Signs Point to a February 28 Release of iOS 4.3

If you've been patiently waiting for iOS 4.3, this might come as a good or bad news, depending on how you look at it. If that's any indication of the future iOS 4.3 release, the fine folks of this German website came across information that suggests Apple's latest iOS might be available to the general public on February 28.

This speculation is based on the fact that The Daily iPad app which was having a free trial until today, extended their trial period to February 28. Because The Daily is supposed to come on a subscription model which will be only available on iOS 4.3, it is safe to believe this firmware will come out on or around 2/28/11...

Cydia Blocked by Carriers in 3 Countries

There has been reports coming from 3 different countries that Cydia was blocked by carriers, making it impossible to load Cydia over 3G. So far, only 3 countries and 2 carriers have been reported to be blocking access to Cydia: 3 Ireland, 3 UK, and China Unicom.

When trying to load Cydia over 3G, iPhone users in these countries get an error message saying the page cannot be loaded. Cydia does work fine on wifi though.

I'm not as surprised by the blocking of Cydia as I am by the timing. It seems that the blocking from the carriers started at the same time, which leads me to believe this is an operation that has been discussed and planned in advance...

Geohot Raps About Sony’s Lawsuit

If you didn't know yet that Geohot was into hip hop, this one might come as a surprise to you. After being sued by Sony for jailbreaking the PlayStation 3, Geohot decided to respond via a rap video.

This is actually not bad at all. If the wonder kid doesn't make a career out of his hacking skills, I'm sure he'll still be able to make a living off his rapping capacities...

GreenPois0n Jailbreak Updated to RC6

The iPhone 4.2.1 jailbreak tool GreenPois0n has been updated to version RC6. This update brings support for the Apple TV and fixes emulators compatibility issues with GreenPois0n.

Since it came out last week, GreenPois0n has been updated several times, and can now also be used to jailbreak the Verizon iPhone. Although RedSn0w can also provide an untethered jailbreak, GreenPois0n still remains our recommended jailbreak for 4.2.1...

AT&T Offers 1,000 Free Minutes to iPhone Customers

Yesterday AT&T started sending text messages to its iPhone customers, offering them 1,000 bonus rollover minutes. After waiting a few hours for my SMS to come in, I kinda forgot all about it until I saw a tweet from TUAW's Victor Agreda confirming AT&T's "gift".

Don't you think AT&T has been very generous lately? First they offered unlimited data to some special customers, then they changed their texting plans to give us more for less, then they gave 20% off iPhone accessories and 2GB of free data to tethering customers, and finally, they are offering free mobile to mobile calling to some of their customers.

If I didn't know any better, I'd think that AT&T is trying to prevent us from switching to Verizon...

Apple to Bring in an App Developer to Revamp iOS Notification System?

Here is an interesting rumor started by Cult Of Mac, which claims that Apple is working on revamping their notification system. No big surprise here so far as the iOS notification system is passable at best, and usually is one of the top complains from heavy users.

The surprising bit of information is that Apple might be buying out an iPhone developer company, instead of working on its own. According to Cult of Mac, Apple is currently talking to one small developer to purchase his company to improve and integrate his work in a future version of iOS...

Apple Working on a Smaller and Cheaper iPhone Model?

It had been a while since we'd heard rumors of an iPhone nano. But today, the rumor mill is back on. According to Bloomberg, Apple is currently working on a smaller and cheaper version of the iPhone.

This smaller iPhone would be sold $200 without a contract. The goal here would obviously be to gain market shares against Google's Android who comes with dozens of various devices priced differently, aiming at a larger population...

Verizon iPhone Not as Successful as They Want You to Believe

Last week, Verizon started taking pre-orders for the iPhone 4 and issued a press release later on, highlighting how this pre-order day was the best day ever in terms of sales for Verizon. Because the press release didn't mention any number of units sold, I called BS on it and speculated that sales were probably much smaller than expected.

Today is the big day for Verizon. It's the first day where anyone and everyone can walk in a store (Apple, Verizon, Walmart, etc) and go home with a brand new Verizon iPhone. So I decided to jump in my car and go to the Apple Store and Verizon Store near me to see how they were doing. I expected 10 people or less at each store, but it seems I was too optimistic...
