Apple TV Gets a Jailbreak

That didn't take long. A few days after demoing there iPod Touch 4G jailbreak, the Dev Team has now given us proof of a jailbreak for the new Apple TV that came out a couple days ago. It had been confirmed that the Apple TV could be jailbroken, but to be honest with you, I didn't expect it to come so quickly.

This Apple TV jailbreak takes advantage of the same SHAtter exploit used on the iPod 4G by restoring it to a custom IPSW using PwnageTool. Brilliant...

Data Counter App Keeps Track of Your Data Usage

Since AT&T recently started offering capped data plans for iPhone, those of you who were not grandfathered into the unlimited plan do have to pay attention to their 3G and Edge usage. While the iPhone does offer the ability to monitor your usage by going to Settings > General > Usage, it still doesn't offer a reliable way to see what you're really using.

Enters Data Counter, a jailbreak application that helps you keep track of your data usage within a given period...

How’s That 2GB Data Cap Treating You?

By now there’s been ample time to digest the consequences of AT&T’s 2 gigabyte data cap initiated earlier this summer. Would it be too little? Are the prices fair? These were some of the questions that only time and usage could aptly answer. Well, I’ve done the time, and I’ve certainly put in my fair share of mileage on my iPhone 4 to be able to draw a conclusion.

At $25 for 2,048 MB of data, that amounts to about .01220703 cents per megabyte. So a little over a penny per megabyte. Sounds fair enough. But cost was never the huge factor in my worries about AT&T’s new guidelines, real world usage was. In other words, how would my normal usage be affected by these new rules? Would I always have the data cap in the back of my mind causing me to stress unnecessarily? That’s something I didn’t want to have to put up with...

Angry Birds iPhone App Gets A Massive Update

I rarely if ever write about iPhone apps updates but today I felt compelled to do it for 2 reasons. One, Angry Birds is freaking awesome. Two, this game is a good example of what every iPhone developer should do.

Unless you've been under a rock for the last few months, you most likely have heard of Angry Birds, a game where you have to throw birds at evil pigs. Sounds terrible, doesn't it? It is however as addictive as heroin, so play with care...

DIY: the $100 iPhone Stand

It had been a while since we saw one of these creative DIY iPhone stands. While doing my morning reading I came across this video on TUAW showing designer Enrique Pardo turning a $100 bill into an origami iPhone stand.

Of course this would perfectly work with a $1 bill but we ain't that cheap ;)

Google's Chrome OS Running on the iPad

There's been photos of Chrome OS running on the iPad for a few days. I didn't want to publish them because they could have very well been fake. But this video is proving me wrong. Hacker Hexxeh managed to get Chrome OS to work on an iPad. I'll stick to iOS... You?

HDR Capabilities Coming to the iPhone 3GS?

Is HDR photo capabilities coming to the iPhone 3GS? It seems like it looking at the discovery 9 to 5 Mac made of what appears to be a future HDR feature in the 3GS. As you can see in this image, there are two icons for the HDR feature inside the SDK. One clearly is for the iPhone 4 Retina Display, and the other is for an iPhone without the Retina Display, which most likely is the iPhone 3GS.

This seems to be pretty good news if it is indeed for real. On the other hand, it could very well be a feature that Apple decided to drop at the last minute which would mean the 3GS will never get HDR...

Aluminum Jacket for iPhone is Army Strong

If the Hummer was an iPhone case, it would probably be the Abee Aluminium Jacket for iPhone. This is definitely not going to cater to everybody's needs but I'm sure there is a market for this case, maybe in the army?

Japanese company Abee came out with an aluminum case called the Type 01 that reminds us of the Vapor case, just a bit more rough looking...
