Will Apple call the next gen iPhone the 4G? Most have been calling the unannounced device the iPhone 5, but recent reports speculate that Apple could end up calling it the 4s (like the 3GS).

AT&T has changed its 4G nomenclature to include devices that previously weren't fast enough to be considered "4G." In AT&T's latest series of marketing campaigns, they have started to call slower devices "4G." The devices that are referenced by AT&T posses the same speeds as what is expected from the next iPhone.

My Tethering Experience With MyWi on AT&T

I recently got a text message from AT&T letting me know that I was "enjoying" free tethering with my iPhone, and that I would need to change my habits or be forced to upgrade to an official tethering plan. For all intents and purposes, I will refer to this as the "text of death."

This text of death from AT&T didn't surprise me. We reported awhile ago that AT&T was beginning to crack down on tethering that wasn't sanctioned through their official tethering plan.

What surprised me was that I thought I'd been careful, meaning, I thought I'd played it safe with how much I'd been tethering. After calling AT&T, I discovered some interesting information that might help those of you in a similar position.

AT&T Rep: Apple Says No New iPhone in June or July

An AT&T customer care representative has claimed that Apple has informed the carrier that there will be no new iPhone in June or July of this year. Although general consensus has been that Apple will postpone the next generation iPhone until later this year, there has still been hope that a summer announcement at WWDC would be made.

According to an AT&T rep, Apple will definitely not be releasing a new iPhone this summer.

Twitter has acquired the popular Tweetdeck platform for a rumored buyout of $40-$50 million. This move is surprising considered that Tweetdeck very recently updated its iPhone app with a whole new design and set of features.

Tweetdeck has been a staple, cross-platform Twitter client for years. Twitter's buyout seems to be a reaction to UberMedia's original proposal to buy Tweetdeck.

One Third of iPhones in China Are Jailbroken

The iPhone is selling very well in China. In fact, China is Apple's fastest growing market for the iPhone.

According to a recent survey by UMeng, a Chinese statistic firm, 34.6% (roughly one third) of the iPhones in China are jailbroken. The iPhone accounts for 8.3% of China’s 850 million mobile customers.

ipswDownloader Now Called openIPSW, the Ultimate Download Tool for iOS Firmware

Remember when you told about the iOS firmware downloader called ipswDownloader? The lightweight download utility was originally only available on Mac OS X, and then it was ported into a Windows program.

The Windows version of ipswDownloader has received a significant update and is now called "openIPSW." If you missed it before, openIPSW allows you to download any version of iOS with ease. The new update now shows you jailbreak information relating to each iOS version.

Apple Will Fix Location Bug in iOS 4.3.3, Coming in the Next Two Weeks

Apple will be pushing an update to iOS in the next couple weeks that reportedly addresses the location tracking "bug" that has stormed the media. The iPhone's location database retained too much tracking info, and Apple plans on fixing that issue in iOS 4.3.3.

A few minor bugs will be addressed, but iOS 4.3.3 looks like it will mainly focus on the iPhone's location database.
