Apple Arcade arrivals in September 2022

The official @AppleArcade Twitter account announced five new titles coming to the Apple Arcade game-subscription service in September 2022. Some of the titles are remixes of existing App Store games but without ads, purchases and tracking.

You can play the above games and 200+ other titles for free with an Apple Arcade subscription. All in all, this is one of the best months for Apple Arcade in terms of titles that are worth being excited for. What a September!

1. Hanx101 Trivia

Hanx101 Trivia, created by developer Blueline Studios is a trivia game about Tom Hanks (you read that right) and other topics. Narrated by the actor himself, the game will keep you busy with tens of thousands of questions about various subjects, ranging from history and math to food, geography and beyond.

There are several gameplay modes to try, including head-to-head competition, team mode and Hanx101 mode which challenges you to answer 101 questions.

Hanx101 Trivia can be enjoyed on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV.

2. Horizon Chase 2

This arcade racing game by Aquarius Game Studio is a successor to the original Horizon Chase with many new features and updated graphics and sound.

One of the surprising new features is the addition of online multiplayer, which is available in every gameplay mode. There’s plenty of new content as well, from a bunch of special events to an all-new vehicle customization system and more.

This throwback racer with ’90s game mechanics will hit Windows PCs and consoles in 2023. Horizon Chase 2 is available across iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV.

3. Garden Tails: Match and Grow

Garden Tails: Match and Grow from Dots creator Playdots is another matching game billed as “the most relaxing puzzle game out there.”

Completing match-3 puzzles will unlock new flowers, plants and animals which will help grow your own garden. If you’re smart in terms of matching, you can also create power-ups that will restore and boost your garden.

Garden Tails: Match and Grow is available on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV.

4. Shovel Knight Dig

Co-developed by Yacht Club Games and Nitrome, Shovel Knight Dig is a new platform game in the Shovel Knight series with an all-new presentation and story.

Available across the iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV, the game tasks you with jumping, slashing and digging your way down through piles of dirt with all-new game mechanics. Handcrafted levels have been stitched together using an algorithm that the developers claim promises infinite replayability.

The game features high-color pixel graphics, fluid animations, and visual effects such as scaling, rotation and parallax. Shovel Knight Dig isn’t an Apple Arcade exclusive—the game is also available on the Nintendo Switch and Steam.

5. GRIS+

GRIS+ is a re-release of the narrative platform puzzler from Nomada Studio and Devolver Digital for Apple Arcade.

This is more of an interactive story than your typical arcade game. There’s no text in GRIS+, no spoken dialogue and no complicated controls. Developers describe the game as a serene, evocative experience that’s free of danger, frustration or death.

GRIS+ will keep you glued to the screen with beautiful art, animation and original score. This isn’t saying that there’s nothing to do in GRIS+. Quite the contrary, light puzzles will keep you focused and platforming sequences will test your reflexes.

GRIS+ is available on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV.

How to view a list of upcoming Apple Arcade games

Apple reserves the right to remove tiles from Apple Arcade based on metrics like engagement. The Cupertino company recently removed 15 games from Apple Arcade as its first contracts with developers have come to an end. Apple said before that all pulled Arcade titles are available to play for two more weeks.

To see a list of upcoming Apple Arcade titles, hit the “Arcade” tab in the App Store and scroll all the way down, then choose “See All Games.” On the “All Games” screen, filter the list by release date and toggle on the switch labeled “Coming Soon.”

How to get Apple Arcade for free

Apple Arcade gives you access to a growing library of more than 200 titles across your iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV. All games are free of ads and in-app purchases. Apple Arcade costs $5/month after a free trial.

You get three free months of Apple Arcade with a new iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV purchase. For more information, visit apple.com/apple-arcade.

Apple Arcade is not a game-streaming service. Every title must download and execute locally on your device. Many Apple Arcade titles support game controllers. iOS 16’s expanded controller support lets you play games with Nintendo’s Joy-Con and Switch Pro, in addition to Sony and Microsoft gamepads and “Made for iOS” (MFi) controllers like before.
