Google updates Gmail for iOS with iPhone 6 and 6 Plus support

The Internet giant Google has at last gotten around to updating the native Gmail application for iOS with native display support for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

As a result, owners of these new devices can finally enjoy crisp typography and user interface while taking full advantage of the bigger canvas to see more of their emails and inbox without scrolling.

Now available in the App Store free of charge, the new Gmail version 3.1415926 only lists native support for the new iPhone display sizes.

1Password updated with iPhone 6 support, Touch ID timeout improvements and more

Developer AgileBits on Monday issued 1Password 5.1 adding native display support for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and fixing a number of issues and oversights related to the Touch ID and PIN Code features.

This release also introduces some new capability such as the ability to add brand new tags to your items, enable or disable third-party custom keyboards within the Advanced Settings and more, while fixing “the most popular issues and crashes”.

1Password has recently gone the freemium route and now offers basic features free of charge, with advanced features available through Apple's In-App Purchases mechanism.

Barometer: a free app that showcases the iPhone 6 barometer sensor [Video]

Looking for a cool new free app to try on your brand new iPhone 6? Then look no further than Peter Breitling's Barometer—a new easy to use barometer app for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Barometer is an extremely simple app with a minimal design. It allows you to easily measure heights, such as when riding an elevator, check altitude, perform measurements, and more.

It's so cool that I deemed it worthy to create a video showcasing it in action. Have a look at our video demonstration of Barometer after the break.

How to play Super Nintendo games on your iOS 8 device

Although there is no iOS 8 jailbreak, there is still a way to add a Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) emulator. Because Nintendo is missing the opportunity to make millions of dollars by releasing their games to the Apple App Store, people have turned to emulators for years. Since the iPhone was jailbreakable, it seems there was some way to play the old classics.

Thanks to a tip from @flawlessfox, whom you may recognize as one of the JailbreakCon organizers, we tested the SNES emulator "SiOS" and can confirm it works quite well, especially on the iPhone 6 Plus. Step inside for quick step-by-step instructions and you will be enjoying your favorite SNES games in about 5 minutes time. Yes, you read it correctly, there is no jailbreak required.

Apple’s sapphire maker GT Advanced Technologies files for bankruptcy

GT Advanced Technologies, an Apple partner that runs the sophisticated manufacturing plant in Mesa, Arizona which churns out sapphire components for iOS devices, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Monday.

Filing for bankruptcy lets GT continue normal operations and meet its obligations until it reorganizes its business and negotiate new financing arrangements with its creditors.

As of September 29, 2014, the company has approximately $85 million of cash. The company owns and operate furnaces and related equipment on the behalf of Apple at the Mesa facility. Earlier this year, the iPhone maker said it will prepay $578 million for the equipment and related retooling. GT agreed to reimburse Apple for those funds over a period of five years beginning in 2015.

Facebook working on money transfers through Messenger app

As Apple gears up to mainstream mobile payments with the recently announced Apple Pay service launching later this month, the social networking giant Facebook is developing its own peer-to-peer payment service that should allow users of its Messenger software to transfer money between themselves, as discovered by iOS developer Andre Aude.

The solution simplifies money transfers by levering the existing Messenger infrastructure and user interface, allowing users to pay for goods directly in the chat window just like you would attach a photo or a location.

Ascend brings a gorgeous look to your iOS 7 Lock screen

A few weeks ago, we showed you ClassicLockScreen, a tweak by CoolStar and Phillip Tennen that provides over four different styles which you can apply to your Lock screen. Ascend is a somewhat similar jailbreak tweak by Ben Rosen that brings a gorgeous look to your Lock screen.

The tweak brings back the popular iOS 6 Slide to Unlock slider with an iOS 7-esque style along with a blurred background and top bar. Additionally, it gets rid of the round passcode buttons and replaces it with a flatter interface and a transparent background. The same applies to the notifications that appear on the Lock screen.

The MOTO TC is a fun iPhone controlled rally race car

If you are ready to hit the pavement, I suggest grabbing the Griffin MOTO TC Rally iPhone controlled toy car. That's right, no additional hardware is required, just your iPhone and the Bluetooth 4.0 controlled race car. As a child, teenager, and even as an adult, one of the biggest rushes in the toy world is remote controlling a toy car. Growing up, I used to make race tracks in the pine needles behind my parent's house. Not much has changed.

Bringing my childhood excitement in line with the 21st century, the MOTO TC is not only iPhone controlled, but also utilizes virtual damage control, weapon systems, and can monitor lap times. It is essentially like playing a console racing game, but with actual hardware.

Monochrome applies shades of grey to your app icons

If you ever wanted to bring a classic look to your Home screen icons, you should probably check out a new jailbreak tweak called Monochrome that squeezes out all the colors from the app icons on the Home screen and brings a simplistic look to them.

Developed by Ron Thakrar, the tweak applies shades of grey to all the app icons on the Home screen, just like the classical black and white movies, bringing a more simplistic look to your Home screen. The wallpaper color will remain as is, but if you want to take it a little further, you can use a black and white wallpaper to better suit the grey icons, although it would have been a nice addition if the tweak already came equipped with this feature.

Steve Jobs tribute wallpapers for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

Three years ago today, Steve Jobs passed just after seeing the iPhone 4s revealed the day prior. On Friday, Tim Cook sent an internal email to Apple employees encouraging them to keep Steve on their minds today, each in his or her own way. Regardless of your opinion about Apple products, it is clear Steve Jobs changed the way we interact on a daily basis, create content, and share our discoveries or creations.

Inside, we offer six wallpapers for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus that celebrate Steve. Additionally, we encourage you to share images, wallpapers, or items in the comment section that make you think of Steve. Or share an image that shows how you love your Apple device.
