Foursquare updated ahead of Swarm app launch

Foursquare, the popular location-based social platform, is set to release a brand new Swarm app today which will "help people keep up and meet up with their friends".

As a result, the existing free iOS client has just been updated with some changes you should know about. Announced two weeks ago, Swarm combines new mayorships, introduces stickers, offers detailed insights about your life and much more.

Arcade shooter JoyJoy graces iOS

Canalys: 34% of smartphones sold last quarter had displays larger than 5-inches

This fall, Apple is rumored to unveil not one, but two new iPhones: one with a 4.7-inch display, and a larger 5.5-inch model. The move doesn't really echo the company's previous handset strategy, but it's not hard to see why it would make sense.

When it comes to smartphone displays, big is in. According to a new report from Canalys, sales of smartphones with displays 5-inches or larger grew 369% last quarter, and they accounted for more than 1/3 of all smartphones sold worldwide...

Apple’s Beats acquisition may not be finalized until next week

Following the flurry of reports late last week regarding Apple's plan to acquire Beats Electronics, a lot of folks expected the iPad-maker to comment on the matter after the long weekend. But Monday came, and went, without a single word from Cupertino.

As it turns out, that may be because it isn't a done deal yet. Citing people familiar with the transaction, Recode's Peter Kafka is reporting that Apple's Beats acquisition is taking longer than originally expected, and it may not be finalized until next week...

Shazam updated with new results page, Line integration and more

Shazam updated its mobile app this afternoon, bringing the iOS client to version 7.6. The update brings about a handful of improvements for the song ID software, including a new results page and support for LINE messaging.

The new results page makes for a better experience while 'shazaming' TV shows, as you'll now be able to see a full cast list, as well as catch up on story lines and gossip. And you can then share those new results via the LINE app...

Facebook app gains offline posts, drafts/previews and snappier News Feed

Facebook has issued a major version 10.0 update to its free iOS client which now allows you to create posts even when you're without an Internet connection. Posts created in the offline mode will be saved as drafts and the app will automatically publish them when you're back online.

Moreover, the refreshed iPhone and iPad application now makes it easy to see what your posts will look like on Facebook before publishing.

Flappy Bird creator bringing game back in August with multiplayer

Vietnam-born Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen previously said he would be bringing the game back on the App Store.

For those totally oblivious to the phenomenon which has taken the gaming world by storm, Nguyen has willfully removed the game from the App Store back in February because it became "an addictive product", even though it was earning him $50,000 in daily ad revenue on average.

Having just been live from the New York Stock Exchange on CNBC's Closing Bell, Nguyen once again confirmed that the game will make a return to the App Store soon. This time around, he was willing to share some specifics and confirmed that Flappy Bird will include an all-new multiplayer mode...

Firmware update brings Multi Play and other new features to Mini Jambox

Jawbone yesterday released a significant firmware update for some of its Bluetooth speakers. The free update, which is specifically for the Mini Jambox, brings about several new features including Multi Play, LiveAudio, and more.

Jambox owners will probably be most interested in Multi Play, which enables you to wirelessly connect two of the bluetooth speakers for either double the volume, or to separate left and right channel audio for stereo-like playback...

Presentation Mode is now available in Evernote

Evernote, the hugely successful note-taking and productivity platform, today rolled out a new Presentation Mode to its mobile and desktop apps across Mac, Windows, iPhone and iPad devices.

Presentation mode allows you to connect your computer to an external monitor or projector to present your notes in style as beautiful full-screen scrollable layouts.

And if you're using Evernote for iOS, AirPlay will wirelessly beam the presentation to an external display through Apple's $99 Apple TV media-streaming box...

iPhone now accounts for 36.6 percent of Japanese mobile phone market

According to a new report from Bloomberg, the iPhone now accounts for more than one-third of Japan's mobile phone market. Citing data from MM Research Institute Ltd, the outlet says shipments for Apple's smartphone jumped to 36.6% in the year-ended March.

That's a sizable jump from the previous year, where the iPhone held some 25% of the market, and it's all thanks to NTT Docomo. Last September, Apple inked a deal with the company—which is the largest carrier in Japan—to finally start officially offering its handset...
