Apple Looking to Improve Voice Control Options in Their iOS

Voice commands, and even more specifically voice to text, has been a feature that Apple has kind of ignored up to this point on its iOS devices. It's also a feature that has certainly been a big hit with Google, and their Android customers. Sure Apple has given us Voice Control and the App Store may have several voice to text applications for the iPhone, but it would be so much better if it was built into the OS.

Well it looks like Apple might be after just that.  AppleInsider has discovered multiple job postings over at Apple.com that hint at some plans to give their ever popular iOS some major upgrades. The one in particular that stands out is the iOS Speech Operations Engineer posting, as current voice command options in iOS are lacking...

iOS 4.3 Detects Previously Purchased Apps That Haven’t Been Installed

Another new feature has been uncovered in the new iOS 4.3 GM release, courtesy of 9to5 Mac.

The new feature allows the App Store to scan your Apple account for previously purchased apps that aren't installed on your device yet. In the App Store, applications that aren't yet installed but have been purchased before, will show “INSTALL” next to them, instead of the app price.

iOS 4.3 vs iOS 4.2.1 Safari Web Browsing Speed Comparison

At Apple's iPad 2 Event earlier this week, one of the major improvements in iOS 4.3 was Mobile Safari performance.

Steve Jobs claimed that Apple has included the new Nitro JavaScript engine in iOS 4.3 which now powers Safari. According to Apple, the new Nitro JavaScript engine, not only improves web browsing responsiveness, but also runs JavaScript up to twice as fast as iOS 4.2.1, resulting in web pages and interactive features loading faster than ever before.

iOS 4.3 Will Not Be Compatible With All iDevices

We've gotten questions from readers asking if iOS 4.3 will be compatible with all iDevices. Sadly, the answer is no. The public release of iOS 4.3 that Apple announced at their iPad 2 event will only work on certain iDevice generations.

Most notably, 4.3 will not be installable on the Verizon iPhone. Because the Verizon iPhone runs on a different baseband and has different bugs to fix, Apple has to release a separate 4.3 build for that device. (Which they haven't announced yet.)

Hopefully your iDevice isn't on the 4.3 incompatibility list...

How to Enable Hidden Multitouch Gestures in iOS 4.3 GM on iPhone 4

Remember when we told you about the new multitouch gestures that Apple hid in earlier developer builds of iOS 4.3? Apple has seeded the final developer GM build of iOS 4.3 before the public launch on March 11th, and the very same gestures are still "hidden" inside 4.3.

When the story first broke that there were new gestures in 4.3, the gestures were only enabled on a specific build of 4.3 that wasn't available to the general audience of Apple develepors. In the final GM build of iOS 4.3, these hidden multitouch gestures can be enabled through a jailbreak exploit.

Let's take a closer look...

iOS 4.3 Personal Hotspot Feature Will Only Support 3 Simultaneous Devices

With Apple officially seeding iOS 4.3 GM to developers yesterday, Cupertino also updated its site with details regarding features the upcoming iOS 4.3 software brings. As we mentioned earlier this week, one of the features iOS 4.3 will finally bring is the long-awaited Personal Hotspot feature to AT&T iPhone 4 owners.

Although Verizon's version of the iPhone 4 Personal Hotspot feature supports five simultaneous devices, once AT&T iPhone 4 owners get the iOS 4.3 update, they will only be able to connect three devices at once.

iOS 4.3 GM Can Be Jailbroken with PwnageTool 4.2 [Tethered]

We have released a detailed tutorial on how to jailbreak the GM developer build of iOS 4.3. Yesterday, Apple seeded the final developer build of iOS 4.3, and the public release of 4.3 will take place on March 11th.

People are wondering if Apple has patched the current jailbreak exploits in their latest version of iOS. Because the iPad 2 runs on different hardware, it will almost definitely need a new exploit for an untethered jailbreak. As far as the iPhone and iPod goes, we'll keep you updated...

The Banned iPad 2 Promo Video

This was bound to happen. The folks that brought us the banned iPhone 4 promo video and the banned iPad promo video did it again, this time with the iPad 2. As usual it's just pure fun and mockery. I don't get tired of these videos for some reason. You?

Is Apple Planning to Release a 4G Enabled iPhone Sooner Than Expected?

I think most of us 'round these parts expect the iPhone 5 to be the last triumphant hoorah on 3G networks, but some interesting noise has been coming from the east concerning the likelihood of a 4G enabled iPhone.

China Mobile Communications Corp.’s Chairman, Wang Jianzhou, spoke on the matter by stating that “Jobs has expressed his interest in an LTE iPhone and is willing to start the development at an early date.”

Now to put the puzzle pieces together. Does he mean “early” as in iPhone 5 early? Or “early” as in next year sometime?

Apple Reportedly in Negotiations With Record Labels For Unlimited Music Downloads

If there's one feature that I really appreciate about the App Store, it's the ability to re-download previous purchases with ease.

Even if you're on another device, all you need is your iTunes login credentials and bam; it's downloading again, for free.

The iTunes music store doesn't exactly work like that. I rarely download music from iTunes, so I was shocked the first time that I realized I couldn't re-download an album that I had bought previously.

Fortunately, for those of you that rely on iTunes for all of your music needs, this might be about to change...

How to Remove the New “Quick Bar” in Twitter for iPhone

The official Twitter for iPhone app has been updated with several new features. Unlike previous minor updates, Twitter 3.3 packs some significant changes to the app's interface.

While there are some definite improvements in the app, many users have been complaining that the update does more harm than good…
