Teardown analysis of Magic accessories finds chips from other Apple products and more tidbits

Repair experts over at iFixit have performed an interesting triple teardown of Apple's latest Magic accessories—the Magic Mouse 2, Magic Trackpad 2 and Magic Keyboard—and found that all three devices are outfitted with many of the same chips also found in other Apple products.

On the downside, Apple's unified approach to engineering the new Magic devices has resulted in just 3 out of 10 in iFixit's Repairability ratings due to high level of integration and excessive amount of adhesive.

The Magic Mouse 2’s Lightning port location isn’t the problem it’s being made out to be

As soon as I saw the location of the Lightning port for recharging Apple's new Magic Mouse 2, I knew that a mini outrage was imminent. It took a while, but I guess everyone's Magic Mouse 2 finally arrived in the mail. Thus, let the outrage commence!

Did Apple commit a design faux pas by placing a Lightning port on the bottom of the mouse, rendering it useless while the device is charging? Is it really that big of a deal?

NewsOfTheWorld: a new jailbreak tweak for enabling Apple News in all regions

If you live in a region outside of the United States and wish to access Apple News, there's now a jailbreak tweak method for doing so. There is a way to access Apple News in restricted regions on non-jailbroken devices, but that involves changing region settings on your iPhone, which can be annoying, and it can act finicky as well.

NewsOfTheWorld is a brand new jailbreak tweak, from well-known developer Hamza Sood, that makes it easy to get Apple News in all regions. All it takes is a jailbroken iOS 9 device, and a couple of reboots.

Analyst predicts 100% of Apple’s A10 chip orders will be handled by TSMC

Bad news for Samsung as rival Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has been predicted to account for a cool 100 percent of orders for Apple's next-generation A10 processor expect to serve as the powerful engine for 2016 iPhones and iPads.

Taiwanese media quoted a JP Morgan analyst as saying that Samsung will be left out entirely from the lucrative contract to build these chipsets. The current A9 and A9X processors are being built by both TSMC and Samsung.

Smart Keyboard for iPad Pro will only be available with U.S. English layout at launch

Apple's Smart Keyboard for the iPad Pro will only be available with a U.S. English layout when it launches in about two weeks, a move that might potentially discourage international users from purchasing the $169 accessory.

This has been revealed in the fine print that the Cupertino company quietly added to its German website, as first noted by German-language blog iFun.de.

iPad Pro and Apple Pencil approved by FCC

With about two weeks left until the official launch of the iPad Pro and the Apple Pencil, the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has approved both devices, GforGames reported today.

Both the Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + Cellular models of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro have received final approval yesterday, October 15, documents published by the FCC reveal.

RevealMenu is yet another tweak that brings 3D Touch-like functionality to older devices

There are now several tweaks that attempt to bring the iPhone 6s' flagship feature to older devices. The latest such tweak is called RevealMenu, and it contains one particular feature that makes it unique when compared to some of the other 3D Touch-esque tweaks that I've tried.

RevealMenu allows users to long-press on an icon to invoke a 3D Touch-like overlay menu, but it also allows you to slide your finger directly to the menu without lifting your finger off the screen. In my opinion, that single gesture is what makes 3D Touch's shortcut feature really shine. Many of the other 3D Touch-inspired tweaks didn't allow you to do that, and that's what makes RevealMenu worth checking out.

Apple posts new iPhone 6s ad highlighting 3D Touch

Apple on Thursday posted a new iPhone 6s commercial, with a special focus on its new 3D Touch feature. During the ad, you hear a voiceover explain how Peek and Pop work, followed by a list of several things you can do with them.

In typical Apple fashion, most of the tasks covered by the voiceover are demonstrated by users on-screen. At one point we even see actor/singer Jamie Foxx, who uses 3D Touch in the Music app to access his just-released R&B album.

Apex 2 updated with support for iOS 9

Coming soon after the release of the Pangu jailbreak for iOS 9 on Wednesday, A3Tweaks has released an update for Apex 2 that introduces iOS 9 compatibility.

As one of several jailbreak tweaks created by the well-known jailbreak development group A3Tweaks, Apex allows users to hide Home screen icons by tucking them under other icons of a similar category, removing the need for excessive folders. A simple swipe will reveal the grouped apps, allowing them to be launched with a tap.

iOS 9: should you jailbreak?

Every year, it seems jailbreaking loses a little bit of its appeal. It's not that the community is dying. It's just that hardware and software upgrades brought to iOS devices can make it a little less compelling to jailbreak.

If you are on the fence about jailbreaking, take a moment and read the next few paragraphs. I won't try to convince you to make the jump, because ultimately, jailbreaking is a personal decision, which as you will see, has much more drawbacks than benefits to offer.
