Apple's affordable $99 HomePod mini smart speaker has been found to include a secret sensor for measuring room temperature and humidity that the company could potentially activate in the future with a software update to bring new functionality to customers.
The iPad offers the same useful Control Center interface that the iPhone and iPod touch do, and while that’s great, it’s also the biggest problem.
While Control Center’s features are both convenient and useful, the issue I take with the interface on the iPad is that it leaves so much screen real estate unused. In fact, it’s literally an iPhone’s Control Center interface crammed at the edge of the iPad’s large display.
The very first thing that most iPhone and iPad users do after opening a new tab in Safari is tap on the URL bar at the top of the interface to begin entering a new website URL or search query. With that in mind, wouldn’t it make perfect sense if the keyboard popped up automatically upon launching a new tab?
If you answered yes to that question, then I’d lean to agree with you. In fact, I find it rather odd that Apple hasn’t thought around the same lines.
Space wallpapers are a popular theme on the iDB Wallpapers of the Week gallery. This week, we bring you images directly from the surface of Mars. Thanks to the NASA Mars 2020 Mission, the wallpapers in todays collection come directly from that Martian surface. These Mars Perseverance wallpapers showcase the red planet's rough surface and thick atmosphere.
Many jailbreakers were saddened when developer Matt Clarke reaffirmed that the ReProvision on-device app signing service that many used to keep their jailbreak apps signed without a computer wouldn’t receive any further official updates; not even to fix the post-January 28th app-crashing issue triggered by a server-side change on Apple’s behalf. It was henceforth officially EOL (end of life).
Riley Testut’s AltServer and AltStore combo offered a viable alternative to ReProvision, however it too was impacted by the same issue. The only difference? AltServer and AltStore received updates to address Apple’s server-side changes so that the end user wouldn’t suffer app crashes, while ReProvision did not. On the other hand, a third-party band-aid was later made available for ReProvision users.
The jailbreak community has been particularly charged over the course of the past several weeks following unc0ver’s newfangled support for iOS & iPadOS 14.0-14.3 and the teasers comprising of CoolStar’s upcoming iOS & iPadOS 14.0-14.3 jailbreak.
Of course, the excitement surrounding these jailbreaks and the hype has also resulted in an explosion of recent iOS 14-centric jailbreak tweaks. This roundup will go over all the latest ones released between Monday, March 15th and Sunday, March 21st.
New in iOS 14 are colorful Status Bar-based dot indicators that alert you to when your handset’s camera or microphone are being used – a commendable feature with respect to privacy.
By default, the camera indicator dot appears green, while the microphone indicator dot appears a light orange. Unfortunately, there’s no way to change these colors on a stock device.
If you’re jailbroken and you’re interested in adding a splash of color or personality to your iPhone or iPad’s Now Playing widget, then we’ve got just the thing for you!
Playour is a newly released jailbreak tweak by iOS developer popsicletreehouse that lets users customize the background, color, and border properties of the Now Playing widget.
As a jailbreaker, I appreciate just how easy AltServer and AltStore make the process of side-loading semi-untethered jailbreak apps like Odyssey and unc0ver to my iPhones and iPads. On the other hand, it can be burdensome to keep track of how many more days those apps will work before they need to be signed again.
The AltStore app provides a handy native-style widget for iOS & iPadOS 14 devices that can help you keep track, but if you prefer something more conspicuous, then we think there’s a high likelihood that you’ll appreciate a newly released and free jailbreak tweak called IconCert 14 by iOS developer Hao Nguyen (haoict).
If you have a pair of AirPods Pro or AirPods Max at your disposal, then chances are you’ve become somewhat fond of their Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency modes. The only problem? – Switching between those modes in a pinch, especially in rapid succession, tends to be a cumbersome two-step process.
Recognizing that this process could do with some refinements, iOS developer exodia9610 conceived a new and free jailbreak tweak known as QuickANC.
Apple, being a major player in the music streaming service sector with Apple Music, spends a lot of time refining the music consumption experience on its devices. In fact, we’d even go as far as to say that iPhones and iPads have some of the best music consumption interfaces in the industry.
Still, unless you’re physically inside of the Music app or another music apps of your choosing, the only other places you can go to interact with your media playback will be the Lock Screen, Notification Center, or Control Center. These are always a gesture away, and for someone who wants instantaneous access to music playback controls, that’s one gesture too many.
Is Apple a services company these days? It's certainly possible to make that argument. And being in the Apple ecosystem probably means you pay for at least a couple of different options offered by the company. But with so many other offerings out there, it can be a task simply choosing which ones to keep.
