Jet black and micro-abrasions: how iPhone 7 holds up a month later

Now that I've been using my jet black iPhone 7 for a little over a month, I figured it'd be depressing interesting to look at the state of that high-gloss finish and see how it's fared over that short period of time.

In previous years, this was not even a concern, but the fragility of the new jet black finish has been under scrutiny since day one, especially as Apple itself noted that jet black devices would be prone to micro-abrasions.

Let’s Talk iOS 157: That sounds cray cray

Cody finally gets to try the new Portrait mode on his iPhone 7 Plus. The guys discuss the latest in the Samsung debacle while still keeping it classy and respectful. Other topics of discussion include Apple cutting back on Project Titan, Tim Cook talking about AR, crazy iPhone 8 rumors, and a cool new app to import your Health data into a new iPhone.

Apple seeds iOS 10.1 beta 4 to developers and public beta testers

Apple today released a fourth beta of iOS 10.1 to its registered developers and public beta testers. Coming just a week after the previous beta, iOS 10.1 beta 4 has an interesting build number of “14B72 | 14B72b”. Today's release does not, however, appear to contain any outward-facing user features. We'll make sure to update the article with any new information as it becomes available.

How to move your Health data from one iPhone to another

When developer Dan Loewenherz got his new iPhone 7 last month, he looked for a way to migrate his old iPhone's Health data into his new one. He eventually stumbled on a post I wrote about how to export and import your Health data last year, but he was surprised the process wasn't easier. So he decided to develop his own app. Enters Health Data Importer.

How to hide Skype calls from the Phone app on your iPhone

Apple has recently introduced CallKit, a new framework available to developers that allows them to integrate their VoIP apps with the native Phone app user interface. In essence, this is a great addition that puts VoIP apps at virtually the same level as normal phone calls. Incoming Skype or WhatsApp calls, for example, are now displayed fully on the Lock screen, which is an improvement compared to how these calls were handled prior to iOS 10. Likewise, any call placed or received with a supported VoIP app will be logged into the Phone app like a normal call.

This tight integration of VoIP apps and the native Phone app UI can have a downside for some users who might prefer not to see their recent Skype calls history show up in their Phone app. If you're one of these people, we'll show you exactly how to stop Skype from showing recent calls in your Phone app.

watchOS 3.1 beta 3 now available for developers

Apple on Wednesday made watchOS 3.1 beta 3 available to developers. The release notes don't seem to indicate any new features have been added, but rather that Apple is now focusing on bug fixes and stability improvements, which is to be expected at this point in time.

Let’s Talk iOS 156: Mostly about Samsung and the Google Pixel

After briefly talking about the new ads in App Store search results and a new feature of iOS 10.1 beta, Cody and Sebastien spend most of the episode talking about the Samsung debacle as well as the new Google Pixel phone.
