Apps of the Week: Pitchfork, Zamurai, Voodo 2, and more…

About four days after Halloween, I get a call from my family asking whether I’ll be cooking Thanksgiving dinner. About a week after that, I usually get a call from my friends asking if I’m hosting this year’s White Elephant gift exchange. Yes, the Holidays have begun.

If you are looking for DIY party ideas, need an organizer, or just want to forget your troubles and do something fun, we have a list of apps and games that we think you will enjoy…

I dare you to beat my score at ins and outs

Thanks to Game Center, Facebook, and plenty of other social networking connected sites and services, we can play games against friends and family without having to be in the same room with them. We don’t even have to be on the same continent as them. Actually, we don’t even have to know them at all, in some circumstances.

ins and outs – a casual and competitive puzzle game is one of those games that focuses on competing against others in a friendly game of connect-the-dots. Instead of just inviting them to play the game, you get to entice them by putting the “dare” into it…

Best apps for your commute

Driving back and forth every day to the office can be a burden if your commute is more than 20 minutes on average, which it is for most people. If your drive lasts at least as long as a broadcast sitcom, you probably have a routine for keeping yourself from going mad on the road. If you don’t you should.

We have a list of apps that we think will help make your commute easier by letting you know what the traffic is like, how soon your bus will arrive, and where to find the cheapest parking lot in the city…

Death Tower: a good old-fashioned dungeon crawl for iOS

If you are looking for a new tower defense game, this is not the app you are looking for. If you are looking for a good old-fashioned dungeon crawl, complete with a well-rounded adventuring party, then you are in luck.

Death Tower is a turn-based battle heavy role-playing game that gives you four fighting characters that explore the vast expanse of a dark dungeon, killing bad guys and collecting loot…

Curator review: collect your ideas into a visual presentation

Some people just need to write down thoughts in a brainstorm-style format, or can organize their ideas with an outline. Others need a more visual way to plan, create, and develop thoughts and ideas.

Ace Patrol: Pacific Skies review – take the air battle to the seas

Sid Meier’s popular turn-based strategy flying game is back, only this time the battle takes place above the Pacific Sea with the U.S. against Japan as World War II is unfolding.

Ace Patrol: Pacific Skies is the sequel to the dogfight title that turned board game style playing into an epic battle that changed history. This time, you don’t have to worry about those pesky in-app purchases…

Massively multiplayer game Battle Command! attacks the App Store

Now that the iPad mini with Retina display has finally launched there will be more 64-bit tablets in the hands of gamers than ever before. Competing in massive player vs. player arena games on the iPad will be part of everyday activities.

Battle Command! is one of those that promises to bring massively multiplayer combat strategy gaming to mobile devices around the world. You can train alone or challenge others across the globe for battle supremacy…

Ultravisual review: Instagram for artistic photography

If there is one thing I’ve learned since I started writing for iDB it is that there are a few readers of this site that hate Instagram. Square pictures and filter overlays are like poison to some iPhone photography hobbyists.

Ultravisual is a social networking photography app that lets you upload and edit photos and videos without the limitations of the square aspect ratio. Plus, you can follow other users who have an eye for visually interesting images and curate your own category of media to share with others…

Sorcery! 2 review: the epic adventure continues

As an avid role-playing game fan, I am always up for a literary adventure. Whether it is a choose-your-own story or a tabletop group game base on the 20-sided die mechanics, I get a twinkle in my eye when someone says “RPG.”

Steve Jackson is a well-known author of gamebooks from the mid 1980s. His series Sorcery! was a big hit and the first adventure in the series was turned into a fantastic iOS game back in May. Today, the same company that developed Steve Jackson’s Sorcery! has launched a follow up game based on the second series in the original book. Sorcery! 2 follows the adventurer into “Khare: Cityport of Traps”...

Apps of the week: Tiny Death Star, Algebra Touch, TNR-e-US, and more…

This week was pretty big in terms of new games in the App Store. In fact the past couple of weeks have been very game heavy. You won’t hear me complaining. Games are my favorite kind of apps.

If you are a secret (or open) geek, want to relearn algebra, or just want to make pretty pictures, we have a list of apps and games to keep you busy this weekend…

Geeks rejoice, Stargate SG-1: Unleashed Ep 2 is now available

I’m pretty sure that all of the big wigs in the movie and television industry got together recently and decided to launch games for all of the geeks this week. This week saw the launch of Star Wars: Tiny Death Star, Sorcery! 2, and Lego Lord of the Rings. Those aren’t the only geek culture references, but they are big ones.

Stargate SG-1: Unleashed Ep 2 also launched in the App Store this week. Now, we can play along with all of our favorite sci-fi and fantasy characters in one day. Too bad Star Trek didn’t launch an app today, that would have really brought it full circle…
