Delay your Lock screen auto-dimming feature with this tweak

I often get asked about how to delay the Lock screen's auto-dimming feature, and it would seem that a viable solution has conveniently slipped into Cydia this week.

Dubbed CustomLockscreenDuration, this new free jailbreak tweak by iOS developer Andreas Henriksson lets you choose how long of a delay there is before your Lock screen falls asleep. This is great for anyone who uses Lock screen-related mods, because the screen sometimes tends to dim while you're interacting with the tweaks.

After installation, you can head right into the Settings app, where you will find a preferences pane tailored around configuring the dim timer:

If you’ve ever used the YouTube app on your iPhone before, then you know Google has good taste in what a volume HUD should look like. Obviously, the monstrosity of a volume HUD that Apple continues to impose on iOS users is not something said users like to see, as it gets in the way of everything.

Because Google has the right idea, iOS developer midkin decided to create a YouTube-inspired volume HUD system that’s made to work across your whole iOS system. As a result, the new free jailbreak tweak YouTubeVolume was born.

69 new emoji coming this summer, including shush face, T-Rex, fortune cookie & more

The Unicode Consortium yesterday previewed an additional 69 new emoji characters coming this summer as part of Emoji 5.0. Some of the newly proposed faces, foods, creatures and other characters include the Tyrannosaurus Rex, a mermaid, fortune cookie, shush face and more.

All of these new emoji characters are technically still in draft mode, but Unicode is expected to release the final version this summer.

Revised version of iTunes 12.6 removes non-functional “Show on Profile Page” toggle

iTunes 12.6 was released alongside a slew of Apple product refreshes three days ago, bringing the ability to watch iTunes movies rented in the app on your other devices, and vice versa. Interestingly, the app shipped with a new Show on Profile Page toggle that a Reddit user discovered on the Playlist Edit page. Late yesterday, Apple issued a revised build of iTunes which, as first spotted by MacRumors, removes that option.

T-Mobile unveils two anti-scam network features, here’s how to enable them

Wireless carrier T-Mobile on Friday announced a pair of new anti-scam features aimed at blocking robocalls and scam calls on your iPhone or other smartphone. Called Scam ID and Scam Block, the new tools were designed to either automatically block incoming calls identified by the system as scam (Scam Block) or warn you that a call is coming from a mobile phone number possibly related to spammers (Scam ID).

Apple: iPhone and Mac vulnerabilities detailed in WikiLeaks CIA dump were fixed years ago

WikiLeaks yesterday published a new batch of internal CIA documents which highlighted some of the hacks and programs that the spy organization has been developing internally for years. Those tools were specifically designed to infest Apple’s all-in-one iMac desktop and MacBook notebooks if an agent was able to gain physical access to the device.

One of the methods involved utilized patched Thunderbolt EFI exploit. Apple told TechCrunch that the documents detail old exploits fixed years ago.

The red iPhone can be purchased worldwide via Apple's online stores and brick-and-mortar locations. What’s AT&T Stream Saver and how to turn it off?

Stream Saver is a new feature from AT&T that allows users to save cellular data by automatically streaming higher definition videos at a standard definition (480p). This feature has now officially been rolled out to all AT&T customers that are on a voice + data plan.

While Stream Saver can be a great feature if you're on a limited data plan, it can also be overkill if you have a large data cap, or even an unlimited one. If you fall under that category and want to keep enjoying videos you stream in their full resolution, it may not be a bad idea to disable Stream Saver which has been turned on by default for all eligible AT&T customers.

Still enjoying iTunes despite the beautiful mess it has become on macOS? If the answer is yes, perhaps listen up for this one. Every once in a while, seemingly low-key and low-price apps pop up in the market, claiming to have identified an imperfection or gap in Apple’s software, and in the next breath promising the fix for it. Some of these apps are superfluous to the user for the simple reason that the touted feature is already in place in Apple’s mothership software (in some shape or form), other apps are gimmicky or overly flawed.

Put simply, to speed up or slow down your iTunes playback, an option otherwise notably absent on macOS. If this sounds surprisingly succinct or sober to you, that’s because it is.

Speed-Up treasures simplicity over bells & whistles, and is probably worth a look if you have ever caught yourself wishing for a speed lever in the thick of an Audiobook or Podcast session on your MacBook.
