Flume review: view your Instagram feed in a dedicated Mac app

Most people view their Instagram account via the official mobile app. However, you can check out your feed right from the Internet in most web browsers, and it looks pretty cool because the pictures are much bigger.

Flume is a dedicated Instragam viewer for Mac that creates a lovely experience different from what you see on the official website. We've got a full app review of Flume for you today.

Watch how fast the iPhone 6s chews through the initial Cydia setup screen

When you first launch Cydia after a successful jailbreak, you're met with a message that says something like this: Preparing Filesystem. Cydia will exit when complete.

That's a very familiar screen to us jailbreakers, and it's something that we've grown accustomed to waiting on for extended periods of time...unless you own an iPhone 6s, that is.

Whereas older devices can take up to a couple of minutes to get through this part of the jailbreak journey, the iPhone 6s tears through it like a pack of ravenous wolves. Watch our video and see for yourself.

Forcy adds 3D Touch-inspired gestures to all iOS 9 devices

Forcy is a brand new jailbreak tweak, one of the first newly created tweaks for the iOS 9 jailbreak, that allows you to enable 3D Touch-inspired gestures on any iOS 9 device. The gestures, which are impressively similar to what you'd find on 3D Touch-enabled devices like the iPhone 6s, allow you to take advantage of the Home screen app icon shortcuts made popular on Apple's most recently released iPhone hardware.

Forcy is available right now for free on Cydia's BigBoss repo. Have a look at our video walkthrough to see how it works.

Apple releases OS X 10.11.1 beta 4 to developers and public testers

Apple on Wednesday seeded the fourth beta of OS X El Capitan 10.11.1 to developers and public testers. The new build is available to registered developers via the Updates section of the Mac App Store or through Apple’s Developer Center. Public testers can also find it in the Updates section of the MAS, or via the public beta portal.

How to manually remove System Preferences panes from your Mac

Some third-party apps you install on your Mac might nest custom panes within OS X's System Preferences, mostly those distributed outside the Mac App Store due to sandboxing requirements. Uninstalling such an app automatically removes the underlying pane from System Preferences but not always, leaving you scratching your head.

Case in point: Tuxera's MacFUSE, a dynamically loadable kernel extension.

I needed to mount files to an NTFS-formatted drive the other day so I installed MacFUSE. After removing the app a few days later using its own uninstaller, I noticed its pane in System Preferences was left intact. Should that happen to you, here's how you can safely remove stubborn System Preferences panes from your Mac.

Twelve South launches Forté stand for Apple Watch

Apple-exclusive accessory maker Twelve South released its HiRise charging stand for the Apple Watch back in the summer.

As I noted in my review, the only thing holding it and other Apple Watch stands back is a somewhat complicated setup requiring you to assemble the pieces yourself, including using the inductive charging disc that came with your watch.

Now Twelve South has created the Forté as a brand new Apple Watch stand that supports both portrait and Nightstand modes while allowing you to simultaneously rest your iPhone on the base of the accessory.

CBS chief again says the network intends to sign up for Apple’s TV service

CBS's Les Moonves on Wednesday reiterated that the network intends to sign up for Apple's upcoming TV service. During an interview with Bloomberg, the CEO again indicated that recent discussions with the Cupertino company will probably lead to a content deal.

“Apple is having conversations with everyone about doing their own streaming services,” Moonves told the hosts of Bloomberg TV. “We have had those conversations, as have the other networks. Do I think something will happen? Probably, but I do not know when.”

Google Translate gains Split View multitasking

Google's native translator app in the App Store has received a productivity-focused update earlier this morning. The free of charge software was bumped to version 4.2 and the big news in this edition is support for iOS 9's side-by-side Split View multitasking mode on supported devices like the iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4 and the upcoming iPad Pro.

In addition to Split View multitasking, Google Translate 4.2 for iOS has picked up camera translation from German and English to Arabic, joining other language packs.

Badland by indie developer Frogmind, is one of the best survival games on any platform. In Badland, the player flies around a little black creature named Clony through the surreal, beautifully rendered woods.

Starting today, you can use 3D Touch gestures on your iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus to quickly access the built-in editor or continue playing the single player campaign right from the Home screen. In addition, 3D Touch allows a brand new kind of puzzles and gameplay with all-new force objets.

Apple Music and iTunes Match scan-and-match quadrupling to 100,000 songs by year end

Following last month's iOS 9 release, Apple's failed to raise the song-matching limit to 100,000 tracks.

Eddy Cue, Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services, said back in the summer that Apple was “working to” quadruple the scan-and-match song limit by iOS 9's release.

In an effort to clarify the situation, MacRumors reached out to Cue and got the definitive confirmation that the limit for matched Apple Music and iTunes Match libraries will raise from the current 25,000 tracks to 100,000 songs “before the end of the year.”
