhone 5 Launch Rumors Continue, Will Not Launch in June

If you're confused about release dates surrounding the iPhone 5, you're not the only one. In classic fashion, rumors have been flying left and right about when Apple's next gen iPhone will be announced.

Originally, reliable sources said that, unlike Apple's previous track record, there would be no iPhone 5 announcement at WWDC this June. Several authoritative sources all agreed that Apple would not release the iPhone 5 during the typical summer time frame.

Yesterday, a report from a Korean site claimed that Apple would in fact have a hardware announcement at WWDC in June. This claim directly opposed the previous consensus that Apple would hold off on the iPhone 5 launch. And it appears that the recent, Korean-based rumor is false...

Leaked iPod touch Image Could Potentially Paint a Picture of the iPhone’s Future

The iPod touch, with a "touch to home" feature. How obvious, when you think about it?

This new leaked photo of what is apparently an iPod touch is making waves around the Internet today due to its lack of a mechanical Home button.

Although it's a bit different than the rumors that suggested that the Home button would go away completely, a capacitive touch sensitive button is certainly one step in said direction.

Of course Android phones have been doing this for quite some time now, but it'll be interesting to see -- assuming the photo is the real deal -- if this feature will ever make it to the iPhone...

Rumor: iPhone 5 Will Launch at End of June

A report from the Korean site ETNews.co.kr claims that Apple will release the iPhone 5 on the 4th week of June. This rumor directly opposes the previous claim from TechCrunch that Apple would push back the iPhone 5 announcement to later this fall.

ETNews bases this report on inside knowledge that Korean wireless providers SK Telecom and KT will be the first to carry Apple's next iPhone. Will we see an iPhone 5 hardware announcement at WWDC this summer after all?

Apple Looking to Build Rechargeable Battery Pack

According to a recent patent, it appears that Apple is interested in making its own external, rechargeable battery pack. There are plenty of portable batteries for the iPhone on the market already, but it looks like Apple might introduce a new charging cable with its own rechargeable battery.

A future charging cable from Apple could supply multiple charge cycles when disconnected from a power source...

Sony Confirms Making an 8-Megapixel Camera for the iPhone 5

The details keep coming together for Apple's next-generation smartphone. The device that is set to sell over 100 million units is certainly one of the most popular topics for tech blogs for several reasons. Apple products in general tend to garner more attention; both for their secrecy, and their history of changing the industry.

It's hard to separate rumors from facts. To be honest, until somebody like a Steve Jobs or a Tim Cook makes the announcement, nothing should be considered fact. It gets even tougher to tell the difference when you have major corporations dishing out the gossip.

9to5 Mac is reporting that Sony's CEO, Howard Stringer, just dropped a major bombshell during an interview with Walt Mossberg yesterday...

Future iPad Updates to Bring Spaces?

Spaces is a great tool to help you multitask beyond having multiple applications open. It virtually gives you multiple screens. If you own a Mac computer then you definitely know what feature I am talking about.

For those who don't know what Spaces is, it allows you to create multiple work spaces in Mac OS X. A workspace is basically a desktop, it's everything you see open on your current screen. Moving to another Space will move you to another screen completely, you have the same desktop wallpaper and icons, just no apps or windows open.

Patently Apple has discovered a patent filed by Apple that shows their famous Spaces technology running on a tablet device. It also describes many different multitouch gestures that would allow you to control the feature.

It appears as though Apple is interested in bringing the popular feature to its iPad lineup. Although patents don't always make it to consumer products, they do give a good indication of what future products may encompass.

That being said, notice in the figure above of what Apple calls a multifunction device. That looks an awful lot like an OS X dock. Will Apple's next iPad support a more functional version of OS X? Or is this a different product all together?

What do you think of these patent filings?

Apple Considering 3D Cameras for iPhone 5?

I can't think of a consumer electronics device I've ever seen garner as many rumors and as much speculation as Apple's iPhone 5. The storied device was expected to hit the shelves sometime this summer like previous models, but it is now rumored to be pushed back until late fall or early 2012.

The rumors aren't just limited to the release date of the iPhone 5, but they also expand into hardware predictions, and now, more recently, camera specs. At first the question was whether or not they'd bump the 5 MP camera up to an 8 or 10MP. Now it seems like the question could be if they move the camera up a whole dimension...

Is A Cheaper iPhone Inevitable?

As rumors continue to fly about Apple's upcoming iPhone 5, it's easy to forget that Apple may indeed be cooking up a smaller version of their hit smartphone. The gossip started back in 2009 when rumors were claiming the possibility of an iPhone Nano launch that fall.

Well, obviously there was no such introduction and the story kind of died out. Then earlier this year, media giants Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal reignited the rumors with claims of confirmation that the iPhone Nano existed...
