Warning: App Store users receiving email spam pretending to be from Apple

The App Store has seen its fair share of drama since its creation, and while Apple never publicly acknowledged any of it, there have been ample amounts of evidence showing that iTunes accounts have previously been hacked to steal money from store credit, or to buy applications without the account's owner's consent. Last year, some hackers went as far as selling iTunes accounts login information on ToaBoa.com, a Chinese site similar to eBay.

Today we received tips from two independent sources claiming they had received a suspicious email from Apple, urging them to download an application from the App Store. The email happens to be a fake, but the application is real...

How to Enable OmniFocus Siri Reminders on iPhone 4

OmniFocus for iPhone is a great productivity tool. With Apple’s new iPhone OS came integration with Reminders and Siri. When enabled, OmniFocus will check the Reminders app for new tasks, add them to your Inbox, and remove them from your Reminders list. This holds true for Reminders created using Siri in addition to those entered manually.

However, for some reason, The Omni Group limited the powerful new iOS 5 integration to iPhone 4S users. The good news is if you’re an iPhone 4 user, you can enable Reminders and Siri integration with a little bit of preference file editing. This trick does not affect the OmniFocus app’s performance, stability or existing functionality. Here’s how to do it…

Apple looking to make iOS app creation easier with new authoring tool

AppleInsider spotted an interesting patent application this morning entitled 'Content Configuration for Device Platforms.' The document was filed by Apple on December 15th of last year.

The patent describes a piece of software that would help non-programmers develop iOS applications. Remember the iBooks authoring tool Apple released back in January? Yeah, this is a lot like that...

AppMosaic — the App Store app discovery tool that we recently previewed — has gone live on Cydia.

The jailbreak app prides itself on providing a unique look at the top 200 paid and free apps on the App Store.

We like it, and we suggest you give it a shot. Head over to Cydia's ModMyi repo where you can download it for free. Be sure to let us know what you think about it.

Update: We've been alerted that AppMosaic has a bug preventing it from showing up properly once installed. The bug is currently being addressed.

Max Payne now available in the App Store [updated]

Last week, Rockstar announced that it would be bringing its popular Max Payne title to iOS. The third person shooter has developed quite a following as a PC/console game, and now it looks set to take on Apple's mobile platform.

Fans of the franchise will be happy to hear that the iOS port of Max Payne will include many of the same features that made the series a hit including slow-motion gunplay and cinematic cut scenes...

AppMosaic: an upcoming App Store discovery tool from Cydia

AppMosaic is an upcoming jailbreak app that brings App Store App discovery to your iDevice by means of Cydia.

I believe this is probably the first app of its kind on Cydia, and for that, AppMosaic gets major props for originality.

Upon opening the app, you're presented with a two sided column that composes a full mosaic of app icons. The left side of the column is dedicated to the top 200 paid apps, and the right side is for the top 200 free apps.

Sparrow for iPhone updated, developers say push coming soon

Sparrow, once only a third-party email client for the Mac, landed on iOS last month with a splash. The $2.99 software provides users with an excellent alternative to the native Mail option.

Well the app received an update today, bringing it to version 1.1. It includes a handful of new additions and features, and the developers say that more is on the way...

The iPad Vs Android tablet argument is one that has been waging for longer than we care to think, and it is one that shows no sign of going away anytime soon.

As if the fire really needed any more stoking, PC World's Sasha Segan has sought to fan the flames of fanboyism by comparing Android tablets and the iPad in the app stakes, with the number of apps and their perceived quality being put to the test across a range of categories.

The result? Well, the iPad comes up trumps as we would probably expect, but did we really expect a different outcome? Nope...

iPad App Store now matching growth pace of its iPhone, Android counterparts

The iPad section of Apple's mobile application store is growing steadily and now matches the respective growth rates of Google Play marketplace (formerly Android Market) and the iPhone/ iPod touch section of the App Store. That's the gist of a Distimo survey released Tuesday, which confirms the iPad App Store as by far the largest tablet app marketplace in the United States.

Check out the above chart pitting the growth rate of universal iOS apps (pink) versus native iPad software (gray). But it ain't just about app count: Android slates are still suffering from the lack of high-quality apps optimized for various tablet form factors. Contrast this to iOS developers who adopted concern for an optimal user experience right from the iPad's very beginnings.

Now, raise hands who's fond of scaled-up iPhone apps on their iPad? Didn't think so...

Meet the girl who downloaded the 25 billionth iOS app
