Backbone now has a PlayStation-themed controller for the iPhone

The iPhone supports controllers for playing a range of games, both from Apple Arcade and the App Store. Which also means it supports controller attachment accessories, too, like the one Backbone makes. And now, for fans of Sony’s PlayStation brand, there’s a brand new option.

This is the brand new Backbone One – PlayStation Edition. Unlike the standard Backbone controller accessory, this one is white. According to Backbone, the company worked closely with the folks at PlayStation to design this new Backbone One controller attachment, and it’s inspired by the PlayStation 5’s DualSense wireless controller.

Interestingly, Backbone says you can actually directly connect Sony’s PULSE 3D headset to the Backbone One – PlayStation Edition, which means you can have even better sound when playing your games on your iPhone.

Unsurprisingly, this collaboration between the companies is also meant to help promote not just the physical controller attachment, but also a service. In this case, it’s the PS Remote Play feature that PlayStation offers to let gamers play their games while on the go:

Backbone One is the gaming essential for PlayStation® on iPhone. If you have access to broadband internet, plug an iPhone into the Backbone One and instantly start playing your PS4™ or PS5™ games with the power of the PS Remote Play app—whether that’s out and about or even elsewhere in the home*.  With the latest update for PS Remote Play, the controller locks your iPhone in landscape orientation for better viewing.

The official announcement today does confirm that the Backbone One – PlayStation Edition isn’t designed specifically just for playing PlayStation games via PS Remote Play, of course, but that it works with other services, too. But, there is the Backbone app that offers a “customized” PlayStation experience:

Inside the app, you’ll see various PlayStation® integrations, such as custom glyphs representing the iconic PlayStation® shapes and the ability to browse hundreds of PlayStation® titles.

The Backbone One – PlayStation Edition is available now from Backbone’s website. It costs $99.99. Are you going to pick one up?
