AT&T preparing to launch shared data plans

Once Verizon announced its new 'shared data plan' strategy, we knew that it was only a matter of time before AT&T followed suit. As the two largest carriers in the US, the companies often take queues from one another.

AT&T's CEO all-but-confirmed the carrier's switch to shared data back in May of this year, but wouldn't give any specifics on a launch date. It can't be too far off though, as some users are already seeing the new plans...

European carriers stocking up on nano-SIMs ahead of new iPhone launch

Last month, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (or ETSI) gave Apple's nano-SIM card proposal the green light. The new card offers the same functionality as current SIM cards, but take up significantly less space.

According to a new report this afternoon, European carriers are expecting Apple to utilize the new card in its upcoming smartphone. And they've already begun stocking up on nano-SIMs in anticipation of an early fall release...

Is Siri’s magic wearing off?

When Apple unveiled Siri last fall, the tech world seemed genuinely excited. Sure, other platforms like Android and Windows Phone already had voice control, but Apple's assistant seemed to be on another level.

Over the next few months, however, that excitement slowly began to wear off. Siri's beta roots started showing with service outages, and a noticeable drop in accuracy. And then the lawsuits started to appear...

3 reasons to get excited about this year’s iPhone

It's October 4th, 2011, and Apple is hosting its highly anticipated iPhone event. SVP of Marketing Phil Schiller is on stage, and after about 5 minutes of discussing changes to the iPod line, he utters the words that everyone has been waiting to hear: "Next, iPhone."

A sense of disappointment spread throughout the tech world as Schiller went on to unveil a familiar-looking iPhone 4S. Where was this teardrop-shaped iPhone 5 that we had been hearing so much about? With the bigger screen, and LTE? What about all of those leaked cases?

Of course, the 4S would go on to be a huge hit for Apple. But the whole experience has left a lot of consumers with low expectations for this year's iPhone release. Well it's time to raise them. There are actually a few reasons why you should be excited about Apple's next handset...

Sprint officially launches its LTE network

Great news Sprint customers, your carrier has just officially joined the LTE party. As expected, the company flipped the switch on its next-generation network in 5 markets this weekend.

Believe it or not, this is actually Sprint's second attempt at launching a 4G network. Back in 2008, the carrier took a gamble on WiMAX technology. But obviously, that didn't quite work out...

DisplayMate CEO on why Apple’s TV set will have a Retina display

Just because the rumor mill is focused on the next iPhone and iPad Mini right now, doesn't mean it's forgotten about the Apple television. The consensus still seems to be that the Cupertino company is working on a TV set.

The latest bit of speculation on the topic comes from DisplayMate's Raymond Soneira. The CEO says that he believes that the rumored Apple television will feature a display with its popular Retina technology...

More claimed next-gen iPhone fronts with centered FaceTime camera

It's been an unusually eventful Sunday evening here at iDB. Earlier, The New York Times ran a report on the rumored "iPad Mini," and now a new photo of purported next-gen iPhone components has surfaced.

The image you see above is a pair of iPhone fronts, supposedly from Apple's next smartphone. And like the front panels we saw back in May, they depict a relocated FaceTime camera and an elongated display...

Rumor: next-gen iPhone in production with all-new design

Craving more information regarding the sixth-generation iPhone? Don't worry, we've got you covered. A new report is out today, claiming that the highly-anticipated handset has just gone into production.

This would make sense considering all of the next-gen iPhone cases and engineering samples we've seen over the past week. But this report claims the device looks different than previously thought...

Apple is inspiring other brands to change their retail experience

There was a graphic that started circulating the internet several months back, demonstrating how Apple has affected the smartphone industry. It showed what handsets looked like before and after the original iPhone was released. And the differences were tremendous.

There was a similar image that showed how Apple has impacted the tablet market. Before the iPad, tablets were 2-3-inches thick, had styluses, and ran desktop operating systems. And then after it, they all became thin, multi-touch tablets running mobile software.

Now it looks like it's time for someone to make another graphic showing how Apple has affected retail stores...

First day Nexus 7 sales prove there’s a demand for smaller tablets

Proponents of the idea that Apple won't make an "iPad Mini" due to the lack of demand for smaller tablets, may want to rethink their position. Several major retailers are reporting lightning fast sellouts of Nexus 7 stock.

For those who came in late, the Nexus 7 is Google's recently-unveiled 7-inch slate. And between its high-end components and $199 price tag, some folks believe that it could pose a serious threat to Apple's tablet marketshare...

Crazy rumor suggests Apple will announce new iPhone on August 7th

Last year, Apple changed the refresh cycle of its most popular product, the iPhone. Instead of introducing a new model in the summer, like it had done in previous years, it waited all the way until October to unveil the 4S.

The consensus of the tech world, along with common sense, says that we can expect a similar schedule this time around. But a new report is out today, claiming that Apple will reveal its next smartphone on August 7th...
