Yahoo Weather app updated with iPad support and more

Yahoo posted a significant update for its weather app this weekend, bringing the software to version 1.5. The update includes the ability to share the weather via Mail, Messages and social media, as well as iPad support.

That's right. Folks who really like the beautiful design, layout, and interactions of the iPhone Yahoo Weather app—things that made it one of the most popular weather apps of 2013—can now experience it on their tablet...

Apple offers free Lorde single in ’12 Days of Gifts’ app

Last week, Apple updated its '12 Days of Gifts' app for the 2013 holiday season. The update was a fairly significant one, because for the first time ever, the company opened up access to the application for folks in the United States.

And Apple is celebrating the occasion by giving away a free gift early. While the actual 12 Days of Gifts event isn't scheduled to begin until December 26, users with the app installed right can pick up Lorde's new single 'No Better.'

iDB holiday gift guide 2013: Lory’s picks

There is still two weeks until Christmas. If you order gifts online within the next few days, you probably won’t even have to pay extra for expedited shipping. If you are still trying to think of something to buy for the person who has everything, check out our holiday gift guide for ideas. Similar to last year, the writers at iDownloadBlog have compiled a list of favorite gift ideas.

Below is my list of favorites for this year. Basically, I thought of a list of things that, either I own myself and love, or hope someone reading will get for me this year (hint, hint). I’ve included gift ideas for music fans, business minded iPad users, and that special geek in your life...

New concept reimagines Apple TV interface with iOS 7-like design, Siri and more

Now that Apple has rebuilt iOS for its iPhone and iPad, the question is: will the new design make the leap to the Apple TV? Apple continues to refer to the set-top box as 'a hobby,' as it has quietly added several new apps and features to its software.

So let's just say that, for the sake of argument, Apple is planning to bring iOS 7's UI design to a future version of the Apple TV software. What would it look like? Well according to designer Andrew Ambrosino, it would look a little something like this...

Pod2g denies claims that jailbreak was stolen from evad3rs

If you've noticed a shortage of jailbreak news on iDB lately, that's simply because there hasn't been any to give. While the evad3rs are hard at work hacking iOS 7, we've heard little about their progress since planetbeing's 'all the pieces' tweet in October.

This changed, though, last week, when reports began surfacing that someone close to the group had stolen a jailbreak from them and sold it to a private buyer. But evad3rs member pod2g has denied the claim, and says the iOS 7 JB is progressing slowly...

'Tis the season to be merry! Getting back on track with seasonally appropriate images for the Wallpapers of the Week section, today the walls are festively natured. iDownloadBlog sponsors JailbreakCon 2014

I am happy to report that for the third year, iDownloadBlog is an official media sponsor of WWJC, the first (and so far only) major event dedicated to jailbreaking.

Just like the first edition of the event, WWJC 2014 will be held in San Francisco. If the location of the event is a sure thing, the date is still pending, but we're being told it could happen around April or May.

The date options are actually interesting...

Vine updated with ability to hide revines when browsing user profiles

Twitter's Vine app, which happens to be one of our favorite social networking apps, was updated this weekend with a handful of improvements. The new version, which is marked as 1.4.5, includes bug fixes, support for new languages and a new feature.

And that feature is a big one. After updating, Vine iPhone users will have the ability to hide revines when browsing a user's profile feed. So that means you will no longer have to scroll through countless revined videos to get to a user's self-made content...

Tim Cook talks Apple, equality and more in Auburn Lifetime Achievement Award speech

Apple's CEO Tim Cook was presented a lifetime achievement award from Auburn University at an event last week in New York. Cook graduated from the Alabama-based university in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering.

The CEO was of course on hand to accept the award, and as usual, gave quite the speech. We've got the video of the speech after the fold, where you can watch Cook talk about Apple, the progression of human equality in the United States, and more...

Retina iPad mini shipping times improve to 1-3 days for many countries

Good news for folks trying to snag an iPad mini with Retina display in time for the holidays. Shipping times for the popular tablet have improved in Apple’s web store to 1-3 days for the US, Canada and several other countries.

This applies to all configurations of the new mini, including both Space Gray and Silver colorways and Wi-Fi + Cellular models. And it means that, if you order soon, you can still get one shipped out for free before Christmas…
