har.mo.ny review: a relaxing mind bending puzzle

Once iOS 7 was announced, developers were on the ball, designing new apps and games with a flatter, brighter design. Quite a few puzzle games have seen huge success as iOS users flocked to the attractive looking design.

BorderLeap’s newest app, har.mo.ny is an iOS 7 inspired puzzle game that is both challenging and pleasant to play. You won’t be flinging birds at pigs with a peppy soundtrack in this game. You’ll be calmly flipping blocks to the zen-like calm of ambient music…

Popular game engine Unity updated with iOS 7 controller support

Good news on the iOS gaming front this weekend. Unity, the game engine behind a number of high-profile titles like Call of Duty: Strike Team, The Room and Bad Piggies, was updated to version 4.2.2 yesterday with a number of improvements.

But there's one particular item in the change log that caught our eye: iOS 7 game controller support. This means that, depending on the speed of each developer, it may not be long before you're joystickin' your way through your favorite iOS game...

F1 Challenge races its way into App Store

Fans of Formula 1 racing, rejoice! Games maker Codemasters today released F1 Challenge (a $2.99 download) on the App Store with more than 90 racing events. This is a licensed videogame so you're getting the officially licensed cars from manufacturers such as Ferrari and McLaren, in addition to the drivers and teams from the 2012 season.

F1 Challenge lets you race against such names as Scuderia Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, Red Bull Racing’s Sebastian Vettel, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes’ Jenson Button and Lotus F1 Team’s Kimi Räikkönen. Graphics look top-notch and I've included a few screenshots and some video evidence right after the break...

XCOM: Enemy Unknown updated with new multiplayer mode, goes half price

If you're amongst the iOS gamers that thought XCOM: Enemy Unknown looked awesome when it hit earlier this year, but was way too expensive, we've got some great news for you: it's 50% off right now.

That's right, alongside a 1.3 update that adds asynchronous multiplayer, full Game Center support and other new features, the popular strategy-action game has been discounted down from $19.99 to $9.99...

Drift Mania Street Outlaws review: drift in style through city streets

The iPad is fast becoming a blooming garden of racing games. The Asphalt series is a huge hit. EA’s line of Real Racing games has pushed graphics to the limit. Need for Speed Most Wanted has won awards for its fast-paced gameplay mixed with console quality graphics.

Drift Mania: Street Outlaws is a racing game with fairly decent graphics, action packed racing, and an underground drift culture theme…

Final Fantasy VI arriving this winter, FF VII being considered

It has never been a better time to be both a Final Fantasy and an Apple fan. Square Enix released Final Fantasy V for the iPhone and iPad back in March (and Final Fantasy IV hit iOS last December), however the publisher isn't resting on its laurels.

According to Square Enix director Takashi Tokita, the next chapter in the Final Fantasy saga is set to unfold in the coming weeks as the firm, formed as the result of a merger between Square and Enix, gears up to release Final Fantasy VI on iOS and Android this winter. More information follows right below...

Transport Tycoon now available on the App Store

Back in July, we received word that an official port of Transport Tycoon would be coming to iOS this year. The game, which was originally released for PCs back in 1994, is still regarded as one of the best simulators of all time.

Well for those who missed it, the game landed in the App Store this weekend and is now available for download. It's been redesigned from the ground up for touchscreen, and has thus far received high ratings from reviewers...

Classic Amiga games officially headed to iOS 7 with full controller support

This is the announcement I've been waiting for like forever, or at least ever since the original iPhone came out more than six years ago. See, Commodore's Amiga with its then amazing graphics has brought home computing to the masses.

The golden age of video games predates digital interactive entertainment we take for granted nowadays and goes way back thirty years to the mid-1980s. Me and my friends, just a bunch of kids back then, had the privilege to witness the revolution unfolding itself before our very eyes. You could easily imagine us spending countless hours playing "console-grade" Amiga games distributed on 3.5-inch floppy disks.

The App Store has certainly seen a few re-releases of classic Amiga games such as Another World, Transport Tycoon and Worms. Today, Writers' Group Film Corp. and its wholly-owned subsidiary Amiga Games announced that classic Amiga titles will be hitting the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices soon, with full iOS 7 physical controller support...

Gentlemen, start your engines: NASCAR Redline races its way into the App Store

I've never been a big fan of NASCAR but I do remember spending a big chunk of my pocket money on the arcade game Daytona USA. I specifically recall races starting with the iconic "gentlemen, start your engines" announcement.

Fastforward to today, and I'm still not a big NASCAR fan, but I can certainly appreciate some of the strategies that go into the races. The right set of brakes, tires, or suspension can actually make or break a race.

NASCAR: Redline is the first officially licensed NASCAR game to make its way in the App Store. Although you won't be in the driver seat, your role will be to ensure that every decision made is the right one in order to take your team to the victory...

Original Plants vs. Zombies updated with support for iOS 7, 4-inch displays

Those of you who weren't impressed by Plants vs. Zombies 2 or its 'freemium' business model will be happy to hear that EA has updated the original PvZ game with support for the latest devices and firmware.

Posted late last night, Plants vs. Zombies version 1.9.9 includes support for the recent iOS 7 software update, as well as the larger resolution for the 4-inch displays found on newer iPhones and iPod touches...

NBA 2K14 hits the App Store

If you're into sports and are a fan of basketball and the NBA in particular, the newly-released NBA 2K14 for iOS devices should be on your list for consideration. The game has been published by 2K Games, a Take-Two Interactive subsidiary notable for its recent release of Lucid Games' 2K Drive for the iPhone and iPad.

Of course, it's really an updated version of 2K's ongoing NBA series for the iPhone and iPad, refreshed with the 2013-14 season stats, players, venues and other data (just like EA Sports' FIFA series)...

Tin Man Games launches eighth installment in Gamebook Adventure series

Some of you may remember gamebooks from your childhood. They were similar to choose-your-own-adventure games, but with the added twist of including stats-based fights against non-player characters (NPC).

Gamebook Adventures 8: Curse of the Assassin is the latest installment in the company’s ongoing series. Grab your game fuel and get ready for an adventure filled with magic, monsters, and mystery…
