Fountain, Jellypod AI, Amie, and other apps to check out this weekend

There are only a few things certain in life: death, taxes, and an Apps of the Week roundup on the weekend! This week we have some great selections for you, including a podcast player with a social twist, an AI app that will read your emails to you, and a new calendar/task manager. And as always, we’ve selected a fun new game for you to check out.

Fountain: Podcast Player

You either have to be really confident in your developer/UI/UX skills, or have a groundbreaking killer feature, to try and release a new app into a crowded category like podcast players. Fountain seems to be hoping for the latter. Its built-in social features are what set it apart from the other podcast apps, with the goal to bring you closer to your favorite creators, and fellow fans. You can cut, edit and share funny or interesting audio clips, comment on other people’s clips, follow like-minded users and discover new podcasts. They are obviously aiming super high here, but it’s still early. Let’s see how it all shakes out.

Jellypod AI: Text to Speech

Speaking of podcasts, here is an app that will turn your email newsletters into a personal podcast using the power of AI. That’s it, that’s all it does. Next. No, but seriously. This is a very simple, basic app, designed to do just one thing. All you have to do is create an email source, then Jellypod will create a unique email address for you, and then you can use the new address to subscribe to any email newsletter. The app will create a daily podcast summarizing all your emails, in one of 6 realistic AI voices. The app includes in-app email viewing, and a nice-looking dark mode. Hey forget newsletters, can this thing just summarize my Monday morning meeting notes every week? It has to be the longest, most boring email I get.

Amie – Calendar and todos

Ok, if anyone from the Amie team is reading this—please redo your website. The full-page video idea probably looked great on paper, but IRL it’s a terrible experience. That being said, I still decided to cover the app because it shows a ton of promise. I mean, just look at these beautiful screenshots. The interface is sharp, there are some really neat, innovative features, and it integrates with a bunch of apps like Spotify, Notion, and Apple Health. Now just a heads up, the app is still fairly new so it is missing some things like Reminders integration, and support for calendars outside of Google. But the good news is, the developers say they are on it.

Boori’s Spooky Tales: Idle RPG

Finding new games for this column each week is always an interesting experience, because AAA titles don’t just fall from the sky every week. Essentially, I try to find games that are at least one of: good-looking, well-reviewed, well-known, super fun, or unique/interesting. Boori’s Spooky Tales might hit on two of these traits. It’s an Idle RPG, and as you can see, it looks pretty and…well, you can just the rest for yourself. You essentially play as Boori, an exorcist who had his body taken away by a ghost, who then winds up in the body of a crow. You must seek revenge on these ghosts, and find a way to become human again. I mean, if that doesn’t pique your interest, I don’t know what will.
