The Verizon iPhone Has a Different Antenna

You might remember that the iPhone 4 was hit by a pretty big controversy about its antenna design shortly after it was released. Known as the antennagate, this issue could easily be replicated simply by wrapping your hand around the bottom of the phone, which is how 90% of people actually hold their phones.

It seems that Apple went back to the drawing board and came up with a slightly different antenna design for the Verizon iPhone. If you look at the 2 images below, you will see that the tiny black breaks between the different parts of the antenna are at different spots...

The Details About the Verizon iPhone

As expected Steve Jobs didn't show up this morning to introduce the Verizon iPhone. Instead, his #2, Apple's COO Tim Cook shared the stage with Verizon COO Lowell McAdam.

Tim's minute talk was quite disappointing. He clearly was here to make this look more legit, sharing a few basic facts about the Verizon iPhone (Retina Display, A4 chip, FaceTime, App Store, etc...) but didn't share any technical information.

Now let's have a closer look at what we know from the Verizon iPhone...

Verizon Finally Gets the iPhone

After months years of anticipation, the iPhone is finally coming to Verizon.

Lowell McAdam took the stage this morning and after making an introduction touting the merits of his network, Verizon's COO, he finally dropped the bomb that everyone expected: the Verizon iPhone.

Our relationship with Apple has developed over the last two years. In 2008 we started talking about bringing the iPhone to a CDMA network. We spent a year testing. Late in 2010 we started offering the iPad... today, we are extremely gratified to announce that the iPhone 4 will be available early next month.

More to come in a minute... Stay tuned!

Apple Drops iPhone 3GS Price to $49

4 days after AT&T slashed the price of the iPhone 3GS, it's now Apple who's discounting the previous iPhone model to the same $49 price tag. I think this move isn't so much related to the Verizon iPhone being announced tomorrow, but rather to getting rid off their old inventory.

If you don't care about owning the latest and bestest, then the iPhone 3GS at $49 is a hell of a deal. If like me you do like to get the latest gadget, you may want to wait until June/July, when the iPhone 5 will be released...

Verizon iPhone to Be Announced Next Tuesday?

Here it is folks. It appears I was wrong when I predicted there wouldn't be a Verizon iPhone this year as many tech writers/bloggers are receiving a mysterious invitation to an event that's going to happen on 1.11.11.

It's no surprise that we didn't get invited but some high profile Apple bloggers were. MG Siegler of TechCrunch for example, got a personal invite. Siegler confirms that it is the first time Verizon sends him an invite directly. Other Apple-related experts claim they received a similar invitation...

I Made More Money Than Steve Jobs Last Year

Yes, I made more money than Steve Jobs in 2010. Can you believe that? Chances are, if you worked for a minute or so in 2010, you too made more money than Apple's CEO. That's because Steve-o took a symbolic one-dollar salary for the year that ended.

This being said, don't feel bad for Mr Jobs because the total value of his Apple shares is worth over 1.8 billion dollars. Not bad, huh?

Installous Gets A Major Update

Infamous jailbreak application Installous just had a major update and now looks better than it ever did. For those of you who don't know, Installous is an application that lets you download cracked apps on your iPhone. In short, it's like the App Store for cracked apps.

I have to admit that the app has been beautifully designed. It looks great and seems to work as advertised. This being said, we at iDB strongly disapprove of anything related to pirating apps...

Steve Jobs’ New Year Resolutions

A new year is always the right time to make resolutions. I personally stopped making resolutions years ago because I wouldn't stick to them. Instead I now make predictions, but that's a different story. It seems that Steve Jobs does however make resolutions, and plenty of them.

Scribbled on a Starbucks napkin, Steve's resolutions for 2011 were acquired by the Scoopertino's Team, after a rough battle with Gizmodo, which of course laid down the money to get it first.

At the top of the list is the resolution to keep the Verizon iPhone myth going...

Jailbroken iPhone Toy Will Sure Make Your Kid Happy

Forgot to buy your kid a gift for Christmas? Don't have more than a dollar to spend? This amazing smartphone might just be the perfect present for your spoiled little kido. This is not a just any toy. It is what seems to be a mix between the iPhone and some kind of Android phone.

Best of all, you may have noticed the little Cydia icon on the toy's screen. Whoever designed this is must be a serious jailbreak aficionado.

Turn Your iPhone Into a Skateboard

Ever wanted to turn your iPhone into a skateboard? Yeah, me neither but it's good to know that if we change our mind, we'll be able to. Of course this won't turn your iPhone into a real skateboard, but it will definitely give it the look and feel of one.

I just spotted this skateboard back cover and wraps on Etsy, and one thing is sure: the designer behind it did a great job at roughing up this iPhone 4 customization kit...

Does Geohot Have an Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1?

Well, well, well. Look what we found while perusing MuscleNerd's Twitter account... This could be an indication that prodigy iPhone hacker Geohot might be doing yet another come back, this time with an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1.

This tweet was sent by MuscleNerd a couple of days ago in reply to someone telling him, Chpwn and others to stop all the drama. Now this could be MuscleNerd's way of getting people off his back, or it could very well be the truth...
