Job posting suggests Apple is working on solar-powered mobile devices

Apple is in search of a thin films engineer for its Mobile Devices team, according to a recent job posting. More specifically, it's looking for an engineer with extensive experience with thin-film technologies in either semiconductor processing or solar industries.

The posting suggests Apple is investigating a viable alternative energy source for future mobile products. And the fact that it says this position will work with suppliers to deliver scalable manufacturing processes means they may be coming sooner than later...

Pod2g says he’s becoming increasingly confident in iOS 7 jailbreak

Good news on the jailbreak front this evening, as pod2g has just tweeted out that he is becoming "more and more confident about an iOS 7 public jailbreak." He's careful to note, however, that this doesn't mean one is coming soon.

Still, this is a great vote of confidence from pod2g, as there has been little said about the state of the iOS 7 jailbreak since word got out last week that the evad3rs were looking into it. Well, planetbeing provided a minor update on Wednesday...

Apple to offer advanced iPhone 5s reservations on September 17 in China

With the iPhone 5c pre-order launch now well underway, the focus of the media turns to that of the iPhone 5s. Of course, we'll have to wait another week for that, since Apple has opted not to allow advanced purchasing of the handset.

Unless you live in China. While most of the world will have to wait in line to purchase an iPhone 5s on launch day, it appears that folks in the country can take advantage of an advance reservations system beginning September 17...

Rage Warriors for iOS: kill or be killed!

You know what game I miss? Street Fighter IV. Well, I don’t really miss it because I can play it any time I want to on my iPhone. What I mean is, I miss the feeling of it being new. It was such an awesome fighting game.

Rage Warriors takes a page or two from Street Fighter. However, it features a completely different set of rules, characters, and final moves.  This is not your parent’s fighting game…

New Infinity Blade III video posts ahead of next week’s release

Chair has today posted a new video teasing its upcoming Infinity Blade III title, the third installment in the developer's popular hack-and-slash series. The game first debuted during Apple's iPhone event on Tuesday, where it demonstrated the power of the A7.

Today's clip is entitled 'Infinity Blade: Origins,' and it does a great job of summing up events in the first two games and introducing the third. In typical Infinity Blade-fashion, both graphics and audio of the video are top-notch—so it's definitely worth watching...

Calendars 5 review: one of the best calendar apps for iOS

A few days ago, Readdle launched a brand new calendar app in the App Store. No, this is not just an update to Calendars + with a new skin. This is a brand new app with brand new features.

Calendars 5 is an iOS 7 friendly productivity app that lets you sync with your Google or iOS calendar, add reminders from your iOS Reminders app, and the best part, it is a universal app for both iPhone and iPad…

Microsoft posts series of terrible ads bashing new iPhones [updated]

Now, we're no strangers to Microsoft's anti-Apple marketing antics. Whether it be Surface against iPad or Windows Phone against iPhone, the company has made it very clear that they are gunning for Tim Cook and his team out there in Cupertino.

And up until now, the effectiveness of Microsoft's ads have been questionable at best—it's tough to proclaim your product is better than another when sales and reviews suggest the opposite. But these new commercials have to be the worst yet...

Unlocked 16GB Yellow iPhone 5c first to sell out

The iPhone 5c became available for pre-order at 12:00 am PST this morning. Since then, hundreds of thousands (millions?) of people around the globe have placed orders for the new handset with Apple or one of its retail partners.

And for the most part, launch day supplies have held up. Last year, it only took an hour for iPhone 5 shipping times to slip on certain models. But this year, most configurations of the iPhone 5c remain available 10 hours after launch...

FlowDoku makes the game of Sudoku a little less intimidating

I’ve never been very good at Sudoku. Whenever I try, I get all jumbled up around the bottom few grids. For me, it is because the numbers are so daunting. I see a bunch of numbers and all I can think of is math.

FlowDoku lets you have the experience of solving Sudoku-type puzzles without the intimidation of looking at series of seemingly unconnected numbers. Instead, you solve the puzzles with shapes…

iPhone 5s online orders to start at 12.01am PST on September 20

The iPhone 5c might already be available for pre-order, but for some reason, Apple will not let you pre-order the flagship iPhone 5s. We speculated why, but we'll probably never know for sure the reasoning behind this decision.

If it's been clear since this week's event that the iPhone 5s would be available in store on the 20th, the exact time hadn't been made official until today, when Apple sent an email to customers saying the iPhone would be available for order online at 12.01am PST (3am EST)...
