Hacked iTunes Accounts Are Being Sold in China

The Global Times recently discovered that over 50,000 illegal iTunes accounts are being offered for purchase in China. Potential buyers are promised access to purchase iTunes content for free; amounting to seven times the amount paid.

Toaboa.com, China's largest consumer auction site, is offering hacked iTunes accounts with stolen credit card and contact information to potential customers. These accounts are registered by real people with real personal information, but this blatant form of organized crime has (so far) gone unpunished.

At prices of 1-200 yuan (about $30 a pop), these hacked accounts are distributed through the iTunes login credentials associated with the account's payment information...

How to Put Your Apple TV in DFU Mode

Since we now know that it is possible to jailbreak the Apple TV (and install apps on it), one thing we need to learn sooner rather than later is to put the Apple TV in DFU mode. Putting the Apple TV in DFU mode is not complicated, assuming you know how to press a couple buttons together...

Step 1: Make sure your Apple TV is connected to your computer via a mini USB cable.

Step 2: On the remote, press and hold the Down and Menu button together for a few seconds. Your Apple TV will start blinking. You can now release.

Step 3: Now press and hold the Menu and Play button together for another few seconds.

Step 4: Done! Your Apple TV should now show up in iTunes, from where you'll be able to restore it.

Next step is getting a jailbreak for this Apple TV. I can't wait for that.

Google's Chrome OS Running on the iPad

There's been photos of Chrome OS running on the iPad for a few days. I didn't want to publish them because they could have very well been fake. But this video is proving me wrong. Hacker Hexxeh managed to get Chrome OS to work on an iPad. I'll stick to iOS... You?

How to Get Game Center on an iPhone 3G

With the release of iOS 4.1 came Game Center, Apple's mobile and social gaming platform. Unfortunately for iPhone 3G owners, Apple decided not to include Game Center on the iPhone 3G. Why did they do that? Probably to prepare iPhone 3G users to the fact that they won't get support from Apple anymore when the next iPhone comes out in 2011.

This being said, I was tipped about Game Center running on an iPhone 3G, and while the results are kinda mixed, it works for sure. Proof is a YouTube video made by Taimur showing Game Center running (a little slow) on a 3G. So how do you get Game Center on an iPhone 3G?

Windows 95 Running on the iPad

Why? Why would anyone want to get Windows 95 running on an iPad? I guess because they can! That's what YouTube user MSComputerVideos did by creating this tutorial that whill show you how to get Windows 95 on your iPad.

Let me warn you, it's ugly! Not as bad as the music used in this video though...

Will You Upgrade Your iPhone to iOS 4.1?

This week Apple will release the iOS version 4.1 for the iPhone. If our calculations are correct the newest version of the mobile operating system will be hitting iTunes on Wednesday, September 8th.

The last couple of updates from Apple haven't been anything to write home about. Version 4.0.1 simply addressed the algorithm while the antenna issue was flooding the news wire. After that, version 4.0.2 basically just patched up a security issue that Apple left exposed. As far as actual tangible features both refreshes were pretty dull at best...

Why Do People Think Jailbreaking Can Brick Your iPhone? [Rant]

This week has gone by faster than usual. Perhaps the Apple event made the days come and go quicker but nevertheless it's Friday. This is the day I've been known to spout off about a topic that I feel needs further attention. This week I go after those who feel the need to warn people that jailbreaking your iPhone can "brick" it.

I recently posted an article announcing the recent jailbreak of my iPhone 4. Having been away from the dark side since my iPhone 3G, I wasn't sure what to expect from the process.

This is For Those Who Are Scared to Jailbreak Their iPhone

After weeks of self debate and bugging Sebastien about the possibilities of jailbreaking my iPhone 4, I took the leap of faith Wednesday night and cracked opened my device. I must say that the whole process was unbelievably painless and took no more than 5 minutes to perform the hack and update the Cydia packages.

I used JailbreakMe to perform the procedure and I will vouch for the website any day. After 2 or 3 minutes of loading, the device was jailbroken and ready to be used. Perhaps it was the Apple aroma in the air after their event, but nevertheless having jailbroken my iPhone 4 makes it feel like launch day all over again...
