Sony Confirms Making an 8-Megapixel Camera for the iPhone 5

The details keep coming together for Apple's next-generation smartphone. The device that is set to sell over 100 million units is certainly one of the most popular topics for tech blogs for several reasons. Apple products in general tend to garner more attention; both for their secrecy, and their history of changing the industry.

It's hard to separate rumors from facts. To be honest, until somebody like a Steve Jobs or a Tim Cook makes the announcement, nothing should be considered fact. It gets even tougher to tell the difference when you have major corporations dishing out the gossip.

9to5 Mac is reporting that Sony's CEO, Howard Stringer, just dropped a major bombshell during an interview with Walt Mossberg yesterday...

Apple Considering 3D Cameras for iPhone 5?

I can't think of a consumer electronics device I've ever seen garner as many rumors and as much speculation as Apple's iPhone 5. The storied device was expected to hit the shelves sometime this summer like previous models, but it is now rumored to be pushed back until late fall or early 2012.

The rumors aren't just limited to the release date of the iPhone 5, but they also expand into hardware predictions, and now, more recently, camera specs. At first the question was whether or not they'd bump the 5 MP camera up to an 8 or 10MP. Now it seems like the question could be if they move the camera up a whole dimension...

Ever wish there was a quick and easy way to prevent your iPhone's photos from being accidentally purged?

Apple kind of skimped on the data protection elements of iOS; there's no native way to prevent someone from going into your camera roll, and deleting all of your photographs if they have access to your iPhone.

Again, the Cydia store comes to the rescue as another jailbreak tweak entitled Photector pops up on the scene to save the day...

iPad 2 Comes With 2 Cameras

As expected, the iPad 2 ill ship with 2 cameras, a front one and a rear one. The front one is at the top of the device, when you hold it vertically. It will allow to play with PhotoBooth which will be soon available for free for iPad, as well as FaceTime.

Who Will Provide the iPhone 5’s Camera Upgrade?

The iPhone 4 is no slouch when it comes to taking decent point and shoot snapshots, and 720p video, but it definitely falls behind dedicated point and shoots.

Recently, we've heard rumblings that the iPhone 5's camera sensor could be bumped up from 5 Megapixels to 8 Megapixels.

As it turns out, OmniVision -- provider of many of the previous iPhone camera sensors -- has come up with an improved method of gaining higher pixel density while taking up the same amount of space.

That would make it a no-brainer that Apple would use this upgraded sensor in the iPhone's annual refresh, but it looks like there may have been a slight change of plans...

Apple iPad Event to Take Place on March 2nd

Apple will be holding a press event next week at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Fransisco. The event is supposed to be focused on the iPad 2.

There have been reports that Apple's iPad announcement would be delayed, but multiple sources (including Apple) have recently confirmed that Apple will in fact hold an event next Wednesday.

Not much information has been leaked about the approaching Apple event besides specs for the next version of the iPad. Apple might update iOS as well, but there is no hard evidence to support that claim.

QuickSnap Aims to Be the Right Jailbreak App For Documenting Random Things

It's happened to all of us, we're in a store, we see something, or some piece of information that we'd like to use later, and so we take a picture of it with our phone.

That's okay and all, but the problem starts to appear when you have more random note-taking pictures than actual pictures that you plan on keeping in your Camera Roll.

I know I've found myself having to perform a search and rescue mission for my real pictures amongst the massive amounts of random litter on plenty of occasions, maybe you suffer from this syndrome as well?

That's why a jailbreak app like QuickSnap seemed so appealing to me; it's described as "simple photo taking without saving." Does it live up to its claims?

CameraWallpaper, a New App to Use Your Camera as Your iPhone Wallpaper

CameraWallpaper is a new tweak available in Cydia that lets you use the camera of your iPhone as your wallpaper, meaning that anything your camera sees will be displayed as your wallpaper.

As soon as you are on your iPhone springboard, you will see whatever is in front of your camera as a wallpaper. Thanks to an intuitive Activator integration, you will also be able to snap a picture at any time and use this picture as your wallpaper.

Boost the Functionality of Your iPhone Camera With ‘CameraButtons’

There are many jailbreak tweaks that allow you to map the iPhone's volume buttons to the camera shutter. As far as I'm concerned, though, none of them have as much potential as CameraButtons.

CameraButtons takes the essential functionality of past tweaks, and ramps it up a few notches. Not only can you control your shutter with the iPhone's physical buttons, but you can also map a plethora of other camera-based functions to them as well.

Have you ever wanted to shoot video or take pictures with your iPhone, while the screen appeared to be off? Me neither, but if you have, then Stealth Cam is the jailbreak tweak for you.

This almost reminds me of those little "spy" toys they used to sell back in the day; you know, things like periscopes, binoculars, etc. But, an iPhone equipped with Stealth Cam is on a whole 'nother level.

More iPad 2 Camera Evidence

The folks over at 9 to 5 Mac have been showing off these images of what appear to be screenshots of an iPad camera.app. These photos, coupled with the fact that they were produced from files within the iOS 4.3 SDK (software development kit), should make those holding out for an iPad with a camera breathe a sigh of relief.

The screenshots sent in were all in the iPad's currently used 1024 x 768 resolution. So those of you that were hoping for a Retina Display in this iPad refresh, may be deeply disappointed. In all fairness though, I'd agree that could just be because 1024 x 768 is as high as the iPad goes now, so for software testing purposes it can't be higher than the current iPad's resolution.

What I'm curious about is why is there no 'rotate camera' button? I thought Apple's popular video chatting app, FaceTime, was a shoe in for the next iPad model. I guess only time will tell. At least the predicted date for an iPad announcement isn't too far off. Anyone looking to pick up the iPad 2? Have any iPad predictions of your own?
