Just about 24 hours after releasing macOS Sierra 10.12.2 beta 2 to developers, Apple has now pushed the software to public testers as well. Members of the public beta program can update to beta 2 directly from the Mac App Store.
macOS Sierra 10.12.2 doesn't seem to offer many new user-facing features besides a myriad of new emojis that are part of unicode 9. Other improvements are apparently under the hood, likely offering bug fixes and stability improvements.
Apple on Wednesday announced that it is now possible to link directly to Apple TV apps, making it easier for users to download apps for the larger screen. Using the Link Maker, developers, app reviewers, and just about anyone can easily link to a tvOS app, something that was not possible until now.

In a piece for MacWorld, Jason Snell looks back at this lackluster year for the Mac where expectations were high, but where Apple failed to deliver on many levels. And where it delivered, it seems that it did so by alienating some of its core base of users while increasing prices on everybody else.
Apple captured 103.6% of smartphone industry profits in the third quarter of 2016, making it by far the most profitable company in the business, according to BMO Capital Markets analyst Tim Long. This represents a notable increase from the year-ago quarter where Apple had grabbed 90% of smartphones profits.
Apple has started rolling out the anticipated Single Sign-On feature to iOS 10.2 and tvOS 10.1 beta users. Available for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV, Single Sign-On is currently limited to a small amount of TV providers, including Dish, GVTC Communications, Hotwire, and Sling TV.
The idea of having a camera on your Apple Watch is an interesting one. As tech becomes smaller and batteries become more capable, this is definitely a direction Apple will take at some point, but we're just too early in development.
That's where a startup comes in with CMRA, a band for Apple Watch that adds not one, but two HD cameras to the strap, allowing you to easily and quickly shoot photos or record videos. Well, in theory anyway.
Online visitor stats tool StatCounter reported on Tuesday that worldwide internet traffic coming from mobile surpassed that of desktop for the first time in October. A clear sign of the times, StatCounter found that global mobile and tablet devices accounted for 51.3% of internet usage compared to 48.7% for desktop.

Chuq Von Rospach has a great piece about how Apple could have avoided much of the controversy following last week's Mac event. It's a great read, but the one line I will remember is that one:
