Nuprizm, Detail, Timestripe, and other apps to check out this weekend

Guess what time it is? The weekend! And that means it’s time for another edition of our Apps of the Week roundup. This week we have some great picks for you including a news app that strives for accuracy, an app for recording video podcasts, and a productivity booster. And as always, we’ve selected a fun game for you to check out.

Nuprizm

What a name, huh? Nuprizm. Multi-syllable titles with z’s in them are never a good idea, but oddly enough, the app itself is. It’s a social news platform that empowers users to rate articles by importance, headline quality, and accuracy. The point here is to fight back against clickbait and misleading titles, and that’s obviously a commendable goal in today’s climate. Time will tell if it really works the way developers hope it will, but if you’ve been itching for a different way to digest news…Nuprizm…may be worth checking out.

Detail: Video Camera & Editor

From the outside, Detail looks like another video editing app that is packed with far too many features, and for the most part it is. But if you’re willing to dig a bit, there is one really interesting feature in here that makes the app worth checking out: when you open up Detail on two iPhones or iPads within range of each other, you essentially get a multi-camera setup. Video and audio is automatically synced between the two devices for simultaneous recording, and of course editing and exporting is a breeze. You also get virtual backgrounds, in-app teleprompter, PiP, and split screen. Oh the possibilities.

Timestripe: goal manager

I probably should’ve made this the second app, and Detail the third app, because it’s hard to follow a multi-camera recording studio with “hey, let’s get super focused on our goals.” But we must push forward. Timestripe is a unique productivity/planner app that gives you flexible time frames including daily, weekly,  monthly, yearly and lifetime goals. The idea here is that you can set tasks for the day, todo lists for the week, and also keep track of your long-term goals, all in one app. That sounds pretty ambitious, but if you are in the market for a different kind of productivity app, this one might be worth checking out.

Tingus Goose

I’ll be honest, the name got me. Tingus Goose. That’s just fun to say. Tin-gus Goose. Also I dig the Shel Silverstein-esque art. Anyway, the game itself is actually pretty bizarre: your goal is to grow goose trees. Seriously—once these special geese find human hosts, they grow into these wacky goose trees. You water them, feed them, upgrade and interact with them, and eventually you’ll have your own human-geese ecosystem. Ok as I am typing this out I am realizing how ridiculous this all sounds, but you know what, it’s late Friday night and I am too tired to start this over, so the pick stands. Have fun with your human-goose-geese-trees.
